Breakfast Topic: Uh, now what?

What happened there, exactly? Just when everything was ramping up to a fine crescendo -- with the disease duration shaved down to an apocalyptic one minute and infected rats streaming out of our city sewers -- it suddenly dies out without warning or climax. No big battle. No quests to fight zombies. No conclusive finding of a cure (Grand Apothecary Putress' quest line wasn't quite anywhere near epic...). It just... ended. There were rumors of something going down at 4pm server time, but that hour came and went without so much as a bang and a clatter.
What happens now? What do you guys think is in store for Azeroth? Certainly the Lich King won't let things end in such an anti-climactic fashion, right? Arthas, the baddest of all bad guys, must have something else up his cold, icy sleeve, right? What's going to happen next? Armies of Scourge attacking cities, perhaps, or some other impressive, crazy thing. I mean, certainly things won't be status quo all the way until November 13. Or can it?

Dooooooom.
I dunno. It seems likely.
Geflurg Oct 28th 2008 8:17AM
Yes... A good dose of doom to make things just right...
conker87 Oct 28th 2008 8:37AM
LOVE endorses doom, (leagueofvillains.co.uk).
With the topic, I'm not sure what would come next, I sure hope we don't have a large outdoor boss killing newbies in SW like last time. I would like to see an Undead invasion (not zombies) that attack Capitals, etc, every one in a while.

For everyone that remembers, there is still that quest text from the dude in Howling Fjord talking about Orgrimmar being razed (demolished). There will still be some kind of attack by the Lich King, but I'm uncertain what it will be now...

Well from what was previously stated in Insider Stormwind and Ogrimaar is the setting for a final BOOYA!
That being said tho I got a sick in the gut feeling they actually ended it a day or two early due to the whiners. I mean by time my guildmates got back from work the plague was over and they never even got to do the quest that helped end it.
I think Blizzard screwed their own game over due to whiners no matter what they 'officially' say.
gridwerk Oct 28th 2008 3:00PM
@asshats like realmreaver and stag:
I guess theres only two types of people playing this game: griefers and whiners.
Of course, well over 7 out of ten people I talked to hated the zombie thing and from what I read that number held out pretty true to the actual number of people who hated the event on US servers.
But dont let Blizzards decision to appeal to the greater number of players (you know, the people that PAY to play this game) make to QQ too much- you can still transfer to a PVP server so you can use your 70 to grief the shit out of single-digit leveled toons to make you feel all manly.
What did you think Blizz was gonna do? Most everyone hated this event except the people that are assholes to begin with and then even those idiots went emo as soon as they were unable to make other peoples time completely miserable. EVERYONE was complaining!
AH earnings went through the floor, Im POSITIVE that anyone that was trying the game for the first time during that 5-day period was like: "fuck this noise!" and if you tried to open a ticket for anything you had to wait days. My buddy cancelled his account- true story. This was the last straw for him on what he had been saying was a fading MMO already.
Truth? If LK isnt fan-fuckin'-tastic I'll drop my subscription too, not that anyone here cares.

Like it or not, we're playing a role-playing game. You have a role to play. WarCraft, like so many other RPGs, is dependent upon its story. The zombie invasion is the next step in the storyline for World of WarCraft, a way for the developers to say "Hey, the world you're playing in is changing."
Couldn't get your dailies done? Your business transactions in capital cities and at auction houses fall apart?
Good. That's precisely what should happen. A zombie apocalypse is swiftly coming to Azeroth, and players want to know why they can't find the bankers. They want a World Event that they don't have to participate in or feel the ramifications of.
It's the World of WarCraft, not the World of Power-Leveling to Create a Sense of Accomplishment that I Lack in Real Life.
With 11 million subscribers, I feel that the claim of "7 out of 10" opposed to the event is both unfounded and idiotic. For argument's sake, I was in the 3 out of 10 who really enjoyed it (and I got my dailies done every day without a hassle). I made the best of it. If I was a Druid, I went about my business. If I was a zombie, however, I was going to make all living things around me suffer.

