How to find your way to all those loved squirrels
"You love Rat." "You love Chicken." "You love Rabbit." I have to admit, before the achievements came to the game, I was a critter-killer -- I usually ended the lives of any critters I came across, because this is war and the world is no place for them. But since achievements appeared, I've gone around loving every little animal I could -- I haven't gone at To All the Squirrels I've Loved Before with a plan, just emoted towards everything I found. But Random Ravings isn't quite as random -- they've got a terrific list of where to find every single critter you need. Only two are actually in Northrend (I thought there was more), and the rest seem to be in muliple places around the world, so it doesn't seem too bad at all. The hardest might be the wild parrot -- that one seems to be only in Un'Goro, but brave the dinos down there, find the bird, and you're all set.
Nice list. Anyone ready to head up to Borean Tundra and just grab the last two? BBR says they're also working on a list of all the books for the reading achievement -- can't wait to see (and eventually run around and do) that one either.

I got this one. Most of the books are in two libraries, SM and Karazhan. The Karazhan library has most of the books you would only otherwise find in Alliace capitals.

"I usually ended the lives of any critters I came across, because this is war and the world is no place for them."
Hilarious, Schramm! I literally couldn't stop laughing for like a minute because of that. Good stuff, you took my mind off the mailing/server down fiasco.

Several users have posted excellent guides on where to find the books.

Agreed. I used WowHead and just finished this one the other day thanks to a run through Scholo. Mage ports are very, very nice. :)

Thorra's post on the achievement on Wowhead is a better list.
http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=1206
It lists it by zone so you can do it easier.

I wrote this macro while sitting on my alt one day. It attempts to
do the love emote if your current target is a critter. I've only tested it out on a few critters. After that it will start tracking your current progress on the achievement. Too bad I don't know how to actually target a nearby critter. (It should all be on one line.)
/run local x = UnitCreatureType("target"); if string.match(x or "","Critter") then DoEmote("LOVE"); SetTrackedAchievement(1206); end
No, I haven't tested it on non-English clients, so I don't know if "Critter" or "LOVE" needs to be localized. Feel free to remove the SetTrackedAchievement(1206); part if you don't care about your current progress.
Use at your own risk, etc, etc.

There's a ton of the books in the Scarlet Monastery.
Good reading too.
The librarians are quite irritable, though.

I'm ready for the last two critters in Northrend. Getting all the others wan't too difficult. I used the comments at Wowhead as a guide.
The hardest one was the parrot, and it turned out a bit funny too. I rode around Un'Goro Crater for over 30 minutes looking for where I had remembered seeing parrots, but couldn't find one. Finally I decided to check Wowhead to see where they should be, and when I alt-tabbed back to the game, there was one literally flying in front of me.

If you can find parrots, you may need to kill all snakes. Both critter types spawn randomly at each spawn point.
Lashay Nov 11th 2008 4:14PM
That book achievement was alot easier than i though. The only difficult on was located in Scholo, and i needed that achievement anyway.

i'm continually surprised at the quality level of comments on WoWHead. a lot of them are "lolzomgbbq" and the like, but there are also lengthy and informative comments as well.
Deathstriker Nov 11th 2008 4:24PM
I killed all the critters I came across also....here's a nice little note for those of you who don't like to let the damn things live...you can /love their dead bodies as well, and yes it works for the achievement.
Erfin the Great Nov 11th 2008 4:23PM
You know you still get credit for /love a dead critter right? So feel free to continue murdering those pesky chickens and squirrels and just /love once they are no more.

Don't go critter hunting for this with the Stormchops buff. That was so depressing - first the fawn, then the cow, then the sheep... >.< (Although, I guess if you're a critter killer at heart, it might satisfy your thirst for blood at the same time.)
I didn't want to wait around for a Karazhan run, so I did all the books while my husband was rebuilding my system a couple weeks ago and I had to hang out on his computer. Stormwind guards just ignore feign now (not even a resisted message!), so I was broken all the way down to red by the time I got back out of the city.

I wish there was a selectable "Lamp" critter so I could see "You love Lamp." on my screen.
Ametrine Nov 11th 2008 5:44PM
... I don't get it.

SMaxwell Nov 11th 2008 4:28PM
I don't usually correct writer's, and I know Mr. Schramm is trying to be funny, but rat is not on the "To all the Squirrels..."
There! I said it. I feel better now.
