The Scourge Invasion makes a swift return
A bit earlier, I reported that many servers (including my own) witnessed the Scourge Invasion come to a close on their realms. This included the necropoleis retreating, the gloomy clouds overhead dissipating, and a bulk of the Argent Dawn forces taking their leave. A few hours later... it all came back.It didn't just come back, it seems this portion has restarted entirely, 'kill counter' reset to zero. The clouds rolled back in, and the Argent Dawn tents in each capital poofed back into existence. Was its disappearance a bug with patch 3.0.3? Did the Scourge retreat after a certain number of battles won, and they weren't supposed to? The magic number we've been seeing thrown around is 300 battles, but we don't have anything to back that number up, just anecdotal evidence. A lot of people have said the same thing, but repetition doesn't mean it's true.
Not all servers saw this go down, so what happened? We have no idea, but the invasion is not over. It just sort of nodded off for a little. I guess the Herald of the Lich King needs a nap now and then.

In the new text given by the scouts, it is stated the plural for necropolis is necropolises...is this correct? i dont know but as far as blizzard is concerned it is.
I guess the argument starts again...

Necrololises?
lord.gwydyon Nov 5th 2008 9:10AM
Necropolae is the proper (Greek) spelling for the plural of Necropolis.
Dura Nov 5th 2008 9:58AM
Now pay attention here, I'm going to give you an Ancient Greek lesson free of charge.
In Ancient Greek, there are 'cases' - nominative, genitive, dative and accusative. Most of the time, the plural of the nominative is used for normal words in English.
The nominative singular of πόλις (pólis) is of course, πόλις. Now I'm not gonna bother with all the cases, but here's the nominative plural for good measure: πόλεις (póleis)
Now because necropolis comes from Greek, the plural is necropolEIS. Got it? Good.

If you're speaking Real English, it's necropoles.
But Azerothian English, it's necropolises.

If I love those little floating castle, cuz they gave my newest 70 a nice set of starter epics can I say I'm a necrophiliac?
conker87 Nov 5th 2008 3:49AM
I look forward to the day Microsoft Word has this language: English (Azerothian)

Aliens have invaded under the guise of necropoles/necropolises.
They are watching... and waiting. :P
*Insert outer limits music*

Just thought about my previous comment a bit and the theory does fit.
A) The real necropoles/necropolises left and now the aliens have taken the form.
B) Thrall went missing. Abduction!

Obviously this is part of The Lich King's grand plan to break the alliance. First were the zombies, now he's sowing discord by helping provoke arguments over the plural of Necropolis. It's classic Divide and Conquer tactics and we must stand strong against it.
And anyway, we all know it's really Necropoleaux... ;-)

Our realm was up to 313 last night. I had heard 350 was the goal. We're back at 63 now.
All my 70 toons are tabbarded/trinketed/epic armored, even my hunter who desperately killed level 71 rares at 66 to get the good stuff (now 70 and wearing it). Hope there's something else coming..
rosencratz Nov 5th 2008 8:27AM
So 250 of your battles won have been lost.
I wonder if that number transaltes to other servers?
G Nov 5th 2008 8:43AM
Something else is weird now: The Kalimdor map shows no invasions at all, yet there we were, killing scourge troopers and shadows in Azshara. Eastern Kingdoms seems to show permanent invasions in BL, BS and EPL (unless no one cares anymore and is just leaving them up).
Aoife Nov 5th 2008 9:04AM
Our server is at 62 this morning - we were at 190 yesterday right after server restarts. I don't think our necropoles ever left but don't know this for certain.
Tural Nov 5th 2008 3:03AM
I also noticed that the forums, for a brief time, had returned to the standard avatars and whatnot. Now, however, they are back to zombies. Perhaps they were merely doing a quick test of their ending system, so they don't encounter an issue where they can't stop the event on time.
RetPallyJil Nov 5th 2008 5:08AM
In Quenya Elvish, it would be Necropolisar :P
Or at least that's my my J. R. R. fan friend told me!