In regards to the what gridwerk and bazore said, specifically, and on this hole f'ken zombie abortion. Thats right it was a f'ken abortion not "the finest event wow has seen to date"...
RP wise I admit it COULD of been sweet. I say could of been cause you would need a bunch of responsible, respectfull individuals (not a bunch of moronic children like unfortunately a chunk of the World of Warcraft players are) to take these tools that blizz provided us with over these past few days and have alot of fun with it.
I have no fricken clue what this was supposed to be like, for one i think it was a great idea, horribly planned out. Lets see... 'take a group of children and give them some fire crackers and say..here skippy go ahead and play in the street with these' yeah..i dunno about you but that sounds wonderfull. No instead what should of been done is there should of been some limitations (1 turn per hour maybe?) or more safezones or something..i dunno, frankly i dont give a f im glad to see it over. But so i dont come off like im saying i didnt think it could of been great, it could of...could of.
What happened is you had zombies camping the entrances to cities and killing any low level who tried to enter... you had horde who love fucken with ally playing their ally toons just to go zombie and have a reason to slay all the Auctioneers, bankers and questgivers cause they think thats funny... you had players intentionally trying to get infected in the worse possible places or better yet rushing to northshire from sw so they can... once again... all together now.. yeah jack noobs or low level alts.
SURE SOUNDS LIKE SOME GREAT ZOMBIE ROLE playing huh?! FUCK the zombie event. It killed roleplaying on my server, didnt help itg. If siding with the masses for once..all the peole who couldnt stand this cluster fuck makes me a whiner then im a whiner.
Personally the only time i saw the value of this is when there was a massive battle in Westfall on my server, mainly rp pallys and a large number of infected that tried to sweep from Duskwood to the shore like the hand of the lich king. After it was done, no one got on a griff to SW and went to fuck with people cause they got owned, they just all had a great time and celebrated the victory for the living.
Like i said... could of.
I totally agree with gridwerk who basically described my weekend and attitude perfectly. Im a ROLEPLAYER Bazore, I dunno what your definition of roleplaying is but when Zombies act like a bunch of teenage tools just trying to harass people... thats not putting me in the mood to do my part to submerge players in the game that pisses me the hell off.
Role players would role play a zombie and slay indescriminantly, not camp, not hide, not dance in the fucken middle of town like a bunch of asses, so spare me the "people want a world even that they dont have to participate in bullshit." Im all for role playing, not this shit. This was just a lazy little event to hype the new expansion. Plain and simple... and its gone cause blizz was DONE with it, not cause we all hated it. So dont come off like anyone who complained wasnt ready to try and roleplay.. i was... and i did.
This was little more than a glorified way for people who hate how rp friendly this game is and how restrictive pvp is and give them a liscence to aggrivate. Perhaps on other servers this was not the case... your the lucky ones, but on my two it was the case. Though It sounds like everyone hated this thing. Well i guess we are all wrong huh?
Honestly anyone who thinks this has accomplished what it was supposed to or could of, might as well drop wow and pick up warhammer, i hear it embraces the macho chest banging mentality.
Nick S Oct 29th 2008 1:51AM
I hate getting first comments now because all the people with ugly things to say reply to it. :-(
Idea: let's all take a big step back and remember that games are more fun when we don't treat them like life-or-death situations.
Kinka Oct 29th 2008 2:09PM
I think we see phase two whenever those Alliance NPCs in Shattrath shoot the Lightwell Weapons of Mass Destruc errrr....excuse me; strike at the Necropolises floating foully over our capital cities with the Vengeance of the Artifacts of the Light, we'll see something pop out of them.
WatcherZero Oct 28th 2008 8:13AM
It did build up to a conclusion and that conclusion was at the darkest hour putress spawned with a cure to the plague. Now the story is likely to follow the alliance direction of having a way of focusing beams of holy light to shoot down necropoli. If you talk to either of the shattrah npcs they will tell you the horde took on the responsability of finding a cure and the alliance the responsibility of dealing with the necropoli.
Nightshadeuk Oct 28th 2008 8:14AM
After the amazingly fun chaos that was the last few days I logged on this morning to find the towns back to their original stature. As dull as usual to be honest. I'm sure there must be something coming. Because Putress is still milling about. The elite mobs are still occasionally appearing to try and ransack Undercity. I noticed WoWInsider didn't pick up on that? you get a quest after killing them to speak to a guy in UC courtyard. But then, most of the editors appear to play alliance so it was no surprise it went un-noticed
If that was the end to it.. It was definitely a lack-lustre ending. I'm pretty sure with two weeks still in front of us we will be seeing at least a little something extra.
Caine Oct 28th 2008 8:19AM
I've seen them attacking stormwind also, I think it's just random where they go for
rosencratz Oct 28th 2008 9:04AM
The shocktroopers your talking about do also attack stormwind and they do it quite regularly, it's all part of the invasion event not the Zombie one.
Khanmora Oct 28th 2008 10:07AM
And I think you need to check out the "About the Bloggers" posts. It's quite clear that there's a pretty good mix of alliance and horde on staff.
Stag Oct 28th 2008 8:12AM
What happens next? Dunno. But i'm pretty sure, no matter what the official Blizz line is, that the zombie/plague was cut short due to incessant crying about it.
Seems like they're very quick to react to peoples tears these days. It sucks, because the people who don't like something are always going to be the most outspoken.
Lysdexia Oct 28th 2008 8:33AM
I'm pretty sure tigole (or whoever was working on the event) made it clear that the end of the event was NOT due to incessant crying, it was planned to end on Monday and that another event will take place fairly soon*
The necropolis invasion is still underway though
*totally a rumor
Stag Oct 28th 2008 5:40PM
I know what was said. But of course they'd say that. Why would they admit to giving in to incessant tears?
I think the blue post saying it was to end in a 2-3 hours (or something like that) which was in response to QQ post on the general forums adds to my suspicions.
rosencratz Oct 28th 2008 9:01AM
Nah it didn't end because of whining, it's hardly a coincidence that this event occured and peaked precisely during the course of a weekend and doesn't interrupt at all with a maintenance night.
Clearly this 6 day event went precisely as planned.
D.O.T. Oct 28th 2008 9:34AM
It’s amazing the animosity people have against players who were griefed constantly through this event. Even considering that it was pointed out by a developer, Tigole no less, that it was ending as scheduled and that the event wasn't over by a long shot.
I'd expect some down time between the next bit if only to allow the players some time to recover.
