BigRedKitty: An open apology to everybody

Our Baby Tauren Army had 897 baby Taurens, peacefully hanging out and dancing. We had a fifty-five level 70s in two raids, ready to plow the way into Stormwind. Then, at the appointed hour of 6pm EST, we started for Ratchet, and the lag started. GMs started whispering people in our newly-formed guild, telling us of dire consequences if our actions didn't stop.
Had we spoken directly with a GM, we imagine the conversation would've gone like this:
"Dear BRK. Shut it down. Love, the Blizz GMs."
"But it's just a little lag..."
"You don't understand. You have 1000 people in your raids. The Alliance has 300 or so people guarding Stormwind..."
"Three hundred?"
"Almost all 70s, too. Couple of raids full. We can't handle that PvP battle, the server is already wobbly. Shut it down now, spread out, do something or... just do something."
"You got it, we're done. Crashing servers is not what we want to do."
So we ended it, as soon as we were told to end it. But it wasn't soon enough, Argent Dawn was locked to new character creation, and then, we think, rebooted.
The authenticator server going off-line? Was that a result of our raid? No idea, but let's just assume it was.
We did it. We apologize.
Many people have said that choosing Argent Dawn was a bad idea from the beginning. Our friends there assured us that weekends, especially at our 6pm start time, shouldn't be bad at all. And it really wasn't. There was never a login issue or lag problem, until we started running to Ratchet. Yes, then stuff started hitting the fan.
But what we heard was that it was the potential for further catastrophe that concerned Blizz the most, not the current situation. Yes there were disconnects, by the truck load. But as the army spread out, things calmed down. We are assuming they shut us down and rebooted the server to prevent anything worse from happening.
Although we've said it many times, we never once considered crashing the server a goal. Quite the contrary, we wanted to keep it up so we could have our battle at Stormwind. The fact that it was shut down neither pleases nor thrills us. We may be guilty of many things, but schadenfreude is not one of them.
If you were adversely affected, we're very sorry for your troubles; it was not intentional. If you joined the raid and were disappointed we didn't make it to Stormwind, we wish things had gone better. If you were part of the Alliance raid waiting for us, you just lucked out, (we would've cleaned your clock.)
But above all, regardless if you're angry or happy, we hope that you chose to make a small donation to our cause. No matter what you may think of us, we hope you didn't let that affect your decision to help a sick child.
Now please excuse us, we're gonna pull a Yoda and disappear for a while.
Oh. If you want to flame us, we can handle that. But if you want to flame our cause, think twice. Please.

Do you think we could force Blizzard - using Trade Description Laws - to rename the game
World of 5-a-sideCraft
World of Small Skirmish Craft
Possible slogans for the new box would include
Come fight the mighty Horde/Alliance - 5 at a time only and no pushing at the back
Fear the might of the 12 Man Zerg!
etc. etc.
One word now...
WAARRRRGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Anyone who is complaining about this event should talk to Blizzard about removing the achievement to take down the faction leaders.
If Bliz wants to have that achievement in the game they better be prepared for events like this.
Not your fault at all BRK.
Good on you.

I was at the gates of SW on my 'lock, eagerly awaiting the thundering herd. This was an epic event, I'd been looking forward to it since I heard about it earlier in the week. It was a blast - maybe not in the way you intended, but a blast nonetheless!
ashyee Nov 8th 2008 11:59PM
I want you to try this again BRK on a smaller scale!
Vandar Nov 8th 2008 9:29PM
OMG I wish I was there just to see almost 900 baby Taurens stampeding into Stormwind. Sounds like it was a truly epic event, BRK.

Wish I had been there. I'm sure even though it was unsuccessful it was amazing and even though I'm against this whole deification of Ezra (he already has an npc with his voice) and such it would have been great to have been part of such a good cause.

We tried something similar last week on Quel’dorei. We were alliance. We had 300+ lvl 70's raiding Org. We got to Org and once the battle started the lag was bad, then when Horde got themselves together and started showing up the lag became stupid. You couldn't do anything. It was fun to actually get into Org and we had a chance at Thrall if the lag wasn't so bad. It took the Horde about 15 mins to get themselves together. We had it all planned, well "Hood" had it all planed out. We had teams at the flight master and teleport points.

I'll be frank (and later insulted) here. What you did was horrible. The motive (if that was your truly motive) is pretty good, touching and quite good, honoring a poor kid who died from cancer is something very noble.
But hiding behind the "It's for Ezra!" just to cause grief and be an asshat to thousands of people it's just despicable.
When you want to do something good, generally you HAVE to do good. But being an asshat just to boost your ego ("Oh look! Many people are defending me for griefing an entire server") while hiding your disgunsting face behind a poor guy's memory is far from doing good.
Maybe next time when you want to honor someone you will want to make sure people will not remember that someone as just the "mask" of a horrible human being.
VyseV1 Nov 8th 2008 9:47PM
Wow you a dude ass...
Seriously lighten up. Its a game. He did not to that to grief an entire server. He did it for a noble cause and personally if even a penny was donated to the make a wish foundation, I'd call the run a complete success.
Berg Nov 8th 2008 10:21PM
Wow. Your such a jerk. He helped children that are dying. So 15 minutes of down time in your precious game time makes him a evil? You need to really get a grip, dude. Your scaring me.
Matt P Nov 8th 2008 10:03PM
I'll be frank in my insult. It helps to spell-check before going against the mainstream opinion. The word "frank" leads one to think the opinion won't be four paragraphs.

You show your total lack of understanding of what BRK is and stands for.
Next time at least get the facts straight, do your homework and bring to the table more then just your attitude.

"But hiding behind the "It's for Ezra!" just to cause grief and be an asshat to thousands of people it's just despicable. "
You are so off base it is not funny. The event was not done to "cause grief" or to "be an asshat to thousands of people." The event was to raise money for a worthwhile charity and honor the memory of a child who died of cancer and was an avid World of Warcraft player. Nobody involved imagined the turnout would be this massive.
BRK handled this in as gracious a manner as he could. When asked by the powers that be, he called it off. He offered a very humble public apology. Sorry you couldn't play for one night. Get over it.

You Sir, are a douche.
Valfreya Nov 8th 2008 9:53PM

I made my donation right after I made my character for this event yesterday. I ended up not being home for the event (which apparently didn't get far), but was glad I got to participate in the part that will assist the foundation in continuing to make wishes come true for sick children.
It's a very nice thing you all tried to put together - I hope lots of other players donated as well. :)
Kaizen Nov 8th 2008 9:49PM
Way to underestimate the power of 900 cows crammed into a small space. It's enough to shake the very fabric of space and time(aka the server)
