Ask a Beta Tester: Come back little walrus, I just want to help!

At least that's what I would do if I didn't want to write for WoW Insider anymore. I'll behave, I promise!

I want to start on my Kalu'ak rep to get the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole asap, which starting zone will offer more quests from the Kalu'ak?
Both the Howling Fjord and the Borean Tundra have a pretty hefty number of quests from the Kalu'ak, but Borean Tundra comes out ahead with 2-3 more quests than the Fjord, and the rep gains are a bit higher because some of the Fjord's Kalu'ak quests are just FedEx quests, taking an item across town or whatever. So you'll want to go Tundra if that Fishing Pole is your top priority.

Which starting zone in Northrend has the most village's or forests and the least open areas? I don't wanna end up in another Barrens look-a-like.
Allison answered this yesterday, but I just wanted to stick my nose in and say that I agree with her completely. Neither starting zone is as horrifyingly plain as the Barrens, but it sounds like you'd want to go to the Howling Fjord. The Borean Tundra is very diverse, but I personally think it is very flat and plain in comparison to the forests and cliffs of the Fjord. Not that the Tundra is boring, it's a very unique landscape. It's just not as... filled in, I suppose? I'm sure some of the readers will disagree with me, and that's fine. I think you would like the Fjord better.

Which starting area do you think is the least likely to be overpopulated and not look like the area surrounding the Sunwell Plateau at launch?
I'd bet a dollar that the Howling Fjord will be less populated than the Borean Tundra. Stormwind and Orgrimmar take you to the Tundra while Menethil Harbor and Undercity take you to the Fjord. I think your average player will end up in the Tundra simply because they start closer to it, since Stormwind Harbor is new and shiny and Orgrimmar is a population center. This morning Dan O'Halloran posted a pretty nice guide on how to get to Northrend and other key destinations, by the way.

Do bosses on heroic mode in WotLK drop badges like the bosses of the heroic BC dungeons?
Yep, absolutely. Heroics and 10-man raids drop Emblems of Heroism for gear of equivalent quality. 25-man raids drop Emblems of Valor for gear of equivalent quality.
Coming off of the weekend, we didn't have a whole lot of questions to answer today, so that's all we have until tomorrow. Enjoy your evening, and ask your questions while you can. We only have a couple of days left!

I won't be getting the WOTLK expansion for a few days after the launch. What do you suggest I do until I can get the dvd?

You get warsong rep in borean tundra, do you get an equivalent rep in howling fjord? Or is it better to start off in borean tundra for a headstart on an important rep faction?

Play Fallout 3 or Fable 2

Farm cloth and ore. Babysit the AH. There are still productive things to do if you're delayed. If the game is too laggy to play in Northrend or Hellfire, I'll either be rummaging through the AH in Thunder Bluff, or off mining Thorium in some quiet backwater with no competition.
Your DK needs 300 wool, silk, mageweave and runcloth for the rep turn-ins, plus the assorted fronds and bones for the AD turn-ins. This is all free experience for a new DK, so you can gather this up ahead of time.

Pick up Mirror's Edge. It's kick ass.

So, in relation to faction grinds and opposing factions (such as having to choose striclty between Aldor and Scryer in BC) what are some factions to be aware of like this in WotLK- and what are the Pros and Cons of each as it stands now as far as best rewards? Are there any class or profession specific items a player may want to think about gaining rep with for good patterns or trinkets ect?

Ask-A-Beta Tester!
I was wondering what Ore would be best to mine/buy etc... in order for a future DK, basically what blacksmithing recipes are best suited to a DK if I was to powerlevel its profession?
Thanks

If I want to get in there and start wading through some undead, which zone should I head to?
RogueJedi86 Nov 10th 2008 6:17PM
I think Borean Tundra has both the Horde and Alliance fighting Scourge/Nerubians at their town's gates upon first arrival. Howling Fjord is more focused on fighting Vrykul for both factions. So Borean Tundra is your goal.

Can a warrior with Titans Grip duel-weld this fishing pole with another one for extra +fishing?
Dak Nov 10th 2008 6:16PM
No. A warrior cannot dual wield fishing poles. I tried.
Saiforune Nov 10th 2008 6:16PM
It's unique. L2 read the WoW link.
RogueJedi86 Nov 10th 2008 6:20PM
@Saiforune
He doesn't mean dual-wielding 2 Kalu'ak fishing poles. He means dual-wielding the Kalu'ak fishing pole with another +fishing pole. Say the Kalu'ak pole and Seth's Graphite Fishing Rod, to combine for a +50 fishing bonus.
KJP Nov 10th 2008 6:23PM
Sorry, Titan's Grip specifically states its effect is limited to two-handed maces, swords and axes. No polearms, and presumably no other kinds of poles either.

I know that mages get their dalaran teleport spells at 71, but where does it start? will we have to corpse run to crystalsong to get it?
