Preparing for Wrath Day 1: Get your act together
It's not that you've done anything wrong, but if you want to really hit the ground running in Northrend you're going to need to get your act together. Go outside and get some food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and other goodies. All those nutrients will let you stay up and play Wrath until you fall asleep in your chair. But there's more to it all then just that. You need to make sure everything else is taken care of so you can have some uninterrupted play time tonight. Be a pro and get as much of this stuff done now, so come 11pm or so when you walk out to your midnight release gathering you can be free of all responsibilities.
And if you're really a pro, you've secretly engineered your life for the next few days to allow you the maximum amount of time to play Wrath. If you're like me this includes having a wonderful dinner with your significant other tonight, then some alone time with her and Jon Stewart, and finally the "Okay hon, I'll see you in a few days."
I'm sure that'll work, right?
Read on after the break for the WoW Insider "I proudly don't have a life outside of WoW for the next few days" checklist. Follow it, and you'll finally be prepared for Wrath.
- Get some real food, not just junk food. Things like pasta, bread for sandwiches, and even a frozen pizza or two are good.
- Get a wide variety of drinks: soda, juice, water, etc...
- On the same note be sure to drink a lot of water. Nothing makes you as tired as dehydration, and drinking pure water is the only way to go.
- If you're of legal drinking age (21 kiddies), be sure to go with something you'll be able to stomach easily.
- Don't eat too much candy, the sugar high and low afterwards will make you want to go to bed at 1:00am.
- Clean your underwear! Or in other words, make sure you're wearing some comfortable and clean cloths. If you want to stay up tonight, convince your body that you should be up like it's the day.
- Clean the area around your computer. Sure mess can be nice and cozy, but if you want to really push with Wrath tonight you'll want as clean an area as possible so your brain can fully concentrate on the game.
- Feed your pets and make sure they're all set. This might seem like a "duh" thing, but I usually play with my cat before I go to bed. Tonight I'm going to play with him earlier so he's all tired and won't bother me when I'm trying to play the game.
- Play in a well lit area. Darkness makes your body want to sleep, light makes it want to stay up.
- Clean off your computer. Get rid of any unnecessary startup programs, turn off everything you can. You want to have your system running in tip-top-shape when Wrath installs and plays for the first time. No need for unnecessary downtime.
- Replace your keyboard and mouse batteries, or charge them fully. If you're using anything wireless, be sure it's fully charged

Don't forget to take a break every once and a while; get up and walk around. You don't want blood clotting in your legs.
Naix Nov 12th 2008 5:06PM
Take some aspirin to avoid getting them.
Lost In Gaming Nov 12th 2008 4:49PM

Pre-WoW I would have thought that this list was a little sad but I'm already contemplating what I need to get for my Wrath mega weekend. I know some players who have taken a few days off work to get stuck in it and if I had enough leave left I would have too.
Do you think that taking a flask of coffee to my computer room is a little excessive??
Let me know how you all survive!

Hooking up a homemade catheter will also speed gameplay, allowing you to avoid all those troublesome trips to the bathroom.
An illustrated guide to do-it-yourself catheters from common household materials can be found at....

Oh God... it's not like I needed more reason to not have a life. I thought I was doing pretty well by having Wrath shipped to where I'm staying after my quarter ends.. if I end up getting the upgrade code before my finals this week, i'm -screwed- *sob*
Anyone know by the way if all the northrend content is on our computers from downloading Echoes of Doom? Or are we going to have to install/download everything.

Confirmed, doing /who death knight on Hellfire-EU shows 17 DKs, you can't see them if you go to the starting zone, I assume this is because it is phased?

I'm also about to lay down and take a long nap before i head to the midnight launch to pick up my copy

If your computer savy also update your BIOS, Chipset drivers, video card drivers, and monitor drivers. My wow run as smooth as glass now.
I agree with some "snuggle" time with your wife/husband because you won't be seeing them for a few days. I told my wife last week that I would be busy from Thursday to Saturday night playing and not to expect anything from me.
Workout tonight from 5pm to 6:30 pm and get your body ready to be seated from 12:00 to 2:00am. Also to give you a little energy for the next few days. In fact you should already have a workout schedule.
Take a nap from 8:00 pm to 11:00pm to get some rest...your going to need it.
Don't neglect your in game friends once you have the game installed. If you going to solo a death knight work on getting them up to speed with everyone else. If you going to level two toons..park the DK and play your geared out other toon with everyone.

I have never been sadder to go on a vacation ... I scheduled a trip to visit my sisters TOTALLY OBLVIOUS to the fact that it coincides with the release of Wrath ..
Now my bf and friends will all outlevel me for a week and I will have to come home and do the grind all alone ... QQ!
Maybe I can convince everyone to skip leveling and just make deathknights instead. ..

Tailchaser Nov 12th 2008 5:21PM
I can't play till late Thursday night :(. I already have everything planned though, What zones to quest in, What Rep I need from what zones, where to pick up the best gear as I level and once I hit about 77 where to run to get my gear to start Naxx ASAP. It's gonna be a long weekend.

Morse Road Best Buy in Columbus Ohio will NOT be doing a midnight opening BUT they sold pre orders saying they would be open at Midnight.
The website still has them as opening as of this moment.
I was told the managers knew this for weeks but never told the employees till tonight!
kunukia Nov 12th 2008 5:29PM
I'm all set. Just have to take a nap, and walk the dogs, right before I head to Gamespot.
Ravenice Nov 12th 2008 5:36PM
I know you're all excited, but come on! If this isn't reinforcing the stereotypical image of a WoW playing as anti-social and unhealthy loners having no life outside of the game, I don't know what does.
I'm sure there *must* be other WoW players that aren't taking days off from work and family to play this game, aren't camping outside of a store until midnight just so they can get games they're already guaranteed to have a few hours ahead of their friends, and aren't going to binge on WoW like they've lost all common sense. It's just a game folks!
