BigRedKitty: Mammoth
Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the Hunter class, sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.
If you've mastered the art of the Auction House, if you've cornered the subtleties of capitalism, if you've bribed your grandmother to use your toon all day while you're at school or work and made her farm until her fingers bled, perhaps you have the deep pockets one needs to buy the Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth.
Twenty thousand gold, foshizzle. Is it worth it? Watch the movie and decide for yourself.
You are invited to download the YouTube version (35MB) of this movie here, and the full-sized version (54MB) here.
As always, a great big Thank You to the WoW Insider editors for allowing us to publish this movie both here and on our little blog at the same time!

Damn you BRK, I was not gonna buy this ridiculously priced mount before your video. I was happy to not have to ever grind 20k gold for it and would have been blissfully ignorant of it's features for at least another 10 days. Now.....I have a 20k grind to look forward to. You've stolen my Wrath innocence yet again. First you made me wait for my Rhino (who is tantalizingly in this video) and now.....now this. You are a devil BRK. A DEVILLLLLLLL.....
C'mon....personal vendors, now I gotsta have it.
Radiophonic Nov 4th 2008 9:15AM
Since they're considered vehicles, can they be used in old world or only in Northrend?
mora Nov 4th 2008 10:04AM
did you you watch the video?
Radiophonic Nov 4th 2008 10:18AM
@mora:
Yeah, he's in Northrend lol
Radiophonic Nov 4th 2008 10:20AM
OK, I'm assuming that's Ironforge there at the end. Never rolled Alliance...my bad.
mora Nov 4th 2008 11:01AM
Yeah if you watched it he is also in Ironforge.

Damn work...I can't see the damn video from here. *sighhh
Me wants to see!!!
Nick S Nov 4th 2008 9:22AM
It's cool, but I'd want it more if it came with a repair guy and the repair money went to you...
Autumnn Nov 4th 2008 9:23AM
I have 200G to my name right now and you go and do this... /slap BRK

Right behind ya bud! It's fun to know we could buy one of these for all our toons as well as our new death knights. Muwahahahaha...
I can't wait to drop the Gs on this baby. Despite my anticipation, I just wish I could take better advantage of the vendors and the additional seating.
I'll never be running lowbies (toons less then lv 30, or lv 60 for that matter) around... which I feel is one of the most useful features of these multi-player mounts.
If I provide the ride (to my guildies), that means I can't be a lazy AFKer while getting from point A to point B.
While I can use the profession related items for sale, I don't need any of the class related items on my main. My alts could get a bit more use from the reagent vendor, but I don't foresee buying every toon one of these mounts... Gotta save up for that next gold sink around the corner as well as the ultimate goal of hitting the individual gold limit.
And while I do love the option of having a repair person and vendor with me at all times, I'm such a penny pincher that I'll still use a vendor from an exalted faction (when one is convenient).
And regarding repairs... It's going to be frustrating to become reliant upon this method only to find that it can't be used in every situation. I guess we'll still need those repair bots after all.
Lastly, I'm concerned about the food vendor. I guess it's good to have if you ever run out... But being so unprepared as to run out of something is just beyond me. Currently, the Naaru Rations from the Isle is the best food that can be purchased. I would love if the vendor scaled with your level and would eventually sell you the best food in the game at lv 80, but I know that would be asking a lot and prolly isn't the case. So again, while it's nifty, I don't see this feature getting a lot of use either.
Even with my rantings, I really am looking forward to getting this mount. It's freaking HUGE!! And not everyone will have one (or at least not right away).
Thanks to BRK for the video!

You have a vender who sells things, yes...but I assume he also buys things. In which case, you get to grind or farm or whatever for as long as you like without worrying about bag-space OR slowing down to not pick up greys (that add up to serious scratch over time) OR running out of reagents or ammo or food...This is a farmer's dream item, if they're willing to drop the money on it in the first place.
Throw in engineering's portable AH and Mailbox, and you never need to head to town again.
Fooliecoolie Nov 4th 2008 9:24AM
Well the chopper was working in Azeroth so I believe the mammoth does too. (Didn't see one in Azeroth though)
Calamus Nov 4th 2008 9:30AM
If I'm not mistaken when BRK has someone else on Mammoth he is in Ironforge, so appears to be all go for Azeroth
Dimiz0r Nov 4th 2008 9:35AM
If you pop out your Mammoth, will your party members be able to use the repair/vendor guy ?
Cyanea Nov 4th 2008 9:38AM
I'm guessing/hoping that other people can use the vendors too?
No more ten minute delays at the start of an instance because the Paladin has to run back to town to repair or the Hunter forgot to pick up ammo? No long waits for someone far off in the corner of Nowhere to get back to town to grab supplies before she/he can be summoned? Sweeeeet.
And I got excited that I just broke 1k gold for the first time across all my characters....T___T Way to ruin that, BRK. :P
