Breakfast Topic: Has the upcoming release of Wrath changed how you play?
We've had a lot of talk here on WoW Insider about what you can do to prepare for Wrath of the Lich King. Stocking up on consumables, clearing out your bank, stuff like that. Some people have really drastically changed their play style to prepare for the expansion which is coming in just a few days.Me? I've actually stopped doing things on my main, more or less. I stopped farming gold, I stopped worrying about consumables and gear. Just about the only thing I do on my main is raid since we're still doing Sunwell Plateau once or twice a week hoping for some weapon drops from Kil'jaeden. What I've been doing with the rest of my time in WoW is actually power leveling a new character to 70 as quickly as I can. Why am I doing that, so close to Wrath?
Because the new Protection Warriors are completely freaking awesome. I enjoy tanking normally, I love doing it on my Protection Paladin, so it's not like it's an entirely new role for me. I made a premade Warrior when the beta realms were still up and I instantly fell in love. I used to have a Warrior at 60, but got rid of it and filled the void with my Paladin. Now I'm regretting that a little bit. Protection Warrior is just so much more fun compared to Paladin now. There are so many tools and so many buttons. It actually feels like I'm tanking, if that makes any sense at all. When I play a Protection Warrior the impact of every blow comes through in the gameplay somehow. That's extremely lacking on my Paladin. My Paladin feels a lot more like "stand there and take it" in comparison.
It might sound weird, but I think even little things like animations and sound effects contribute to that. A hammer ping-ponging through the air and making cartoon noises feels less 'tank' than smashing a guy in the face with a shield and hearing metal colliding and seeing sparks fly into the air. One feels comical, the other feels... manly. Shield of Righteousness doesn't even compare to how awesome Shield Slam feels, so I'm not sure what it could be beyond aesthetics. I do still enjoy playing a Paladin, I don't mean to say that I don't, I just wish I hadn't gotten rid of my Warrior entirely. Leveling from scratch is sort of an annoyance after you've done it so much. I'm not sure whether I'll have two tanks at level 80 eventually, or if I'll just take my Paladin down the Retribution tree and leave it at that.
So that's how my play style changed. Wrath inspired my to level a whole new alt in the little time I have left, rather than pooling my resources or buckling down to make Northrend as easy as possible. How are you guys preparing? Are you preparing at all? Has your play style seen any shifts in the last week or two?

Alex, try ticketing a gm about you deleting your characther. I've deleted several higher lvl chars in the past and was able to restore them later on. It's a long-shot, but it might be a worthwhile shot for you.

I'm sure they don't actually delete characters above level 55 anyway. So you're probably fine.

I actually have been doing the whole raiding thing (on my prot warrior who I love even more now) and just trying to get achievements. I do have my g/f leveling some alts for me tho. This might sound funny, but so far she has netted me a 70 druid and her priest is at 50...

Im just trying to make gold.
Viper007Bond Nov 9th 2008 8:19AM
Yeah, I've stopped doing dailies, etc. I'm only raiding from time to time and farming achievements (rep, etc.).
skry Nov 9th 2008 8:21AM
Yeah i deleted a level 60 toon about a year ago, and had him restored just last month. You just have to ask really nice. (and not too often)

Oh definitely. I've spent months carefully preparing for wrath- mostly by precompleting achievements, hoarding gold, getting better gear from raids, etc. Now most of my objectives are complete.
I log in out of habit, fly around a bit, and log off.
Yesterday I finally finished my heroic dungeon meta achievement, so now I don't even spam my lfg button!
I don't know if I will do anything between now and wrath besides my guild's two scheduled raids.

My playstyle has definitely changed. Everyone in my guild is just farming gold and doing old dungeons for achievements. Tonight we're hitting Onyxia and AQ20.

Money grind, mostly... ;)

I have used the opportunity as a newly lvled 70 to raid for the first time. It has given new life to the game!

I am leveling a Undead rogue with my friend before Wrath. Rogues don't get too much but its a nice change of playstlye coming from a boomkin. I highly doubt we will make 50+ before Wrath but aiming at for like 30...

I'm leveling a rogue atm also. My main was a fury warrior, and i'm not too excited about the way they are headed. I will prob make him into a tank and dps on my rogue.
I just finished leveling a hunter to 70. Biggest waste of time ever. After pugging a couple of raids, and a couple of kara runs with my guild, i'm already bored out of my brain. Hunter raiding is so easy and simple, its not fun.
That doesnt even include the fact that they suck hard in pvp. 1v1 against anything is a loss.
Hoping combat is still good raiding spec at 80, i love the fast constant dmg. But i dont mind some dagger action either, mutilate looks pretty fun also.

Ok lets see
Useful things (I do): Money grind, skill grind, steal epic gems from AH because people sell them "all must go" typed.
I grinded my cooking and fishing to the max to be able to do those on northend. I love buff food.
Useless things: Gear grind
Thats about the thing you can do on wow, endgame..and before wrath. Oh and no, I dont do PvP. Its crappy ganking. I still do raids tho :P I like them. But I've been working on good talent build and massive "AOE grind" thing on wrath. On daily isle I can easily kill 7 mobs at the time..so that way its pretty fast to level up on northend :)
Aaron Nov 9th 2008 8:59AM
Sure if you can find seven mobs which are near eachother in northrend! hehe
Aigarius Nov 9th 2008 1:25PM
Green Northrend gems are better than current epic gems. Everything really _must_ go.
Jonny Dale Nov 9th 2008 8:40AM
Clearing out my quest log (by DOING the quests and dungeons, not deleting them)
And money making. Also got fully epiced last night.
Blasterion Nov 9th 2008 8:47AM
Ever since the pet system overhaul I've been switch in and out more often specialized for special situations, raiding dailies RoS, PvP etc. Pet management became bigger with so many abilities too
xenothaulus Nov 9th 2008 8:49AM
I've been working on rep (for Ambassador and the Albino Drake) and quests for Loremaster on my main, and replaying through all the starting areas of the game again, with minty fresh characters. Also going back and re-trying classes I didn't like however long ago, some that I haven't tried since before BC (hell, I haven't tried priest and shaman again since about 2 months after launch.)
G Nov 9th 2008 8:52AM
Money grind here as well, but I'm back on my main. I had been pushing the last of my three alts to 70 and raiding with my mage alt. Now I'm back to my druid main because it really is the character I can still enjoy doing dailies with, for whatever reason. So I might as well destroy the Isle for cash, bomb various bad things for fun, and try for some achievements. There are more baby crocs to get from the fishing daily (currently 49 of 50 pets). I still don't have all of the recipes from the cooking daily. I can put 1/3 of a mammoth on layaway. Etc.
My alts are at 70 with decent gear and holding. My main cannot wait for that boat to sail north on Thursday, with any and all luck.
Creampuff Nov 9th 2008 8:54AM
Been having trouble knowing what 2 do,everything but farming gold have seamed pointless...
