Mystery continent spotted

Sure, it might be a bit early to speculate about the third expansion, given that the second isn't even out yet (five days!). But I'm going to do it anyway; we do know they've got more planned.
One of the most enduring theories for a place we might see in a new expansion (besides the Emerald Dream) is the Undermine, home of the goblins. The Undermine sits on (technically, under) the Isle of Kezan, and where's that? In Azeroth's southern seas, right where our mystery blob is. Throw in the Maelstrom itself and a few more islands, and you've got yourself a pretty nice set of zones for an expansion.
So is Kezan what we're seeing in this picture? The theory is not without its difficulties. For one thing, the blob is way too big; Kezan is described as a small island, certainly not bigger than Northrend. But what if we flip the picture upside-down? This makes sense, because the bay in what I'm taking for the Eastern Kingdoms also cuts the wrong way, south instead of north. Then the mystery blob at the bottom becomes Northrend, and what we were taking as Northrend is now a reasonably likely candidate for Kezan, being much smaller.
Alright, I think that's enough unfounded speculation out of me. What do you guys think this is? Am I making far too much out of a tiny texture on a random book in a corner of the game, or is this the first hint of WoW 4.0?

I'd be extremely impressed if Blizzard was really forward-thinking enough to include a still-unknown continent in a pseudo-map like that. If you go to Champion's Hall in Stormwind and look at the map spread out on the table, Kalimdor is clearly visible, but there's just ocean where Azuremyst and Bloodmyst Isles should be.

oh hush Kaizen. this is a blog, not a news site. its about why we like the game, not "ZOMG PATCH 5.5.39 ! RUN THROUGH IT WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB !".
things like this point out that wow insider is not mmo-champion.

Give me a conniving neutral money grubbing goblin and I'm there...!!!

It's probably Kezan, but i have a small hope that its Pandaria (or whatever the pandarens call there little island) and that even if we never get to play one, we'll get to see some walking pandas kicking ass and taking names.
And as a reminder, this is only a small thought by a hopeful gnome.

Check the second whiteboard drawing. It's Kezan, alright. Very, very good work, whoever uncovered this. Impressive.
The only question that remains to be asked, is will this be added in the distant future (I.E. another expansion) or will it be patch added, like Quel'Danas was?
Alaecar Nov 7th 2008 7:27PM
Most likely a new expansion. My guess is the Maelstrom expansion that everyone thinks is coming, due to its being in the sea and the fact that a Maelstrom expansion would have to have SOME land to visit. Can you imagine a whole expansion taking place in a big whirlwind in the middle of the ocean?
Rhozul Nov 7th 2008 7:15PM
It's probably the continent where the Undermine is located.

If you read the very last section in the article, this quote is there.
"Note that Undermine was already in the early betas as not a city but a continent south of Kalimdor, but there was only water there and nothing else. "

I don't know what's happening to my posts... they're not showing up.
There are a lot of reports of it being undermine, which i've seen in various maps looking like an island or a whole new continent. Several of you have posted the proper maps and everything. Sounds like the island is going to be Kazan/Kezan, and Undermine is just a city on it.
The real mystery here is what's become of the Broken Isles? In this early map we see them as being northwest of Tirisfall Glades.

However, now Northrend has taken up that part of the map. But astute observers will notice on the world map in the live game (where you can see both Outland and Azeroth) those isles are clearly still there. How do you explain that?
Deminetix Nov 7th 2008 7:18PM
Nope your all wrong ^^
My educated (aka non-qualifying) guess is it is the starting zone for the new healing class.
Did i get someone's hopes up?

That "Southrend" continent shows up on the Tabard of the Explorer. You can see the tip of it on the in-game map of Azeroth.
What also might be worth noting is that Azeroth is round and that whenever we've seen the WoW globe animated, there is a GIANT continent west of Kalimdor and east of the Eastern Kingdoms.
Biggy B Nov 7th 2008 7:55PM
Actually, the 3rd expansion is already undergoing development. It is called "The Emerald Nightmare" including the new playable "Frost Troll" race. I dont know whether this is a new continent or not, but it is very likely.
sariss Nov 7th 2008 8:11PM
I'm pretty sure that's not true. Whatsoever.
None of the future expansions have been "confirmed" yet, and it is more likely that we'll be visiting the South Seas before the Emerald Dream, considering the levels of epicness involved with each.
Sunniva Nov 7th 2008 7:59PM
So level 100 would be the TOP lvl in wow?

that was drawn by wow employs and looks IDENTICAL TO THE BOOK!!!!!, i still want it to be emerald dream tho =/
Yumil Nov 7th 2008 8:42PM
As much as you want it to be, that tiny continent could never be the Emerald Dream. The Emerald Dream does not exist on the same plane as the rest of Azeroth. It is a completely different "world". It is Azeroth as if none of the races had come into existance.
That means that there would not be several continents, just one large continent with the Well of Eternity at the center; not a Maelstrom.
reynen Nov 8th 2008 8:41AM
i know it isn't, it looks like the island w/ the undemine...i can still wish the expansion be emerald dream tho!
BigLove Nov 7th 2008 7:57PM
I haven't read the rest of the comments, so don't scold me if i'm repeating someone. That's not flipped, that's mirrored vertically.
though, how cool would it be to have a few undergound zones?
Mazzive Nov 7th 2008 8:02PM
Cool!
