In-game mail to be reimbursed
Zarhym announced a short time ago that all mail items lost today will be reimbursed. The reimbursement of the in-game mail will happen in two steps:- All items in the mail system will be sent to characters in one or more mail messages.
- Gold from the AH or sent through the mail will be sent in a separate message.
Do not contact a game master (GM) about this, and do not call customer support. The reimbursement will happen automatically.
Since the forums are down, you can read the full text of Zarhym's announcement after the break.
Are you ready for the challenges that await you in Northrend? WoW Insider has you covered with our 8-day guide to Preparing for Wrath. Also, check out our feature on AddOns new, old and outdated and Essential AddOns for Wrath written especially with the expansion in mind. From Zarhym:
We wanted to inform our players regarding today's extended maintenance. We experienced an error that resulted in players being unable to retrieve in-game mail from the last 15 days. Once the error was discovered, we brought down the realms immediately and began working to address this problem, and have been doing so for the duration of the day. Our decision was to enable players to continue playing World of Warcraft before the opening of Wrath of the Lich King. Work would continue on addressing issues with the in-game mail while the realms were up. This is the plan that is currently in motion.
The process from this point forward will be twofold:
1. All items that were in a mail will be sent to characters in one or more messages depending on the amount of items the character had in the mail system.
2. Gold from auction house sales or sent through mail will be sent in a separate mail.
We are working to resolve this issue, and we will keep our players informed throughout this process. In the meantime, please do not create an in-game ticket or contact phone support for this issue – multiple mails will be sent returning your items and gold automatically. We greatly appreciate your patience during this time.

They are bringing up US as we speak
Whatever.... Nov 11th 2008 11:49PM
They are slowly coming back on.....there are more and more green arrows on the realm status page on the website. Hopefully this is a good sign.....?
Yes, I play. Yes, I wanted to play more. I just hope the extended time was good enough for them to fix what was obviously very wrong.
Now....about those who had /wrists posts and they were going to quit the game........wonder how many jumped in glee at them starting to come back up.....

Geez. Blizzard has known people using mail for storage has been a dbase issue with them for well... since the beginning.
Yet they chose to not deal with it, and would issue occasional 'stern warnings' to users to unload their mailboxes and park their lewts someplace 'safer', to no avail. Why would WoW players care? Using a mailbox as a bank has always worked for them.
This isn't in any way a user issue leaving too much junk in the mailbox. It's a Blizzard issue for not figuring out a system to get players to unload their mailboxes.

While I'm sure this works on the kiddies, I'm afraid I'm neither impressed nor upset by your comments.
I am aware I'm a noob, and it doesn't bother me.
I am not ashamed that I enjoy the game enough to be too excited about having gotten to the flying mount to be bothered with silly things like reading discriptions. So yeah, I discovered it paying for it. I'm sorry that you have lost the ability to enjoy the game that much.
I also will not apologize for having goals in the game. Given the fact that Wrath will have it's own expenses, I don't see why it is so hard to comprehend why I would want to get this one out of the way now, and have it safely put away for when I need it later. Not to mention it is still usable in Outland, for dailies and rep grinding, no matter when I can use it in Wrath.
I am however quite pleased that the patches have fallen in nicely with your style of play. They were not so kind to me, and I will not recant the statement simply because you do not agree with it. I play my own way, and I was happy with it.
I dislike having to keep my pet on passive all the time to be able to draw out mobs, and I dislike having to check my pets talents every ten minutes to be sure that they are set for autocast or not as I assigned them, and I'm not overly amused that my favorite shot no longer does the damage I came to rely on to open a battle and end it fast.
So, all that said, I do hope you feel better for having given your best to insulting me, and that you are not too disappointed in your failure. I will not shut up, I'm not "properly chastized", and honestly, I'm just not impressed.

all my mail is gone including mail from 1 day ago, 10 days ago, 25 days ago.
was the 15 day thing an oversight? i've lost everything on more than one character.
i don't mind if i'm going to get it all back but i want to be sure that i get it ALL back, not just the last 15 days worth.
in game mail appears to be working now for new items/letters sent just anything from before the servers went down can't be accessed.

The blue post has been edited and the "15 days" bit is gone.

I wonder if the free epics (caster necks and rings) that are in the hall of legends are to make up for the mail blunder? Hmmm.......
AD Nov 12th 2008 3:19AM
No and you will see those items disappear, like when the Shaman's T6 was bugged that you get the helm with no tokens
stuart_watson_99 Nov 12th 2008 9:48AM
With a game of this magnitude, I personally feel they do a fantastic job overall with stability and game issues.
Servers and code for 12 mil customers is nothing to sneeze at ;)
Regards & Good Hunting!

Blizzard missed a HUGE opportunity, in my opinion. They should have played the whole thing off as an IN GAME EVENT!
In game email from Lich King
"I grabbed all your mail, sucka! Come and get it!"
Then whoever downs Arthas first could get it all!
They could trasfer all that Blizzard hate into Arthas hate. Win!
