Paladins to receive some Blizzard love

Ghostcrawler also mentions that Divine Shield's attack speed penalty -- a remnant of the days when Paladins largely got majority of damage from auto-attacks -- will be revised to a reduction in total damage done. This means that Sacred Duty will likely be reworked to accommodate this change. One of the more interesting points that he brought up applies to all mana-based classes but is great news for Retribution Paladins who have paltry mana pools: Blizzard will be changing mana drain effects to take away a percentage of total mana instead of a flat number.
I don't want to get my hopes up, but Blizzard is considering Vengeance stack back up to five, to ensure that sustained damage remains competitive with other DPS classes. The best part of Ghostcrawler's recent posts for me was the possibility that Crusader Strike might receive a secondary effect. Since Crusader Strike lost its Judgement-refreshing feature in Echoes of Doom, it has been an underwhelming 41-point talent. Sure, it deals excellent damage and is still our bread and butter strike, but it's... boring. A weapon damage melee strike as a talent only shines because the class doesn't have any baseline melee strike abilities.
Ghostcrawler ends with a reminder that Blizzard has been paying more attention to Paladins and the Retribution tree than pretty much any other class or spec lately (which is true), indicating their intention to make Retribution competitively fearsome. Just not quite as fearsome as it turned out over the past weeks. He reminds us that "If we wanted Ret to be a joke, we would have just left the tree as it was, and maybe kicked it a little for good measure." Little nuggets like these is why I don't stop believing in Blizzard, even if we did get nerfed to the ground.

A lot of guesses here, and as far as I'm concerned, for Paladins it's too little too late :-s we're back to being loladins

'cept for arcane mages and a geared up warrior nothing tips the balance in a BG more then ret pallys, i'm barley in 2 pieces of merc gear and i own face in everything but those 2 above classes(and the occasional BM hunter but that's situational) as far as pve goes in my few ZA epic T'm #3 in dps...i don't see anyone loling at ret
Antanatar Nov 4th 2008 7:11AM
Some Holy paladin love please GC, Ret has been up and down quicker than a fiddlers elbow lately but dont forget to address the concerns of the other 2 trees.

Hallelujah.... preach it brotha.
Though I have enjoyed the few changes more than I thought, mana is a problem... especially since they're taking away my Mana Oils after level 70 :'(
BitterCupOJoe Nov 4th 2008 9:53AM
Yes, it would be nice if Holy could keep pace with the other healer specs when soloing. It's a little faster than it was in BC, but not significantly.

I currently have this spec in Live...and I have no issues with mana. The extra crit works wonders with your mana efficiency. In raids I can get over 40% BASE holy crit...translating into massive amounts of crits. Let the other paladins mess around with beacon and judge judgments, you're here for big numbers =)

blizzard is good with their promises....... only problem is, that it's never what you expect. So i'll hold hope for my ret brethren, I just don't expect them to pull their weight any time soon. sorry guys :(

Why is the patch not downloading when I start up WoW? Could it be that the patch isn't today? I was hoping to see the downloader this morning, but it's not there....
jay Nov 4th 2008 7:19AM

To The Ground Baby!
Jerk is never going to live that down, and rightly so.

I agree completely. i've got a list posted by my desk of "Things To Fume About Each Day". And GhostCrawler's comment is tops. The tale of his "to the ground" will be passed on from generation to generation.

good thing you put the tag there, cause it wasn't quite as thick as you thought
sharkeater75 Nov 4th 2008 7:33AM
as of 3.02 our holy pally as well as resto druid own ass at tank healing. epeen meters really don't mean much, sure you want some coh priests, a disc priest and some resto shammys doing their thing, but at the end of the day, and the boss fight, what you need is bread and butter.
those two classes deliver. and yes I play a holy priest. well within sunwell and bt content. I love them both and hope they aren't nerfed to the ground.
oh, and our ret pallys mana is beautiful, and him tossing on healing gear and helping out when times get tuff,... priceless.
don't hate classes. they'll get ya where you need to go.

Relax. I'm glad to see these announcements.
As for PVE I'm still pushing over 2k deeps and my gear isn't even as good as it could be (be mindful this is before our DOT and static dmg increase we are getting tomorrow, and be mindful that all of our nerfs except HoW have already been hotfixed in). I'm actually looking forward to the patch today. And I'm expecting to be doing MORE dmg.
As for PVP... I dunno. The burst is still there, but let me see how to put this. It is much more difficult to kill a target with a healer on it. You have to really coordinate your kill, and call out when your going to go for it. Just constantly mashing all of your CDs is not going to be enough, nor should it. I think SoC hits a little too weak especially if it DOESN'T crit. One thing I would like to see changed is taking HoW off of the GCD so when they do it 20% we can actually use it. I don't know how many times tonight I lost a HoW due to the target getting heals within the space of the GCD.
We are not lolidans so put away your lawlipops.

WTF? These changes suck. Nothing in there is gonna help, except maybe for the Forbearance duration being reduced. Wow. Percantages for mana drains. WTG blizz, another patch appealing to the casuals who don't have higher than average gear, which you already made incredibly easy to obtain, and penalizing those who actually have good gear. Mana percentages remove the purpose of getting any Intellect.
Pre pally-to-the-ground-nerfs, I stacked almost complete warrior gear in raids except for the tier pieces I had. My mana % would still stay at around the same as it was when I was raiding in my paladin gear with Int, using the same rotations.
And finally, watch the Crusader strike secondary effect be that you either do more damage to Undead with the strike, or that it applies the JoJ or a Daze effect.
Zach Nov 4th 2008 8:46AM
What? You're still pursuing Intellect gear as Ret? >_
Malkeior Nov 4th 2008 10:15AM
Considering INT is now equal to STR for DPS...
benicrystal Nov 4th 2008 4:56PM
But you guys don't get it. With less total mana, thanks to mana %, I was able to remain in the same mana % range as before with the same rotation. It makes intellect gear pointless, practically, and this mana drain % penalizes those who have better gear ( Say holy paladins ) and therefore more mana. It makes the extra mana obsolete.
