Reminder: Now's the time to get your necrotic runes
No matter what you call those big floating pyramids above Azeroth, right now is the right time to chase them down and kill the Scourge hanging around beneath them. If you don't have epic gloves or shoulders on right now, odds are that you could use the upgrades from the Argent Dawn, and while the necropoli were completely camped early on in the event, things have died down a bit now, especially in the off-prime hours. I was able to pick up my 30 runes earlier this week, and when I got lucky on a leggings drop (I love that my Hunter is in a mail kilt-y thing now), I picked up two nice new epics, a cool tabard and an achievement. We don't know exactly when this stuff is all ending -- it might be soon, or it might run right up to the Wrath release, but either way, now is probably the time to play it safe and pick up your runes. Look on your map for the purple skulls when they spawn and make a beeline for the zone when you see them, keep an eye around the zone as you fly in where the necro might be, and with most people already having nabbed all the runes they need, the pickings are probably about as good as they're going to get. You'll have a tougher time nabbing the rare spawns that drop the legs and the chest, but if you just want to nab some runes for the various Argent Dawn rewards, it'll go fast.
Now if I could just get people to stop camping my fish pools until I get Mr. Pinchy...

This event wound up being the most anti-climactic rubbish I've ever experienced. From chaotic bliss to slumberland in a matter of hours.
It's a fucking shame.
TyKell Oct 31st 2008 6:44PM
While I wouldn't be as harsh as you I have to say I agree with you. The plague event was really brilliant. It's just a pity there wasn't an appropriately amazing finish to an amazing world event.
It instead, died out with a whimper.
quas Nov 1st 2008 5:44AM
Er, you do realise there world event is still going don't you? If the spoilers I've read so far are true, its going to be pretty nuts - most climactic i would say.

Runes were actually pretty easy for me to get even during the first couple days. I just logged out my character right where a necroplis spawns, and logged into an alt on the same server. Then when the necropolis was back up, I logged in, and went crazy on them.

Same here - and as I did at non peak servers (4AM - gotta love that time difference!) I've got my self a full blessed leather set. Now I just have to try and figure out which bits, if any, are upgrades for my druid. Since the patch I'm a bit clueless s to what I should be equipping!

I enjoyed it for the most part and decided to pursue the gear to have a haste set. Things have died down indeed! Two days ago, I went to Azshara and found all 4 summoners up, 3 rare elites and the other usual mobs mixed in with them. I got my pants from the 3rd elite, but I killed 11 of the elite shadow / summoners that day and not a single chest piece dropped (of any flavor)... Bugged?
I rounded out the day hitting exalted with the Argent Dawn and haven't gone back - gotta love being the only person running around with an AD trinket for scourgestones.
Now i'm getting all these letters in the mail saying I should visit some of the scourge's survivors... but Joanna White(something) in the war quarter of UC just wants to sell me some crap... She doesn't want to talk about the scroll I got in the mail. WTF?!
peagle Oct 31st 2008 6:52PM
The people in the letters will now sell you Friendship Bread and Freshly Squeezed Lemonade.
To paraphrase wowhead:
Blizzard removed the related dialogue from NPCs for some reason. However, one of the NPCs Elissa speaks to mages, as they have two actions availble ( mage training, and the quest foods). What she says is:
Ah, you're the one who found the letter.
Thank you for the... news, I suppose, about my family.
You're welcome to what food and drink I can offer.
Marc Oct 31st 2008 6:59PM
Exactly my reaction when I found that I couldn't talk to them but they wanted to sell me low level food. First I thought it was bugged, especially since I still had the letter. Now I realise it's 'working as intended'. FAIL
Also I grabbed 130 runes on the second day at Tanaris during off hours grinding with a prot pally (I was a resto druid healing and AoEing the mobs while he held aggro). Grabbed 1 piece on the first day, another on the second day and bought the other 2 to complete the set.
Jeremy Oct 31st 2008 7:16PM
It is not exactly working as intended; it is an unexpected side effect of the change Blizzard made a way back to how dialogue works. It used to be that everyone talked to you, and you then had to click again to buy something, instead of going directly into the barter menu as it does now. For the most part, this wasn't a big loss, as no one really had much to say, but it is apparent Blizzard did not go through and retest this portion of the Scourge Invasion event.
sephirah Oct 31st 2008 7:41PM
Somebody reported here that asked a GM about the missing dialogues... it seems that he responded "something will happen, but you have been too fast"
WTF? Too fast? Blizzard, you send me letters telling me "go to see this NPC" and I am too fast to do it?
I assume it's a bug and the letter shouldn't have been sent till the invasion is over...

This is a way for enchanters to make big money. I went to Burning Steppes when an invasion started there yesterday and spent two hours running from camp to camp, just killing rares. Disenchanting the gear and then doing void shatters, I pulled over 40 large prismatic shards an hour. 6 camps in that zone and only one or two other people there but they stuck to one camp usually.
Amaxe Oct 31st 2008 7:01PM
It's also a good way for new 70s to get epic gear, and some fairly decent trinkets if they are new to this. While not as good as T4, I would have been happy to get this earlier on in my career as a 70
Eternauta Oct 31st 2008 6:49PM
I have just collected the entire plate set (shoulders, gloves, pants and chest) and the tabard.
I'm happy. My pally looks awesome.
Lucid Oct 31st 2008 6:51PM
Get a group of roughly 5 people, have everyone need roll each rune, and stop rolling at 150, and you're set to buy everything you might want, and a little extra for summoners or pots or whathaveyou. I was pleasantly suprised when I went to do this in in a short amount of time, less then an hour, i had ~225 runes and realized i had too many.
The best suggestion however is to simply do it on the offhours. If you happen to play on the minority faction (horde) on a server during peak hours, its highly likely you'll break the crystal, summon the elites, and have a raiding party of the other faction mow you down and steal your bosses.
Omega Oct 31st 2008 6:58PM
If you overstock runes and you are enchanter. Just purchase all those epic shoulder or gloves from AD NPC and DE them into Void Crystals and make a fortune in AH.
Caiya Nov 4th 2008 5:17PM
Thanks! I hadn't thought of that (/smacks head), and I've got almost 200 of them sitting in the bank.
To the auctionhouse!

If it's like the last Scourge invasion, it will end on your realm when your realm has won 250 battles. My server should reach that tonight. So, we'll see. Ask the Argent Dawn emissary how many battles your realm has won so far.
Don't forget that usually more than one necropolis spawns at the same time in the same zone. Last night in EPL, there were three necropoleis (not necropoli, btw*), each one with several battle sites under it.
*I thought you guys at WoW Insider figured this out already: http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/10/29/the-plural-of-necropolis/.
realmreaver Nov 1st 2008 8:18AM
Well I imagine there is still gonna be a big hoopla with Stormwind and Ogrimaar from the sound files ripped and talked about earlier in wow insider. Surely there is gonna be a big whoop de doo before the Necropoleis leave that should last a few days so everyone has a chance to experience it.
I personnelly hope they instance it so we can have some simblance of chaos back and not bother the whiners again. I mean I am on a 'carebear' server but that just ticked me off. Playing with a bunch of Hell Kitty wannabes.
