Breakfast Topic: Idiosyncrasies

I know what you're thinking. I was a troll passing over a bow. Well, I didn't care for (what was then) +5 weapon skill. I liked guns. Even now that Bow Specialization grants 1% crit, I still prefer guns. That was just the way I want to play and I'd usually pass on all ranged weapon loot unless it's a firearm. This Troll Hunter of mine also has white hair and as a rule, only tames white pets. My stable includes the white bat Ressan the Needler, the white cat Sian-Rotam, and the white spider Leech Widow. The day Blizzard makes Aluntir, the white Silithid wasp, a tameable exotic pet is the day I spec Beast Mastery.
I like min/maxing as much as the next guy, really. But there are just certain idiosyncrasies with the way I play, such as my Shaman who pursued Goblin Engineering for the Pet Bombling. He's all about Engineering, so when Wrath comes he's likely to be on his motorcycle when on land and on his flying machine when in the Outlands or Northrend. Oh, he's got white hair, too, just like my Hunter and Paladin. It's just one of those things. I'm sure you also have little quirks on your characters or the way you play. What are your WoW idiosyncrasies?

My Nelf hunter drinks GALLONS of Darkmoon Special Reserve. Usually between 40 & 70 during a 4 hour raid, & just as much doing dailies/questing. Since I'm on a RP server, I get random /w from people asking me if I'm RPing an alcoholic.
I don't RP, it's just something to do. No real reason.

Those are Silithid, currently unclassified and therefore not tameable. =(

I'm leveling my Dranaei mage (bad idea in PvP coz they are big for a squishy) from 1-70 in a tux. You gotta have some style when leveling alts eh? That said in the early days the tux helped with some epic spellthread, plus when I'm done I can reuse it for other alts.
Anyway he is at 64 and still crushing face in ice spec. Stat bonuses, who needs em....

I hate 2H weapons. I know the 2H axes are the best thing since sliced bread for my hunter, but I just can't do it. 2 1h weapons, preferrably fast ones, is the only way to go.
(No. I don't melee, often. But when I do, that axe just feels... Inelegant.)

All of my Horde characters use the right-hand path when entering Undercity (left-hand when leaving). I have NEVER used the other side of the entrances.

If the race can have purple hair and a mohawk, that's the only hair I will use for it. In fact, I tend to gravitate towards that color in general, but only in WoW. I use variations of my name with the prefix 'Not' for all of my toons. If the variation of the name I want to use is unavailable, I'll make the toon with a Greek or Roman name. The toons without the 'Not' prefix usually go unplayed.
I always choose the warrior class for my main toon. I did in Guild Wars and did the same when I graduated up to WoW. I guess something about wearing plate and hitting like a truck appeals to me (especially with the amazing new prot buffs!).
I have yet to level a caster class past 35, despite the fact that I really want to have a max level priest or druid.

My tauren shaman doesn't use healthstones. It helps that he can turn his mana into health and gets a better return from using a mana potion.
My troll hunter has used a crab pet since level 10, even in BGs. Now that crabs have Pin, it turns out to be more than an oddity. :)

I have a lot of idiosyncrasies. First, on my main, a NE Hunter, I refuse to use anything besides bows. I've passed on both guns and crossbows that are incredible upgrades in the past, because I did not feel they fit his character. On my rogue alt, I refuse to use any weapon besides a dagger. I've picked up swords before, but they just sit in his bank. My mage was arcane all the way, even before the new patch that made it an actually good lvling spec. He could not stand that elemental crap, instead he preferred to have the raw power of magic flowing through his veins. Even though I'm not on a RP server I feel that these idiosyncracies add to my game play, but I've given up a few before for the sake of improving my gear :( Such as my hunter used to only dual-wield... I finally gave that up when Terokk's Quill became available. Also, I used to only use a Wolf that I trained at lvl 17 until about 3 months ago when I picked up arenas and got myself a cat.

