Preparing for Wrath Day 7: Eat, drink, and be merry
If you're planning on entering Northrend at 68, or if you're going to bring a toon that's new to 70 and isn't sporting a lot of good gear yet, setting aside a few choice consumables may help ease the pain while you're leveling. Even if your character's well-geared, you can take advantage of the early-bird specials being offered by a number of vendors in Azeroth and Outland who are already selling Northrend-level food and drink like Pungent Seal Whey. Check in with your local innkeepers to see what they have stocked, sell off the Outland-level equivalents, and set aside a few stacks of upgraded food and drink from vendors with whom you probably have a reputation discount. This will save you some time and gold before you board a zeppelin or boat for the north. If you're still leveling cooking, now's a great time to get to 375. You can also lay in a stash of buff food that will not only help get you the achievement The Outland Gourmet, but will help you complete The Rokk's daily cooking quests a little bit faster (and the Rokk has an achievement of his own). And it certainly won't hurt to have some buff food around for your first few dungeons.
If your playstyle lends itself toward chugging a few potions while questing in order to reduce downtime (or if you're an alchemist or an ingame version of Donald Trump), be sure to pack a few stacks of super healing and super mana pots (if applicable), or have an injector made by an Engineer to save space. The new equivalents to super healing and super mana potions are runic healing and runic mana potions, but they're not common drops off of early Northrend mobs. Alchemists won't actually be able to make these for a little while after getting to Northrend, as they can't be trained until after a slew of new elixirs, and they also require herbs like Icethorn and Lichbloom which can't be found in the early leveling areas.

Mana pots are for Mages.
Fizzl Nov 7th 2008 5:03AM
Nope.
Mana gems are for mages and we get three free ones each fight.
We also don't have to reduce our dps to use them. :P
Plus you know.. free food, water and teleports? Dalaran at level 71? Ah its good to be a mage. :)
magilegacy Nov 6th 2008 10:52PM

Theres really no difficulty in going to northrend @ 68, its just like going to hellfire @ 58, except your not in lvl 40ish greens from leveling like a lot of people did in Hellfire (those that level'ed after BC's Launch)
The greens and Blues you aquire while leveling through outlands are more then adequate to keep you from exploding to mobs in northrend, I promise!
Of course, having gear / buffs / pots / food / etc will expedite the process :) and theres no harm in it! Just dont go scaring people thinking they need full t5 to not be cannon fodder in Early Northrend! The zones are perfectly tuned for someone @ 68 in greens

Shweet! I was tired of eating food that didn't bring me back to full health, sometimes I'd get so tired of waiting I'd just run into the horde and die cause it's faster >.

Damn. I saw this and thought it was a Well-fed-buff post for a moment. I like those.

Heh - Number One, I'm an Elixir-mastery Alchemist, so I'm loving the idea that we get to play with new Elixirs right off the bat.
Two, I've got 6 1/2 Mana Injectors sitting in my bank, ready for the expansion, and I burned my remaining (useless) Spirit Shards on Auchenai Mana Pots. Won't need healing pots. I'm a priest; I AM my own healing pots. :)
I am so ready for this. BRING IT ON!
ergain Nov 7th 2008 3:56AM
manapots are useless. being a prot-pally. mobs= blocks, blocks= more mana and more mana means heals:D(and the little drawback is fixed with judgement of light) pots are for priests :P
conker87 Nov 7th 2008 5:49AM
DAMN YOU! I took one look at that picture and really want a fry up now.
I hate you!

Tiforix Nov 7th 2008 12:07PM
Been working on the cooking achievements (Outland Gourmet and the Rokk's quests), and consequently I have food out the wazoo. I also have a boatload of scrolls from skilling up Inscrition. I'm about as ready as I can be. :)
Thidgel Nov 7th 2008 6:03PM
Beans for breakfast?
ladydeth Nov 10th 2008 9:56AM
Assassin's Alchemist Stone and Mad Alchemist pots = 6500 crit heals (and some mana too)!
