Ask a Beta Tester: Icecrown, quest rewards, and scary monsters

Good news! No corny jokes today! Just pure, delicious Ask a Beta Tester. Let's start with Actuality's question...
When I first ran around TBC, the Fel Reaver scared the hell outta me. Ground shaking, crazily running everywhichwhere to get away. And the Draenei spiders still creep me out. But by and large the monsters now have a "ho hum" quality because I'm too used to them. My question is, are there any monsters in LK that will scare me or creep me out for at least a while?
There are most certainly a bunch of those. There's a lot of "whoa, cool" mobs and "holy crap what the hell is that" mobs. My favorite is the geist (pictured above), and it sounds like a lot of our other readers adore that one as well. It has a very maniacal laugh when you aggro it. The Revenants are cool as hell, except for the Earth revenants which look like floating poo. I don't mean they look bad, I mean they actually look like poo. Also: Thrym in Zul'Drak. I won't tell you what he is or what he looks like, but you'll know him when you see him. Just remember the name Thrym. There's plenty of other cool/freaky models in Wrath, too many to name, so yes. There are monsters that will scare you and/or creep you out.
Sorano asked...
Is there still reputation gains and factions involved with raids? Does Naxxramas, the first raid, have a faction(s) attached to it?
When I ran Naxxramas earlier in the beta, I wasn't gaining any reputation at all. I don't think it's tied to anyone, but maybe that's something that changed very recently. Unfortunately, I don't have a raid in my pocket that I can pull out and go check, so that's all we have to work with.
If there was a reputation attached to it, I'm not really sure what it would be. Valiance Expedition/Warsong Offensive would be silly, because you can get to at least halfway through Revered with them purely through questing in my experience. The Argent Crusade is also very, very quest heavy.
So Naxxramas didn't initially give rep, and I don't imagine that has changed any.
Strongshield asked...
What are the airships for?
The zone of Icecrown is so packed full of Scourge that the Horde and the Alliance haven't managed to grab a foothold. The Alliance tried and very nearly succeeded, but there were... issues. Dealing with one enemy? No problem. Dealing with two? A problem. I won't tell you what went down, though.
Instead of a ground base, the Horde and the Alliance each have an airship that flies circles over the zone.
The only factions that have been able to grab land in Icecrown are the Argent Crusade and the Knights of the Ebon Blade. The Crusade has gone in guns blazing, rocking out, smashing Scourge en masse, while the Ebon Blade has used shadier methods. Subverting Scourge leadership, assassinating key targets, yadda yadda. It's a very cool dynamic.
Tony asked...
I know you covered which starting zones have the most lore for different races. But my question is which classes should go to what zone for the reputation rewards. I have a Lock, pally, and warrior and some factions may have better things for each of these. What zone should each class go to for rep rewards?
It doesn't matter a whole lot, actually. Both zones have a really good spread of quest rewards, and I haven't noticed any items like the Hellfire Peninsula blues that last you until level 68 for some unholy reason. Where you quest in the beginning won't make or break you, and both zones have something for everyone. Just go to whichever zone you think you'd like better, or where your friends are going, or whatever.

The Geister (or Geists, if you want to anglicise it) are definitely the best mob of the expansion. Unique boss models not counted.

The "Myeeeh-haw-haw!" aggro noise is lovely.
There's also a questgiver for the KotEB in Icecrown called The Leaper. He's initially unable to say anything other than "Mrrrrfrrrrmmmmrrrfrfrrrrrr!" and various adaptations of that.

About reputation in Dungeons...
With the Championing System you can choose what kind of reputation gain during raids or istances at lev80.
Wearing the tabard of a faction (Tabard are avaiable at Friendly), you gain reputation with that faction in any dungeon that is level 80 in normal mode or in any heroic dungeon.
And 10 man and 25 man are dungeons, 10 is normal and 25 is heroic.
Actually only 4 reputation are avaible with Championig: Argent Crusade, Kirin tor, Knights of the Ebon Blade and Wyrmrest Accord.

are there any outdoor raid encounters in wrath? im looking for a new kazzak or green dragons. a real 25 man thing
Spoonman Nov 1st 2008 1:39PM
Since you get no rep from Naxx, is it possible to wear those tabards that give rep for a certain faction and then get rep for that specific faction whilst in Naxx?

