I consider that a bit harsh unless it's clearly stated in your guild rules.
I discourage overt political commentary in guild chat but I don't prohibit it. To me, it's the same as bashing any group you don't like whether it's sexual orientation, football team, ethnicity or hair color. The guild is to be a welcoming place for anyone to play. There are a million ways to state a dislike or disagreement of a topic which will bring about a consideration of what you're saying. But you only get one shot when you make a jerk of yourself.

It was becoming a problem with our passionate members so, our guild has made a "no religion or politics" rule for G chat and prefer not to see it in trade due to the guild name attached to the members name. It'll be over soon, so I can endure the trade chat for now. It definately is better than the anal spam on hyjal.
