The plague is gone, zombies dropping like flies
Just as Tigole said, the plague has indeed gone away. The crates are still there, but you can't contract the plague anymore. The zombies haven't been wiped out yet, but they'll eventually just wear themselves down, they can't spread the infection. No ceremony, no big events or explosions, the plague just stopped being effective. A little disappointing, really. However, there is a rumor, a rumor, that at 4 PM PST there will be stuff goin' down in Azeroth. Supposedly it will be 'epic.' What is it? I don't know. It's entirely a rumor, but man do we love us some rumors. You do too, don't you? I thought so! Well, if anything actually does happen, we'll be right here to let you know!
Edit: Well, a whole lot of nothin' happened. Rumors are a fickle mistress! A few readers have reported that the necopoli outside of major cities are hovering lower in the sky, but it's difficult to tell. That's all we've seen or heard so far.

Funny, because yesterday I killed a player Zombie and she bitched at me because I was "spoiling" her fun of feeding upon the living.
Everyone just likes to bitch.
Bring back WWZ, Blizz. This time with faster Zombies. :)
InnaJungleStylee Oct 27th 2008 4:08PM
Same thing happened to me -- I killed a zombie trying to sneak into SMC and was treated to lots of angry whispers and being called an elitist jerk because I chose to participate in the world event...in a way that he didn't like.
Then I remembered why we don't have cross faction communication, and I smiled.
Emma Marie Oct 27th 2008 3:54PM
Well, I'm a little sad that it's over as it was fun to help defend the low level areas from the ever increasing zombie hordes. It made me feel a little heroic getting all the whispers from grateful people who could get back to questing. On the other hand, seeing all the quest areas being overrun made me glad I was already at the level cap.

Actually, most of the WoW-census utilities/sites agree that about 1/3 of WoW's population is level 70, and that the remaining population is fairly evenly distributed through the rest of the levels (about 1% per level). That means that over 1/2 the population is 55+. The population is definately top heavy.

@Cyanea
Completely agree.
And I know I'll be rated down for the comment too. But those are just the morons we're dealing with. I'm sorry, but just because someone has a different opinion than yours doesn't mean they're whiners.
Prophetik Oct 27th 2008 3:55PM
Yeah "Praise the Motherfucking Light, it's over." is most definitely an insightful, well thought-out post that won't warrant any reaction.
SaintStryfe Oct 27th 2008 3:56PM
Prediction time:
The Scourge Plague is being overtaken by a Forsaken Plague. But the Forsaken Plague might just be worse.
Ryan Oct 27th 2008 4:02PM
That doesn't happen till Wrath (Read the Wrath's Gate section on Wowwiki for spoilers).
airwalke Oct 27th 2008 4:02PM
Wow... pot meet kettle?

I was kind of surprised the EU realms also had their plague removed. I wasn't aware this event was on the same schedule.
4 PST would equal midnight on the EU realms, and indeed that is when we saw our realms change in previous days.
So, perhaps it's just me, but this makes it clearer that event changes tend to happen at noon PST and midnight CET.
deviationer Oct 27th 2008 4:04PM
I highly doubt they would have a major event before prime-time play. Considering bliz works entirely on PST time, they would need to wait till 5 or 6 pm PST.
computermachina Oct 27th 2008 4:10PM
I was very amused by the event and to be honest I only got infected twice, one because I was afk. So i wasnt one of thse running around griefing people and taking out npc's. Got my daily heroics done everytime and for bg people seemed to not reach the battlemasters in stormwind on my realm so I just went there. If you reaaaally need everything then Darnassus and Exodar were quiet as tombs.
Cyanea Oct 27th 2008 4:10PM
Are you people like...really THAT insecure?
I enjoyed the event. I had fun as a zombie rushing Stormwind, and I had fun as a character trying to exterminate zombies. I think it was a creative attempt to inject a little life into WoW. I didn't mind missing out on the AH for a few days. I did mind it when a bunch of level 70s made a conscious effort to camp Northshire Abbey when a friend and I were trying to level during the last of our recruit-a-friend days, but it was a minor inconvenience all told, as we got to 13 in about two hours. It was a FUN event.
But it was just getting a little old. If the game had CHANGED during the four days? Sure! Keep the invasion going! Watch as the zombies slowly take over inch after inch of Stormwind! Watch as surviving NPCs and players barricade themselves into Stormwind Keep and the Cathedral. Watch as a high-fantasy version of Dawn of the Dead unfolds. But all that happened was a constant pitched battle in the Trade District.
I'm sorry that I don't play my game to your standards. Tell you what...you start paying my 15$ a month, and I'll play the game exactly how you want me to.
Jangalian Oct 27th 2008 4:42PM
Oh thanks Bliz for waiting to do an epic event AFTER I get off of work. XD
I really enjoyed the zombie event. So many people bitched about it but, come on, you can get back to questing and grinding and arenas after this short world event. You can enjoy it for the scourge infestation it is, and quit with the QQ'ing. For me, the last time I actually had this much fun was in beta. Not BC, not WOTLK, but beta. Yeah, that one.
shockna Oct 27th 2008 4:13PM
Glad that I'll be able to use the AH again, but I'll miss the plague. But what's this Cathedral event? Is it linked to the quest in which you hand a relic to your faction leader? Varian had nothing else for me after I turned it in...
Yeng Oct 27th 2008 4:15PM
Shocktroopers will attack the SW Cathedral at apparently random times, when you fight them back there is a crystal that you can get a quest from.
BrianD Oct 27th 2008 4:18PM
It's not that some of you have opinions about the zombie plague that differ from the majority, that's fine, it's a big game and room for all. It's that some of you feel that any post about the event, be it new content, news updates, changes, scope, whatever, has to accompanied by your QQ post about how Blizzard owes you because you didn't like it.
We got it two hundred posts ago, fine you can't handle change, we get it. Your discomfort, however is unimportant to most of us, and your whining is annoying. Perhaps that is why you are getting modded down? Just a thought...
MechChef Oct 27th 2008 4:23PM
Less whining about the zombies. Less whining about the whiners.
Tesharn Oct 27th 2008 4:21PM
I for one really enjoied the zombie event, be it helping people in Ogrimmar defend the city from the zombies or eating my brains when i finally got tagged... then back again to defending the city.
I would only ever attack people who attacked me and when defending would put zombies out of their misery then rez the people and heal them up.
Last night was brilliant, landed in Org from Tanaris barely escaped some zombies at the landing area and managed to flee across the bridge towards thralls throne room where i found the single AD healer and a load of people holed up trying to stay uninfected from the lurching hordes. We ended up taking taking out a never ending horde of zombies coming from the drag before deciding to see if we could help a bunch of other people who were holed up at the hunter trainer area.
We picked up a couple of people along the way and managed to kill our way through to the other group where we all joined up for a full scale attack to retake the auction house... we rounded the corner from the drag. The number of zombies was horrific they were everywhere, we did our best but gradually got pulled down one by one. it was fantastic!
I realize that it must be annoying for some people, especially low levels who are trying to run quests and maybe they should have made it so that you couldn't use flightmasters or teleports while you were infected to make it more difficult to infect towns. Or as other people suggested an innoculation against it so you dont have to participate.. or both!
But it was only a few days and im pleased to see that for everyone one person that hated it there were at least 10 that happily joined in... here is hoping for more great events like this!
Kia Oct 27th 2008 4:26PM
@ Cyanea
Tell me about it. I got rated down immensely the other day just for commenting that Blizzard should gear some of the event towards lowbies and not just endgame content.
It's pathetic the amount of people that jump on you for the slightest negative comment.
