Where to begin? (Poll)
Do you remember the night that Burning Crusade came out? I waited in the cold outside Game Stop with about 30 other people. We boasted about our accomplishments and I nearly came to blows with a decidedly orcish young woman who played a Gnome Warrior (with pink pig tails). I rushed home to install the expansion and couldn't wait to get in. First, I ran my character into Orgrimar to get the PvP version of the Hawkstrider. I was disappointed that it didn't exist so I bought a Skeletal Warhorse and trotted on to the Dark Portal.
There was a raging PvP battle in Blasted Lands. The ground was covered in skeletons. I ran the gauntlet as quickly as I could, grabbed the quest and zoned in. Through the portal I found the worst monster I've ever encountered in WoW: lag. With everyone starting in Hellfire Peninsula it was like my character was swimming to sand. While there was an uneasy, unspoken truce between the factions quest mobs were hard to come by. It was reminded of Black Friday at Fry's. I still stayed up until seven the next morning. This time Blizzard is attempting to disperse the opening crowd. We will have the option of beginning in the Howling Fjord or the Borean Tundra. Horde and Alliance will approach from different places so that's another bottleneck out of the way. Some players will chose to roll a Death Knight character right away, which will also diminish the churn. There will be lag, but hopefully it'll be more bearable this time.
So my WoW Insider friends, let's make a plan. Let's try to spread out a bit. Lend us all a hand and participate in the following poll:
| Borean Tundra | |
|---|---|
| Howling Fjord | |
| Eastern Plaguelands | |
| I'm going to try to skip a zone or two | |
| I'll be waiting to get the expansion | |
| Who needs Wrath of the Lich King anyway? |

Howling Fjord. I'm obligated to support my queen.

Same Here.

Howling Fjord, but running onto Dragonblight as soon as I hit 71 so I can try and beat the crowd.
Course after a few hours they'll have probably caught up, but at least I can enjoy a barren snowscape for a little bit.
Cistern Nov 4th 2008 8:41AM
I'll prolly run those empty heroics in BC and have no lag whatsoever for the first day.
Gank Nov 4th 2008 8:42AM
Heck ya, I look forward to the exp pack and all the little hick ups that come with it. I think Blizz learned alot from release of BC and LK will be a much smoother transition.
C'mon Nov. 13th

The release of 3.0.2 was more chaotic than the release of every BC patch combined. Hell, the 2.0.1 patch or whatever went off without a hitch.
I hope you're right.
Aaronomus Nov 4th 2008 10:42AM
3.0.2's release was only so dodgy because Blizzard underestimated the added load that achievements and statistics put on the servers. Once they worked that out, things became smooth again.
I am optimistic about the release of the xpac itself.

Howling Fjord for my Warrior, and Borean Tundra for my Shaman.
The names sound just right together.
BillDoor Nov 4th 2008 8:47AM
I did Borean Tundra on beta, and had fun, so this time I'm going to do Howling Fjord. Looking forward to it.
LostOne Nov 4th 2008 8:49AM
I know nothing about either, didn't get into the beta. So I'm curious to see what people answer here.
Thunkon Nov 4th 2008 8:55AM
It's missing what I normally do; Go where the quests take me... and yes, I've been avoiding the hype, beta, etc. so you can check the box next to "obvious answer here for those in the know". ;)

I've toured the Fjord.. Hehe.. I just want to see that flash on my screen : )
Excruciate Nov 4th 2008 8:54AM
Wow.... really thought most would be going to Borean Tundra! Most people are probably saying Fjord because they think that everyone is going Tundra and due to that Fjord will be the busy one!
I'll probably go Fjord on my mage and Tundra on my priest....
Morgan Nov 4th 2008 8:55AM
Bang Boom Straight to Eastern Plaguelands!
Worcester Nov 4th 2008 2:09PM
Right behind you...
And by that I mean my Rogue will be right behind you, ready to Ambush your shiny new DK as soon as he comes off the press!
Kill all Death Knights!
Nadrysta Nov 4th 2008 8:54AM
Probably the Fjord. I did more of that on beta, but still prefer the look of it overall. I'm trying to count on being able to level in the morning hours before most of my server crawls out of bed.
JetSter735180 Nov 4th 2008 8:56AM
I seriously dont know where im gonna start.
Will there be any difference depending on class and race, except for story line ?
I presume my Undead mage should go to Howling Fjord, and my Druid and Pally should go to Borean Tundra.
I plan on leveling my Druid first, reading almost every quest log, and understanding the story (Lore).
For my 2 other alts, I plan on power leveling.
Aftert thats done, then I level my DK.

My plan is to avoid Northrend for at least a week even though anticipation will be the monster it's self. Truth is, when BC was released, I didn't even install it for 2 months, even though I had it the day it was released. (Fairly though, I was very ill at the time) Big patches such as the ones recently dropped are any indication of server stability and lag issues, what would be the point? One would end up staring at a zoning in screen. And even if you didn't suffer lag at that point there would be so many other trying to complete starter quests it would be almost pointless.
Please don't think I'm not a WoW fan, as on Nov.12th at midnight I am going to be standing in line at futureshop to try and get my hands on a CE, if indeed they will have one. Then I will come home, load it up, patch it if there are any, and continue old world achievements and rep work. :-)

You missed the BC launch then, it really wasn't that bad. I was expecting chaos and planned to stay in Azeroth, but the lag was actually quite manageable in Hellfire and dynamc respawns made quests doable. All in all, I was pretty pleased, it was never unplayable. And I'm sure the Wrath launch will be smoother than BC was.
