Official class forums to be replaced with role forums [UPDATED x2]
Want to hear something frightening? There will be no more class forums. Nethaera announced it a bit earlier on the official forums, and I'm still not sure what to think. They're breaking down the class forums and replacing them with role forums: Tanking, Healing, and Damage Dealing. For those players that have been afraid they're homogenizing classes a little too much, this really isn't helping.Personally, I think this is a horrible move. The official class forums were bad enough, and now they've thrust all of the classes together. Have you seen those really cruel, gross videos where they put two scary looking bugs together in a glass cage and let them kill each other, and they'll do it every single time just because it's in their nature to defend themselves? This is the WoW forum equivalent of it. This is going to be a disaster. The walls are going to be painted with blood.
On the other hand, this might turn out to be a good thing in that you're going to see a lot more community-made class forums such as ShadowPriest.com and Maintankadin cropping up. Places like that are generally far more useful in my experience, but come on. Does removing the class forums really sound like a good idea? It's just spreading the venom around instead of trying to find an antivenom. I could understand this if they added these three forums in addition to the class forums, but in place of them? Yeesh.
We're really interested in what all of you think about this as well, so we've made a handy dandy poll. Do you think they should have kept the role forums? Do you like the switch to role forums? Do you think they should have both?
EDIT: Blizzard poster Tyren later said they're not adverse to keeping the class forums, and may do so all depending on the feedback they receive. So we'll see what actually ends up happening, but I have a feeling class forums aren't going anywhere.
EDIT 2: Blizzard has taken only a few hours to decide to they will be keeping the class forums as well as the role forums. Crisis averted. Put down you dot shockers and step away slowly.

They probably did this so classes will get exposure to each others' concerns. It'll suck at first, but after a while they'll probably all decide Blizzard is the common enemy anyway.
This probably makes sense for, say, the Mythical Druid-Beast that only ever does DPS and is never ever asked to heal, ever.

i am that beast =)

They need to have both if they change anything. I want to go to the forums and discuss various abilities, talents, and gear for different paladin specs, but I don't give a fig about what rogues need. I'd have to sort through way too much crap to get anything interesting to me.

What we really need is better filtering out of keyloggers.

Oh my God! They faded Kenny!

Having class forums is bad enough becuase you always have the trolls coming in and QQing a class. Most help requests or game discussions are met with insults producing no helpful results already.
Sticking all DPS classes into a room will be as fun as the last few days of the zombie invasion

At this point I'm not even sure i'll buy WotLK ...
Jbz Oct 30th 2008 2:36PM
lol.

You'll come back. They always come back.

A forum change would affect your decision to buy Wrath?
The only forum change that could affect my decision would be if they forced me to read that cesspool.

Then why do we care about your attention-whoring comment, exactly? Oh that's right...

Stupid idea, maybe if they broke it down by class and then spec (and a general class area) it would be a better idea. This way the forums become even more clustered.
Blizz leave the forums as is - this new format will not work well

I agree with this. Consolodating is the wrong move, the class forums are cluttered as is. I think they need to +1 (to include DKs) and then triple the number of forums so we have a separate forum (30 in all) for each class/spec combo.

Wow. Class flexibility is good, but if I'm a shaman and want to talk specifically about Elemental damage rotation, why do I need to walk into a forum full of every other DPSer? Likewise, discussing Shaman healing is going to be different than a Priest or Paladin doing it.
This change just seems like it will be hard to find good, specific information. (Not that there's a whole lot on the official forums in the first place, I suppose...)
Manatank Oct 30th 2008 2:40PM
So tag your post with "Elemental Shaman:"
cuso26 Oct 30th 2008 2:48PM
Manatank, that would only apply if the Search function in the official forums actually fully worked... which it doesn't... and hasn't. Ever.
xenothaulus Oct 30th 2008 3:54PM
@manatank: Yes, that will work...
RandomRogue has posted: HAHA MOAR LIKE SHAWOMAN AMIRITE?

EleShaman: Guys, can we keep this on-topic please?
SPriestforlyf: I topicced ur mom lol1
themann1086 Oct 30th 2008 4:34PM
@ xenothaulus
So what I'm gathering from your example is that we won't see any change to the forums?
Ghostlobster Oct 30th 2008 4:54PM
xenothaulus the idea is that eventually rogues will figure out that doing that kind of things doesnt help.
Because it doesnt.
Eventually they should learn to live together.
Right now A QQs about B constantly, maybe by living together they will learn not to bother eachother.

It will increase the hate but decrease the whining.
especially DPS forum will be a massive whine/hatefest since every class can DPS.
