If Blizzard is having such problems putting in a minor bug fix/balancing patch I am dreading the release of Wrath. You would think Blizz would be able to update the game in a reasonably quick and flawless manner. Here's hoping that Wrath won't bring the servers down for a week!

Since when is two hours extra maintenance "such problems"? Extended maintenance isn't frequent but it happens occasionally.

Maybe you didn't actually read my whole post. I could care less if they have to extend maintenance 3 hours for a tiny little patch, I have better things to do. However, my realm was so laggy and buggy the first week after 3.0.2 you couldn't play. My actual point was I hope that they can release Wotlk without a buttload of problems like they have been having the past few major and minor patches. I didn't realize the post police would come and arrest me for stating a fact. Again, sorry if I complained about your wonderful Blizzard, make sure you downrate all those other posts that are disappointed in the extended maintenance. /sigh

Well, firstly, you got 3 free days of playtime for the post-3.0.2 days. Second, they have reduced lag significantly (on most of our (EU) servers anyway), and third, I'm pretty sure that this patch will remove a lot of the statistic the achievement-interface saves. This will further reduce lag etc. These stats were a major part in the lag the first couple of days - Blizzard hadnt expected them to be so.. what's the word.. hadnt expected them to put so much load on the servers. They are better prepared now, and though i know it wont go off without a hitch, Im pretty sure it wont make the game unplayable for a week after release.
Kinda sure.

We we enter our realms... Is there going to be a new event related to Wrath's release? What do you think, guys?
Carolyn Nov 4th 2008 2:31PM
I hope so, that would make the extended maintenance worth it!
redland Nov 4th 2008 2:24PM
Well, as long as it's not as chaotic as when 3.0.2 went live. I don't mind waiting two extra hours, I just don't want to log on and the server crashes every three minutes...

must of wanted to fit in some extra nerfs for my beloved ret pally...bastards
Amaxe Nov 4th 2008 2:23PM
Patch was only 20MB. I hope the implementation is not difficult

Fear not for Wrath, for if anything happens it'll be nothing that some free days giveaway by Blizzard won't fix.
/sarcasm

They should have not announced compensation until after this patch.
mcdaddy Nov 4th 2008 2:27PM
This is unbelievable. Hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue EVERY month and they just can't seem to get Tuesday maintenance down to a science. I can not believe the ineptitude that we will endure to play the game. Dripping with FAIL.

Get a job, you smelly pirate hooker.
sterny Nov 4th 2008 2:32PM

Learn to use timezones?
Balius Nov 4th 2008 2:32PM
YEAH HOW DARE THEY NOT BE ABLE TO FLAWLESSLY AND SIMULTANEOUSLY RESET SERVERS AFTER A SHORT NOTICE MASSIVE COORDINATED DOWNLOAD INVOLVING 11MILLION CONSUMERS AND SEVERAL HUNDRED EMPLOYEES ON A CONTINENT SPANNING NETWORK! THEY'RE SO STUPID!!! I DEMAND MONEYS FOR MY TWO HOURS AND/OR QUIT WOW!!!
mcdaddy Nov 4th 2008 2:40PM
If you did you job once a week for 3-4 years, do you think you could accomplish it? One would hope so. If not I would take a little bit of the hundreds of millions of dollars PER MONTH and find someone that could.
Bobbo Nov 4th 2008 2:33PM
Seriously, do you complaining folks have nothing else to do with your life for an extra couple hours? The sun will come out tomorrow. Hell, it's even out today if you just go take a walk or something in the meantime. Yes, we pay a monthly fee, etc. etc., but, shockingly, a huge part of that monthly fee is paid to Blizz with the understanding that they maintain the game on both the gameplay and server side. Maintenance times allow this. Everyone's a winner.
Otce Nov 4th 2008 2:34PM
Crybabys. You're all acting like you deserve to have the servers up. I'm positive Blizzard wants the servers up a.s.a.p, but they need to make sure they are stable and playable. More server maintenance now, probably means less problems when Wotlk hits in two weeks. DEAL WITH IT.
Muse Nov 4th 2008 2:33PM
Ah well. Thankfully for being in Europe, they'll work these things out and our patch will be its usual painless(er) self.
And then we get to play guinea pigs with Wrath. It evens out.