Funny, because guns make absolutely ANNOYING sounds.
Musket blasts, over and over. I had to turn my sound off in raids because shooting a musket every 0.5 seconds was driving me insane, and then eventually some people in the raid.
The creak sound of the bow is awesome. But then again, I'm in Archery IRL so maybe I'm biased. :P

If only we Kendokas were so lucky.
There's a few Katana-like models out there and every time my paladin blocks with it's edge it physically hurts me. Also it is fairly painful to watch him use a sword in general as a blunt weapon "whack", and to notice that he never thrusts with straight sword. If blizzard modded the graphics depending on the type of equipped weapons I'd cry tears of sweet sweet joy.
Anyhow, my quirks are that all my (male) characters are bald and has a moustache, even when i got a "Shave and a Haircut" I stayed true to my baldness. I also try to dress fashionably when in the city and I loathe using two-handed weapons even if they'd have better stats.

My favorite color is blue, so everything about my Shadow Priest that *can* be blue (or blueish), is. Hair? Blue. Skin? Blue. Nightsabers? Both blueish. Talbuk? Cobalt. Swift Gryphon? Blue (damn you, regular Gryphon... had to take the white one instead). Netherdrake? Cobalt.
I have a few other quirks, but they're aren't as evident. I'm sure I'll love Northrend for all it's frost-blue tones. :D
Cheers.

For my NElf druid, I got a haircut to get the achievement, and it took me 5 minutes tops to be back in that chair and change her back to exactly the way she was. Also, on my hunter, I need to name my pets something that is completely opposite to what they are/look like. My black wolf is named Snowflake, my Kurken was named Giggles, and my Devilsaur was named Cuddles. Can't help it.

My rogue only uses shanks I mean daggers. Tried swords but wasn't cut out for them. Also only uses helms that will completely cover the head. Show helm is always on.
My rogue is secretly a ninja...shhh.
Jason Oct 27th 2008 9:48AM
I always put the same character in every game I play as my main. Not only that, but he always uses a sword that has been in his family for generations, so I not only always use a one-handed sword on him, but it always has to have a certain look to it so I can at least pretend that it is still the same sword.
Trilynne Oct 27th 2008 9:51AM
I hate, hate, HATE warlocks. Not the people who play them, but the class itself, and not because they're good at killing other people in PvP. No, I hate how EVIL their spells are. I don't want to be cursing and corrupting my way through the game, or commanding demons to torment my enemies. I also hate rogues for some of the same reasons: sneaking around and stabbing people in the back? That's just plain mean!
So, instead, I bash people over the head with glowing hammers on my paladin. :D
On the bows vs guns side of things, I like bows and crossbows much better than guns, so that's what my Draenei hunter uses. I don't like the banging of the gun at all. xD
Ashuntrah Oct 27th 2008 9:52AM
I have three shamans on the same server, same faction, same guild. One is my main, a level 70; the others (level 12 and level 6), I rolled up more recently, after trying pretty much all the other classes at least up to level 10. Some of them worked for me; most didn't.
What can I say? Shamaning gets me almost everything I need, and what it doesn't my protadin and my thunder chicken do :).
Asswipe Johnson Oct 27th 2008 10:08AM
I like all of my toons to have shaved heads. I'm just not a fan of hair. It's for this reason that I've never rolled a tauren or an elf (night or blood), since they have no bald option. Although, the new mohawk haircut for night elves is close enough that I might consider rolling in Darnassus for the first time ever.
Andrew Saunders Oct 27th 2008 10:09AM
All my toons have Viper in their name
Viperajs - pally
Vipermagi - mage
SolidViper - rogue
ViperBanker - duh
ViperSting - hunter
TrouserViper - druid
Milktub Oct 27th 2008 10:08AM
My rogue will never use anything other than daggers, and I have a hard time respecting non-dagger using rogues. Sorry, but there's nothing "stealthy" or "secretive" about walking around with two 4-foot lengths of sharpened steel.
I don't talk when I'm on my warlock. Ever.
My warrior leveled Prot.
I refer to Soul Wells as toilets.
I don't engage in trade with Blood Elves.
