The Tuesday Morning Post: Varian Wrynn for President
Good Tuesday Morning, everyone, and welcome to patch day 3.0.3. The nice thing about this extended downtime is that it gives you an excuse to go out and vote if you're an American Citizen and you haven't done that early. But hey, if you're like me and you've already voted, you have time to look over some of the WoW news from the past week. First of all, you'll want to check out the patch notes if you haven't already, and keep checking the site throughout the day for analysis of the patch changes. Beyond that, here's some of the highlights of the last week on the site:
Hot News and Features
- Here's some news hot off the presses: The WoTLK Beta is now over. You don't have to go to the live servers, but you can't stay here.
- As usual, the WoW-themed costumes were out in force for Halloween this year. Check out what some of our readers wore.
- Everyone seems to have their own opinions on the zombie invasion, from our own Mike Schramm to Fox News to The Times Online.
- If you're looking to jump into the storyline of WoTLK, check out this quick guide to the lore that you'll want to know before you dive in.
- Official Midnight WotLK launches have been announced. See if one's coming to a city near you.
Class News
- If discussing your class just isn't cutting it for you, Blizzard has implemented new role forums that break down discussion by tanks, healers, and DPS.
- Read about some of the common bugs and annoyances with Hunter Pets since the new pet revamp, and how to avoid them.
- Totem Talk discusses the Elemental tree.
- You know those shiny new knockback toys you got with 3.0.2, DPSers? The tanks have something to say to you.
- Yes, Retribution Paladins continue to see nerfs. To the Ground, Baby, Indeed.
- Ghostcrawler answered some Feral Druid concerns recently. Unfortunately, the answers weren't completely what said Feral Druids might have liked.
- In the world of Priesting, we get down and dirty with Dispersion.
Professions
- Sharpening Stones, Weightstones, and Mana Oils will now be gone in Wrath. The old recipes will not work on post-70 items.
- Looking to start Inscription? This week, Insider Trader helps you start out with those first 100 points.
Odds and Ends
- World of Warcraft continues to break records, this time clearing the 11 million subscriber mark.
- So the Zombie apocalypse is over. Now what?
- If you're looking for an out-of-game place to track and show off your achievements, WoW-achievements.com is already aiming to let you.
- So the Necropoli are still around. Necropoles? Necropolises? How do you pluralize that word anyway?
- Trying to explain to your significant other what WoW means to you? Don't use this guy's words.
- Need a few quick badges? Got Sunwell gear? How about doing a quick 3-man Kara?
- It's true. I was expecting more movie news at BlizzCon, but we didn't get much at all. If it wasn't for a few comments in the Q&A sessions, we would have thought we dreamed it all. In fact, some people now argue that it will never - or should never - get made.

There has been no confirmation of 3.0.3, nor a notification that the PTRs are closed. It may be patch day, or just a pre launch maintenance to give the servers a calm before the storm.
jay Nov 4th 2008 6:07AM
Yes, but as always, Blizzard are very vague when it comes to confirming anything unless it's major, chances are it's patch day tomorrow for the very fact that if something doesn't gel correctly, they'll have a week to get it sorted before Wrath next week.
Can't begin to imagine the bullcrap that we would have to endure if they released it next week (3.0.3) at the same time as Wrath.
Just my 3 copper.

The extended maintenance window does not lie. Patch 3.0.3 is here today.

I think that Varian Wrynn would make a kick ass president! better than the other two that are going on endlessly about "Joe the plumber"
I DONT EVEN LIVE IN AMERICA AND IM SICK OF HEARING ABOUT STUPID JOE!!!!! WHY SHOULD THE REST OF THE WORLD ( and yes, there is such thing as real, intelligent life outside of your so called "land of the free").

Erm, what is Varian's view on International Politics and the environment? And what about economics?
If I were an American, could I go vote Thrall for President? After all, he IS the warchief (and since he isn't exactly triggerhappy, he's proly a bit more O'bama then Mac Cain anyways).
Athenodorus Nov 4th 2008 8:25AM
Varian's view on International Politics seems to be "kill them all." He may be on the throne, but does he have what it takes to be King? Can he put aside his grudges in the interest of cross-faction compromise? Only WotLK will tell...

Varian Wrynn seems to be leading the Alliance into an ill-sighted and reckless war with the Horde, purely with selfish, revenge driven motives. It cannot end well for the Alliance.
Nene Nov 4th 2008 8:49AM
Varian is a huge flaming giant racist. Of the first degree. Unless you're a pretty Blood Elf jailbait-- in that case you're OK.
Noooo thanks.
Stoneblade Nov 4th 2008 9:38AM
Ugh... I threw up in my mouth a little, when I saw that title.

Varian Wrynn doesn't represent the change Azeroth needs. He's another old school human politician from southern Azeroth who doesn't understand the desires of either the Alliance or Horde.
Call Varian Wrynn, and demand real answers on his plans to integrate with the rest of Azeroth's species, before its too late.
This comment brought to you by Azerothian's for Azeroth, a multiple-species coalition for change in partnership with the Argent Dawn and was neither endorsed by nor paid for by the Thrall for Warchief 08 campaign.
Athenodorus Nov 4th 2008 10:29AM
Varian Wrynn voted to go to war with the Horde in spite of objections from other Alliance leaders. During the Windsor scandal, we learned that Varian Wrynn does not balk at revising the history taught to new players in order to suit his political agenda.
Varian Wrynn: Wrong on the war. Wrong on education. Wrong for the Alliance. (This message was not approved by the campaign to elect Tirion Fordring.)
