Breakfast Topic: Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween, everybody! The World Event happening today IRL is the basis of our favorite game's Hallow's End festivities. This is the day when we are officially allowed to knock on strangers' doors and hope their Innkeeper will give us some treats. This is also when we can dress up as, well... anything, really, and not have anybody look at us funny. This is actually a great opportunity to do a little bit of cosplay even if you're not really into that kind of thing. I mean, why not dress up as your favorite WoW character? In fact, some people thought that was such a great idea they decided to make Warcraft costumes for everybody.
What do you have planned for this Halloween? Will you be dressing up as a Warlock in Tier 5? Or maybe an Orc with the Arcanite Ripper? If you do plan on dressing up as somebody -- or something -- from Warcraft, don't forget to send in your pictures! While some of you might still have some last minute Hallow's End Achievements to pursue, I hope you get it early today so you can go out for what usually is a fun-filled night in many places. This is one of the few times that I'd actually recommend not playing the game for a little while. I mean, RL tricky treats and flimsy masks have got to be on everyone's agenda, right? Ending the day not plastered on Dos Ogris might be an Achievement for some, while I certainly hope nobody gets Out With It outside the game today. Whatever you have planned for Halloween, we at WoW Insider hope you have a blast!

My imagination sucks, I think I'm just going as a WOW player.

FYI, it is not "world event IRL"
It is strickly USA holiday, that very few people in other countries have picked up.
Tho it origins are in many different european old native holidays from close time of year.
sephirah Oct 31st 2008 8:21AM
Sadly, in the last years, it has spread in Europe too, mostly as a capitalist holiday.
Corrytrevor Oct 31st 2008 8:35AM
LOL.
WoW some US citizens (if that's what you are) think they are the only ones on the planet.
Halloween is celebrated in "North America" as well as in many other countries.
Proud Canadian.

Amen to that Corrytrevor, another proud Hoser here stuck down in the land of insanity. And last I checked, while rampant capitalism and crazy jerks hurting kids have spoiled some of the fun of Halloween in Canada, the rabid religious fanatics haven't destroyed it like they have in some parts of the US.

Funny, we celebrate it over here in the Philippines, too.
Miksu Oct 31st 2008 11:53AM
Oh i just love when people think everything comes from the states :D
FYI it was brought to states by Irish and Scottish immigrants...
Knyle Oct 31st 2008 8:32AM
Im just going to go to a bar and look at women wearing next to nothing.
Maybe ill grab some scrubs and poor ketchup on them. probably not though.
Knyle Oct 31st 2008 8:33AM
Isn't Halloween an Irish tradition?
Silkath Oct 31st 2008 10:05AM
Yup, it's Celtic in origin so Irish/Scottish/Cornish really. Though the name actually comes from the Catholic Church's attempt to turn the pagan celebrations into a Christian one...
Kudrania Oct 31st 2008 8:51AM
You are close Knyle. The Celtics celebrated Samhain on October 31st. I don't have time to go into it, as I am at work. History.com has some awesome articles about the histories of Halloween.
:)

damn! I better run home tell the kids we dont celebrate halloween in the Scotland. Sad night for them tonight now.
Dragonspear Oct 31st 2008 9:57AM
Well its more than that. Its celebrated in many different places just not always with the same name. Day of the Dead in Mexico is similar to Halloween.
Another fun note is that it takes place on the Eve of All Saints Day for all you Catholics out there, and usually the day before we HAVE to go to mass, we tend to throw a party and have fun. Don't believe me, check out Mardi Gras :D

Halloween is the greatest holiday of the year for the simple fact it's the only day a grown man can give candy to a teenage girl dressed like a hooker, and not get arrested.
Zep Oct 31st 2008 10:06AM
O_O is there something you'd like to tell us kermit?
Ted Oct 31st 2008 12:12PM
Dressing as a bear tank using my Blizzcon Costume in Las Vegas. Hope I get a free drink or two.
Evi Oct 31st 2008 2:09PM
Sadly, I don't have anything planned for my favorite holiday. My b/f is on call, so the minute we leave the house he's guaranteed to get a call. Thus, we'll be staying home and watching scary movies. I have a bottle of Maker's Mark to ease the pain of staying in, too. ;)
