Breakfast Topic: To quest, or not to quest?

Personally, I've been trekking all over Outland attempting to complete every last straggler quest while the rewards are still worth bonus gold. Once the expansion hits, these quests will reward experience again, and therefore, less moolah.
In fact, if you look at your rewards in your quest log, you'll notice the numbers have already been reduced in anticipation, although you are still given the full amount upon hand-in.
It occurs to me though that I might be shooting myself in the foot. How stable and playable do you think Northrend and the new Death Knight starting zone will be right off the bat? Some people are planning on spending the first few days leveling past 70 in Outland just to avoid the crowds, lag and frustration.
Are you hurrying to finish quests before the expansion, or are you planning to lay low in Outland for the first few days of post-expansion bustle?

Actualy I'm running around outland compliting quests but not turning them in yet. Then when wrath launches I will have about 250k exp to go and get.

If they follow the same rules they did with TBC, you'll be wasting your time. The quests will only reward gold not XP if you've picked them up pre-wrath install.

I'm running around Isle to get me some gold before it turns into exp. I am also pondering if I should finish up some quests in Outland or even try for a Kara PUG
*yay first*

i basically stopped questing and am levelling an alt

I am doing a pally now. Hope to have him in outland after the rush of DKs
Todd Nov 3rd 2008 11:14AM
Same. I just got a pally and shaman both to 60. I've bought both of them some outland green spellpower gear and I expect to have both of them carried through the 60's by healing DK's through all the dungeons.

I quit questing the moment I hit 70. There's lots of ways to make money, and quests are the best way for a solo player to get XP.
tanek Nov 3rd 2008 8:13AM
Questing in Outland for as much xp as I can get in the first few days anyway. Unless there is a limited-time event in Northrend, in which case I'll battle the lag to see what I can of it.

I'm levelling an alt, currently at 30; My paladin is freshly levelled to 70 and I didn't touch Shadowmoon Valley, Netherstorm or BEM (aside from a quest or two). So if Northrend is unstable, I can and will level there - though I have a feeling I won't have my druid alt levelled up to 70 by the 13th, so I will likely still be focusing on levelling it.
Actuality Nov 3rd 2008 8:15AM
I plan on leveling in Outland, yes.
And I also plan on leveling my mage from 60 to 70. Hopefully by that time everyone will have moved on past the starting zones.

Running the quests now for more money makes no sense. The exp to gold conversion applies equally from WotLK to the rest of the game. We know that WotLK quests will be giving us a lot more gold and a lot of exp, but the conversion rate will remain the same.
If you're stocking up on gold in anticipation of the inevitable expansion inflation you're better off doing daily quests. The only reasons to do the "normal" quests is for fun and to work toward achievements. These are great reasons in and of themselves, but if you're doing it only for the cash return then you haven't really chosen an optimal strategy. This comes back to every WoW gamer's friend: opportunity cost.
Happy gaming!

Err actually you wont be able to get the gold until level 80 from these OL quests, and I dont know about you, but I will need the money whilst leveling.
Vorgaak Nov 4th 2008 4:25AM
being an economics grad student, I am constently surprised by how many people don't understand opportunity costs! Ideas like farming original mats (when they are cheap on the AH) or buying all the cloth off the AH to turn into bandages at 50s profit a pop(which can take a long time to do) can really be bad choices based on your opportunity costs.

Outside of a few dailies, I've been lvling an alt while I wait. I plan to lvl my main in Outlands for awhile, and attempt to do a DK.
Worcester Nov 3rd 2008 3:24PM
Good luck with that DK, especially if you're on Coilfang. I plan to spend the first few days in a raid... killing all the DKs we can find!
Until my copy arrives from Amazon. When that happens... wanna group?
:)

AHA! I knew something was fishy about the daily quest rewards saying they were worth a lower amount of gold than i was actually getting. Thanks for clearing that up!
Korlis Nov 6th 2008 2:18PM
I've got to wait until I can actually get a hold of Lich King before I can get to Northrend (US account + Not living in the US right now = Delays as it ships via a friend), so I'll probably be spending at least a little while in Outland. Right now I'm still trying to gather up gold so I can get my epic flying skill, so taking advantage of the quest situation, but I've not touched Shadowmoon Valley or Netherstorm yet so once I do get a hold of WotLK, I can go levelling there.
kolo Nov 3rd 2008 8:24AM
Yeah I'm questing like crazy atm, I made 800g on Saturday.
47 Quests in SMV and 23 in Netherstorm. Gonna be a busy weekend!
Zayd Nov 3rd 2008 8:24AM
Just pottering about really, no grand plan. I might try and get my shammy from 64 to 70, can respec to elemental since my healing gear isn't too shabby for that now and blast through the quests in Zang etc.
Guild like so many other is going through BT and the like whenever we can aswel, great to see the content at last.
