Wrath 101: Level 70 PvP gear

Zarhym explains that there are no plans to make Season 3 gear available through the Honor system because there will no longer be any new rewards for Arenas at Level 70. Since all Honor gear available through vendors are two seasons old, all current Level 70 rewards will remain as they are. In another post, Wryxian explained that the personal ratings requirements for Brutal Gladiator gear will also stay in place, pointing out that the gear will last well through the Northrend leveling experience. To that end, Blizzard intends for the gear to be "somewhat limited in availability."
What that really translates to is that Brutal Gladiator gear, and to a lesser degree Vengeful Gladiator items, will be sparsely distributed. In fact, the Season 3 and 4 gear you see now will likely be the last pieces distributed to players. Most players will be leveling to 80 and others who have yet to hit 70 will skip past the gear. Although ranked matches at Level 70 will continue to exist, the payoff will be so slow -- players will need to wait one week in order to get Arena points -- it makes no sense to farm Arenas for leveling gear. Since ranked matches will only be at Level 70 and 80, it means that players will need to stay at Level 70 for a long while just to get some gear that will eventually be replaced.
For all intents and purposes, Level 70 Arena is dead unless it becomes some strange new form of twink PvP. I highly doubt that because getting to Level 70 requires quite a bit more time investment than, say, Level 29 or 39. It is also the lowest level of the next Battlegrounds bracket, which means that players staying at 70 will be at a great disadvantage in any given Battleground. That's quite opposite the twink philosophy, which I believe should guarantee the death of Level 70 Arena play. There are also no end-of-season rewards for Level 70 at the end of Season 5, so players' best bets for PvP gear are Season 2 Merciless Gladiator items. Then again, S2 items should be easily replaced by Northrend quest greens and dungeon blues, so... you're probably better off saving your Honor for the endgame.

True, except for the Season2 lock shoulders since they are still the coolest looking in the game... Always worth the honor. heh

I'd bet on level 70 arena being a popular twink bracket. There's already a lot of people in the bracket, not everyone will level every alt, people know how PVP works at 70.

They should take out 70 arenas entirely instead of leaving it and creating some sort of unholy level 70 twink bracket (the thought of which makes me wretch).
Arenas should be reserved for only the highest level characters.

I'm keeping my level 70 restro druid at 70 with all my hard worked s3 and s4 gear, but as china (which is where i live currently) is getting wrath late, i am leveling another druid to take up to 80.
I do think this is well worth the effort as why waste all this gear you have spent almost a year on?
On a point about 70 being the lowest in most bg's, im sure that AV will be from 61-70.

I'm following the same vein with my playing decisions with Wrath... my T6-geared PvE DPS Warrior is getting the bench til I wear out the new druid! Hell, maybe the warrior stays like some old school lvl60's in BC... haven't made my mind up yet.
The warrior looks so good, I couldn't imagine just replacing stuff in a month that I've had for so long! There is definitely an attachment to my character's looks, esp. given the new expansion and greens taking the place of my lvl70 epics.

My current arena toons will stay at 70 while I level a DK, and since I can probably easily find a partner (one of my friends' stalled 70s) I might invest the few hours a week to grab some extra arena points.
After all, most people will only level one character at a time, and leave the rest at 70.

What can I get for BG marks and honor at level 80? Anything?

Quick question on a related note. I'm new to the game (just hit lvl 68 on my first toon last night) and I keep seeing references to "tier x" gear or "season x" gear. What does this mean? Where do you get this stuff? Are lower-numbered tiers & seasons better or higher-numbered? On Wowwiki I see a page giving details for tier gear, but it doesn't explain how you get them.

Season gear relates to the arena season it was released in. We are currently at the end season 4. Each season, the gear got progressively better, and battlegrounds recieved the older sets as rewards. It's the same concept with the tierd gear, but those come from raids. Tier 4 is entry level raid gear dropped in the lower level raids like Kara.

Is it worth saving lvl 70 pvp gear? Will it be worth anything at lvl 80 with things like +resilience, or will the T5/t6/northrend blues be better? I'm trying to figure out what to save. :)

This ticked me and a lot of other people off. Blizzard is -flooded- with tickets right now. (Mine has been open for 2 days) because people are TICKED about the level 70 gear not being available.
On my alts that had the PVP gear I have leveled to 78 before replacing some pieces. On my warlock he is 76 and he has YET to find anything worth replacing the PVP gear for. (PVP server)
So I was actually looking forward to PVPing my brains out with my death knight and my rogue to get the best gear to make leveling to 80 easier and faster.
Blizzard needs to realize there are people who like PROGRESSING TO more than BEING AT cap. I get bored with a character and make an alt less than a month after I reach cap then only play them to raid. I don't LIKE being at cap I WANT TO TAKE MY TIME. Getting the level 70 gear would have added so much content to the game for me. As it stands my account is going to be canceled on the 6th of Jan. I have leveled so many alts to 70 and found it so dissatisfying to be capped I'm not going to do it all over again for all of them to 80 using substandard gear.
PVP is fun for me! Blizzard needs to realize that this is a slap in the face to player who where not 70 when the X-pack came out. Why should the new people have to level with crappy gear? Do they really think a warlock can level with quest rewards that give +44 SPIRIT? The first three ZONES of gear /bite/ for anything other than a priest who is healing.
If the gear has spell power then it has low stam or if it has hit it has no crit or spell damage to speak of. It is like they developed a new formula of creating quest reward gear to give it the biggest numbers and yet make them as useless as possible when worn together.
I am not leveling using that crap gear.
Canceling my account unless they give me back my access to gear I can customize.

Is Tier 3 gear gone forever? I only have WOW Classic & was really looking foward 2 raiding Naxx for that gear.
