Wrath 101: Getting from Borean Tundra to Howling Fjord and vice versa

One of the questions frequently asked is which zone will you be leveling in first? A large majority of players will pick Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord.
Why not both?
Not to worry, there's a far easier way of getting from the Tundra to the Fjord and back again. You don't necessarily have to go back to your capital city zones and then transfer to a different zeppelin or boat. Our new walrusian friends the Tuskarr will be supplying the main modes of transportation with really big turtles. Those Goblin turtle mounts are no match for these behemoths.
These carrot powered turtles will shuttle players from Borean Tundra to Dragonblight where they can then hop off and switch turtles in order to resume their journey to Howling Fjord. Don't worry, trips are free.
Note that all of the Tuskarr ports have flight paths for both factions for easy access to and from.

Unu'pe (Map coordinates: 77, 50 - Borean Tundra to Dragonblight) - This is the Tuskarr settlement in Borean Tundra. Beginning players will find that they may not be able to reach it immediately. The trek to Unu'pe is far for both Alliance and Horde players. The shot above is centered on the neutral flight path. On the right of the shot, you can see a sea turtle waiting for passengers for the trip to Dragonblight.
Let's call him Donatello.

Moa'ki Harbor (Map coordinates 48, 76 - Dragonblight to Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord) – This is the only stop between Unu'pe and Kamagua. There's Donatello waiting to ferry passengers back to Borean Tundra. On the left side is the platform to Kamagua which is in Howling Fjord. Be sure to grab the flight path here!

Kamagua (Map coordinates 25, 57 - Howling Fjord to Dragonblight) – Here's the Kamagua side of the world. Leonardo hasn't quite arrived yet. Kamagua is accessible by a gondola located at the Ancient Lift located along the south western part of the map.
You didn't really think there were only two turtles did you? Raphael has been spotted in drydock waiting to give either turtle a rest.
Anyone that has seen Michelangelo is encouraged to comment and post his whereabouts. Unfortunately, no one know where he is at. Other than that, have fun surfing the seas on the back of turtles! I suspect players will be doing quite a bit of back and forth hopping between zones!
Arthas awaits and so do your questions. Find the answers you've been looking for that will help you with your journey into Northrend and to level 80 with Wrath 101.Filed under: Tips, Tricks, How-tos, Walkthroughs, Guides, Wrath of the Lich King

Mutant turtles?
They aren't teenage or ninja even. That sucks.

Great guide. I was wondering exactly this just the other day. I'm glad I can get back and forth to my buddies easily.

How about a post detailing flight paths for the new continent... I've always been a flight path nut, suicide running just to open up new territory.

How about this post?

I love the Tuskarr. Mostly because they are fishing based. That excited me a lot. And to know they will be our best complanion in switching zones, makes me happy indeed.

Just as a quick note for choosing your starting zone: The Fjord houses the instance that is accessible upon login launch night, but the Tundra houses a few notable quest changes including the DEHTA chain leading up to the Assassination of Harold Lane. DEHTA opposes Hemet Nessingwary, and these quest offer both rich flavour and blue rewards for all classes/specs.
Switching between both will allow you to do both, though, so thanks much for the article.

Just like the Level 80 rat with 4 Level 1 turtles in the sewers under Dalaran....

Are the turtle rides continuous (like from Auberdine to Tel'drassil)? Or are they like all the other boat rides, with a map and travel path a la Indiana Jones?
SaintStryfe Nov 11th 2008 3:50PM
Continuous.
Blasterion Nov 11th 2008 1:57PM
that's a new use for turtles...

How about a map of the entire Northrend zone with these various spots marked? The coordinates don't mean much to me yet.

"A large majority of players will pick Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord. "
As if we have another choice of where to start? I think i will start directly at Icecrown and after defeating the Lich King i will head to Borean Tundra and start from there :P

ya, you could grind up a level or two in the outlands, finishing quests and such, less xp yes, little slower yes, but on a pvp server a lot safer, and on any server, a lot less lag. also you could always try skipping the beginner zones and go straight to sholazar, harder quests and bigger monsters, but more xp, and less competition
Kor Nov 11th 2008 2:36PM
Giant riding turtles....-_- ...............^_^ Thats AWESOME!!!
kalatash Nov 11th 2008 2:48PM
I will admit, I laughed when I saw the carrots on the stick in front of the turtles faces.
