Breakfast Topic: To quest, or not to quest?

Personally, I've been trekking all over Outland attempting to complete every last straggler quest while the rewards are still worth bonus gold. Once the expansion hits, these quests will reward experience again, and therefore, less moolah.
In fact, if you look at your rewards in your quest log, you'll notice the numbers have already been reduced in anticipation, although you are still given the full amount upon hand-in.
It occurs to me though that I might be shooting myself in the foot. How stable and playable do you think Northrend and the new Death Knight starting zone will be right off the bat? Some people are planning on spending the first few days leveling past 70 in Outland just to avoid the crowds, lag and frustration.
Are you hurrying to finish quests before the expansion, or are you planning to lay low in Outland for the first few days of post-expansion bustle?

I'm rep grinding for now...I want to have the Netherdrake and Nether Ray mounts before the xpac....doesn't look good though. I'm easily distracted. :P

Jsut stopped playing few days ago. Both my warrior and hunter are already geared enough to start questing in Northerend. I would *HATE* to do new quests without replacing my "old" gear... I mean I will buy WOTLK to actually play it and have fun with new regions, stuff, quests and lore.
Being full-epic would ruin half of the fun, in my opinion... unless you plan to level as fast as you can to see end-game content of course (something I will not do, ever).

I agree that being full epic would ruin half the fun. One of the biggest thrills in HFP is when my purple staff is replaced by a green quest rewards. I wouldn't want to have to vendor (since I can't D/E) all my quest rewards.

@ Hendrata
Well... in WOTLK stuff will not replace epic stuff as easily as it was in TBC (where you could replace 90% of your gear within 20 minutes of questing in the first Outland region... argh!). That's why I do not like the idea if playing full-epic in Northerend: every quest would give me "useless" rewards :).

I'm heading straight for the new stuff. If I never go to shiny glowy pink Outland again, it'll be too soon.

I am finishing up Netherstorm right now and haven't touched SMV yet. I'm like 200g away from epic mount, so once I get my epic, I'll focus on dailies and BGs, and do SMV once wrath hits. Hopefully I can level to 71 or even 72 in SMV (with full rest).
Also this way I avoid most of Northrend and HFP lags. By the time I finish SMV, most people will have advanced past the starting zones of Northrend.

My plan when wrath hits? Go find the fishing trainer, buy the book or whatever and go plunk myself down next to a nice looking body of water.
When I get tired of fishing, I'll go work on alts. Not Death Knights, not leveling past 70, just nice and bland.
I don't want to deal with the crowds, I don't want to deal with the lag. I'll give it a few days, maybe a week for things to settle down.

Got a new alt to 70 and am trying to get her key'd for all the instances & kara as well as some half decent gear that I can bitch out having to replace. (yes and badges, lovely badges) Sadly I don't think there's time for me to get my netherdrake mount. /pout

Currently, I'm doing low level quests that I missed. I love me my achievements and rep :D
When Wrath hits, I'll be in Northrend braving the lag. I might get lucky as I'm American but I play on an Oceanic server. So while the Aussies and Kiwis sleep, I quest. Heck, even wandering around Northrend grinding Tuskarrs will be awesome.

Doing the Albino Drake achievement until the expansion. However, thanks to Amazon, I wont get my copy until the following monday, giving me plenty of time.

I ran around completing quests prior to BC launch to turn in after the cap was raised. The XP wasnt as good as I expected and frankly the time I spent flying around Azeroth turning them in probably would have been better spent in HFP grinding on mobs that gave HH rep.
This time, there's an Achievement (and meta achievement that gives a title) to be had, plus the bonus gold. So I've been working on that. This weekend I did about 75-80 quests between HFP, SMV, Terokkar and BEM and netted about 800G without breaking a sweat. A lil time consuming, but I hit the 1500 Quests Completed plateau while I was at it, and a night or two in Netherstorm should give me the Outland Loremaster achievement, another 600-700G and maybe even push me to Exalted with Consortium.

I plan on leveling with a group of people through all the new instances. I'll worry about quests on alt's in my downtime.
Warcloud Nov 3rd 2008 2:15PM
How could you bear to be in Outland when Northrend is up there waiting for you? No way I could resist, I've been waiting for this for months. I'll be in the new digs, lag and all.
Syme Nov 3rd 2008 4:20PM
In preparation for WotLK, I'm playing Fallout 3. :D
Codexx Nov 3rd 2008 10:15PM
Heading straight for Howling Fjord. The XP in Outlands is not worth it, Borean Tundra has not only become known as the least great zone in Northrend, but I've done most of the starter quests, which basically means leveling halfway through 70-71 will be quests I already know. That won't keep me going for long.
Ephrath Nov 3rd 2008 7:03PM
I could be considered an Alt-o-holic, I have 7 70's and am working on my 8th, all of them are over 350 with all of the professions covered, some twice.
I stopped questing on a 70 as soon as I had done any of the quests I specifically needed to do for raid starting gear.
As I don't have any urge to have the most gold on my server, I don't do dailies (boring), if the is no raid or group I feel like doing I just level another alt, once you start to level in outland your gold goes up fairly quickly anyway.
As far as questing is concerned, I will be continuing to quest on my newest 30 for a few days, then I will take my 70's to Northrend, complete the starting quests there for the gear it offers and return to Outland to complete as many of the quests there that I can solo.
This tactic is one I have had planned for over 9 months from the time I first heard about the next expansion coming, even before anything was confirmed.
JDM Nov 4th 2008 10:42AM
The first character I'm taking to 80 has only done the quests in Hellfire, and has the rest of Outlands available. I purposefully stopped doing quests, so that when WotLK arrives, I won't have to spend time in a crowded, laggy Northrend.
I figure I'll get quite a few levels from the quests I have left - and the bonus is that Northrend quests will be worth more per complete than Outland quests as far as gold goes. Why would you waste all of the experience Outland has to offer this close to WotLK? Seems odd to me!
Well, you people have fun fighting over quest mobs with the other few thousands of people doing the exact same quests as you, at the same time nonetheless. I'm going to quest around the abandoned higher zones of Outlands.
As for fighting for mobs from Death Knights? They should hit 68/70 by the end of Terokkar at the very latest. Thus, by the time the majority of them get that far along, I'll be long past those first zones, leaving me free to quest in peace.