Now I'm quite sure that the name 'Thrym' is lifted directly from the Norse mythology. The leader of giants of some sort, wasn't he?
Heilig Nov 1st 2008 11:59PM
Yeah, he's a big giant dude.
His model IS pretty cool. It was even cooler two years ago when it was Thaddius. He's nothing new, he's just not green anymore.

I am not 100% sure this would fit as a "beta" question, but here goes ...
I play a 70 Holy Paladin and a 70 BM Hunter, while my partner plays a 70 Destro Warlock and a (soon to be) 70 TG Warrior (we will not be respeccing, so Ret/Demo or the like isn't an option)... What are the 2 "best" 2-man combinations for us to use while levelling in Wrath? By best I mean efficiency and synergy, as well as ease of not being forced to split up in 5 mans.
Sorano Nov 1st 2008 3:38PM
I think they are loads of possible combinations. A lot of classes synergize well with each other.
If you're partner rolls a warrior, you should play with him as Holy. A warrior, while vastly good, becomes quite superior when healed. I'm guessing that with the buffs and aura your paladin provides, with the healing, you can make a quite effective combo.
Plus, if he decides to carry a shield at all times, you get a minor tank while you heal.
Tenchan Nov 1st 2008 5:33PM
The Paladin with the Warlock, the Hunter with the Warrior.
The Paladin. who even as Holy is still a good AoE tank when leveling up, can offer the Warlock the luxury to DoT and burn a bunch of mobs without having to fear sudden aggro. (On the side, the Holy damage will also make up for possible resists of Shadow damage against the undead.)
The Warrior, on the other hand, is better against few or single targets, and so is a Hunter's DPS, and with the very high damage that both dish out and the probably quite strong pet, the Warrior will need little healing ever.
Zuldim Nov 1st 2008 2:32PM
I don't know about anyone else, but Mo'arg still creep me out.
The oozing liquids... The stitched together flesh.. The screams of horror and possibly of pain...
*shudders*

This may have a hint of a spoiler so read at your discretion.
Is there any mention of any Lordaeron specific Alliance forces in Northrend? During a certain ingame cinematic there can be certain alliance soldiers calling "For Lordaeron!" in a similar way one would say "For the Alliance!". This may be better suited for a Ask a Lore Nerd article but I assume that I could ask for any ingame information first >.>
havitech Nov 1st 2008 6:36PM
I'm betting it's just the human soldier's battle cry against the Scourge, seeing as how it was their doing that brought on the fall of Lordaeron.
Bulle Nov 1st 2008 7:28PM
Yes, like someone would scream "For my dog, Poochie!" if the scourge had killed their dog Poochie.
havitech Nov 1st 2008 8:33PM
I've seen it plenty of times in movies: "And this is for [friend who was killed]! *pimp smack*"
Chris Nov 1st 2008 2:38PM
I really enjoy the Epic quest in Nagrand to bring Thrall to meet his grandmother. Is there anything like that in Wrath where you have to complete all the quests in one zone before you get an epic quest to complete?
Suzaku Nov 2nd 2008 6:21PM
Yes. Work hard questing in the Dragonblight and you will be rewarded.
There may be more in later games, as well, but I've only gotten as far as Dragonblight in the beta, after which I decided to leave the rest for live.
Laz Nov 1st 2008 3:00PM
Is there a Northrend equivalent to Consortium monthly gems consisting of Northrend gems? Or are we stuck with free Outland gems only?
BiggusGeekus Nov 1st 2008 3:26PM
(I asked this on the last installment, but probably too late for you to get to, so I'm asking again)
What is WotLK's equivalent of Arakkoa Feathers, Sanguine Hibiscus, Firewing Signet Rings, etc.? What are the dropped items in WotLK that are turned in for reputation, yet are still sellable on the auction house?
igotthecool Nov 1st 2008 3:53PM
Im not exactly positive, but i think i read somewhere that blizz was trying to move away from turn in rep gains, and stick to quests. again, im not positive, but just trying to help out.
