BigRedKitty: An open apology to everybody

Our Baby Tauren Army had 897 baby Taurens, peacefully hanging out and dancing. We had a fifty-five level 70s in two raids, ready to plow the way into Stormwind. Then, at the appointed hour of 6pm EST, we started for Ratchet, and the lag started. GMs started whispering people in our newly-formed guild, telling us of dire consequences if our actions didn't stop.
Had we spoken directly with a GM, we imagine the conversation would've gone like this:
"Dear BRK. Shut it down. Love, the Blizz GMs."
"But it's just a little lag..."
"You don't understand. You have 1000 people in your raids. The Alliance has 300 or so people guarding Stormwind..."
"Three hundred?"
"Almost all 70s, too. Couple of raids full. We can't handle that PvP battle, the server is already wobbly. Shut it down now, spread out, do something or... just do something."
"You got it, we're done. Crashing servers is not what we want to do."
So we ended it, as soon as we were told to end it. But it wasn't soon enough, Argent Dawn was locked to new character creation, and then, we think, rebooted.
The authenticator server going off-line? Was that a result of our raid? No idea, but let's just assume it was.
We did it. We apologize.
Many people have said that choosing Argent Dawn was a bad idea from the beginning. Our friends there assured us that weekends, especially at our 6pm start time, shouldn't be bad at all. And it really wasn't. There was never a login issue or lag problem, until we started running to Ratchet. Yes, then stuff started hitting the fan.
But what we heard was that it was the potential for further catastrophe that concerned Blizz the most, not the current situation. Yes there were disconnects, by the truck load. But as the army spread out, things calmed down. We are assuming they shut us down and rebooted the server to prevent anything worse from happening.
Although we've said it many times, we never once considered crashing the server a goal. Quite the contrary, we wanted to keep it up so we could have our battle at Stormwind. The fact that it was shut down neither pleases nor thrills us. We may be guilty of many things, but schadenfreude is not one of them.
If you were adversely affected, we're very sorry for your troubles; it was not intentional. If you joined the raid and were disappointed we didn't make it to Stormwind, we wish things had gone better. If you were part of the Alliance raid waiting for us, you just lucked out, (we would've cleaned your clock.)
But above all, regardless if you're angry or happy, we hope that you chose to make a small donation to our cause. No matter what you may think of us, we hope you didn't let that affect your decision to help a sick child.
Now please excuse us, we're gonna pull a Yoda and disappear for a while.
Oh. If you want to flame us, we can handle that. But if you want to flame our cause, think twice. Please.

It seriously amazes me that you are this upset over a half-hour of lag and disconnects over a charity event. A half-hour! You must really get going over things bigger than a slight inconvenience like this.
Fenrix Nov 9th 2008 8:52AM
I say fie to the people who are upset about this! That was the best slideshow since the AQ gates opened! =)
I think it's lame that our GM's shut you down. They never can seem to be bothered when the Blackrock spam griefers come to visit. =(
For what it's worth, only one person in our guild has expressed dissatisfaction. The remainder took the event for what it was.

Take the stick out of your rear mate and be a little classy.
It's not as though it's any worse than what Blizzard put us through on the servers for a few weeks.
And it would have crashed the server on an underpopulated realm too.
So deep breath and be a man, not an I-told-you-so.
No one likes that guy.

Will you people defending this please stfu? If you want to do something in this kids memory then just donate to MAW. There was a forum post by BRK on the AD forums announcing this and there was 4 pages worth of people saying it would crash the server.
But because it was for this kid that makes it ok right? And to those of you who are giving the excuse "well it would have crashed a low pop server too" THEN WHY DID YOU DO IT? When BRK saw that many people at the starting area he should have called it off, but instead he decided to go through with it and crashed the server anyways.
Not to mention the server usually has long lines to get in during reguler times, so not only did you grief the people who were actually on the server when it happened, but you griefed the people who couldnt even get in to play their own characters.
Like I said I have no problem with you honoring this person, but you could have done it in a way that didnt end with you pissing off thousands of people. Instead of making a post on WoWInsider about everyone making level 1s on AD BRK could have just asked everyone to donate to MAW which would have actually been constructive (and yes I know some people did donate).
(lets not forget this server is known for having issues and other morons coming and crashing it regulerly, yet they decided to host it there anyways)
PS - Yeah i know i'm a "heartless bastard" or "piece of shit" because I disagree with what you did, i'll get over it.

3 cheers for BRK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111
Ironhide Nov 8th 2008 8:27PM
most awesome thing ever.
I shudder to think how next week is going to be if your little army caused issues.
Rendol Nov 8th 2008 8:28PM
BRK, an epic feat for an epic cause. I'm sure a potential PvP battle of those proportions would have made him proud. What a feat of organization!
Don't be disheartened just because Blizz can't handle the might of BRK and a good cause!
Angry Joe Nov 8th 2008 8:28PM
Maybe you should try the event in Warhammer?
Tizzy Nov 9th 2008 11:13AM
The point of doing it in WoW is that Ezra *played* WoW, not Warhammer.....
onetrueping Nov 9th 2008 10:50AM
Sure. Because hosting an event for a small child who played WARCRAFT in WARHAMMER is a great idea. And because so many people who would want to support the child in WARCRAFT would even own a copy of WARHAMMER. Excellent idea.
Mike Nov 8th 2008 8:29PM
It was awesome for the time it lasted!
Berg Nov 8th 2008 8:35PM
Grats on a great cause! Donation made. Epic.
Coolaliveguy Nov 8th 2008 8:33PM
My Flame - How dare you think about others before yourself. I mean do we need charity and good old fun once in a while to spice up the server's doldrums? YES.
No one will be flaming you BRK, you did something very humbling, and also payed respect to a departed fellow who probably would have blushed at the fact that 897 taurens joined for him. You did well, including bringing down the server. (hihihi)
BTW I have no hunter alts, and yet STILL, I read every post/video you bring forth to the publics eye. Very entertaining.
Fashionabull Nov 8th 2008 8:32PM
This attempt at a fun thing isn't inspiring confidence in less than a week there will be probably twie as many deathknights running around in one zone
o.O
Sorry things didn't go as planned, and while I donate to a different charity, I hope others that can, will help by donating to this one.
Mindman Nov 8th 2008 8:34PM
Real shame that servers can't handle true player events like this.
Nonny Nov 8th 2008 9:26PM
Very, very true. I didn't make it to this event because I had other things planned, but I'm sad it turned out this way. :(
Emily Nov 8th 2008 8:41PM
If this is what happens on one server when this many people get together, what will happen on ALL the servers on Thursday when everyone and their dogs roll Death Knights?
Allison Robert Nov 8th 2008 9:58PM
I was in the beta directly after a wave of fresh people came in and rolled Death Knights. I can tell you right now that the ninth circle of hell is going to be the Eastern Plaguelands instanced area.
/shudder
Hurode Nov 9th 2008 1:37PM
That's why I'm waiting a couple weeks to make my Death Knight.
