It's a new month, and those lovable little swindlers we call the Consortium are offering up free gems once again. Of course, they don't give away their best stuff to just anyone.
The better your reputation, the higher the chance you have of being granted a blue quality gem, although nothing is a guarantee, even at exalted.
Head out to Aeris Landing in South Western Nagrand and try your luck. You're guaranteed to come away with something, and you might get more than you'd hoped!

That statement about a better chance to get blues is both true and misleading, you do get a better chance but not directly, you only have a better chance because you get more gems for the higher level bags so each gem has the same chance of being a blue gem you just have more chances.

No, it is linked to your rep level. Compare the number of gems received at each tier to the respective chance of getting a blue from the Wowhead drop tables. You have more chances, plus a higher percentage per-gem to get a blue.

My theory is that at honored the gems you get are equivalent to if you had prospected fel iron 3 times - with exalted equivalent to 3 fel iron and 2 adamantite prospects.

I'm Exalted and I got 3 blue gems and 3 greens gems. Lucky me!
Well, I was revered last month and only got 3 greens, so this month definately made up for it!

great article for lowbies and beginning 70s but once you hit the latter part of the game those gems are suck : \
