Realms down for a three-hour maintenance

However, when the realms finally came online, a pleasant surprise greeted excited players upon logging in -- PvP gear was seemingly being given away for free. Ratings requirements were removed from some Season 4 gear, while a few Season 2 items were being sold by the vendors for absolutely nothing. For a short while, major cities were filled with players in full Season 2 Honor gear without any gems or enchantments. Not enchanting or socketing epic gear seems rather newbish, but it should be the wiser thing in hindsight. Blizzard stated that they were aware of the bug and advised players against purchasing the gear.
Blizzard's Cinterome explained that the downtime was intended to correct the PvP gear issue and that all players who purchased items should expect that the items will be removed from their inventories and any currency used to purchase said gear (Arena points, Honor, and Marks of Honor) should be appropriately refunded. Now we've all got a more pressing issue ahead: what are we going to do for the next three hours?

GET A LIFE ?
Just kidding, I'm a EU player and I really got "scared" when I read about htat nasty mail problem. Hope they will fix it soon, the first wotlk (k)night is coming and surely everyone is worring about being in Northerend as fast as possible :)

It's funny that you think it will only be down for 3 hours.

Update from Blizz:
There is now NO ETA for the end of the downtime.
It's really funny that they come out and say 3 hours when they clearly have no clue. Just say that upfront, people would be less annoyed.

@ joggoms
To be honest, this should be no news at all. Big patches almost always bring storms and earthquakes. It's bad, it's sad... but it's the way it generally works :-). Even if I got my EU copy ready for the launch (00:00) I bet we wont really play until at least 12hrs later, due to server problems, players flood, etc.

@Rugus
Sure, it's not really a *surprise* given yesterday's downtime, but yesterday was just supposed to be a regular maintenance day so it is a little bit more of an issue than if it were a patch day. And, of course, this is now day 2 of downtime and we are supposed to be able to play WoTLK tomorrow (theoretically).
Obviously we'd all rather be playing the game than discussing this crap here on WoW Insider (no offense WoW Insider) but posting here is how I vent my frustrations with not being able to play. :)

It gets better, log-in again. You will be greeted with an announcement in an hour for how long they will "CONTINUE" to be down...great. I expect a refund, not in game, but in "RL".

Think at wotlk like Christmas: it's so good until it actually comes the hour (00:00) and you start unfolding the presents, then it's yet again +12 month to come until a next Santa comes down from the chimney :D

For the next three hour's i'm going to sit and wish it was tomorrow.
kabshiel Nov 12th 2008 11:06AM
I'm betting that tomorrow is going to look a whole lot like the last two days.

Goodness, I am 90% away from 70 on my druid. I have tuesdays and wednesdays off from work so this doubly sucks.
Akeesha Holder Nov 12th 2008 10:23AM
Yeah I'm 50% through 69 and my husband is halfway through 68 :(
NovaDeez Nov 12th 2008 10:37AM
I have my mage at 60% through 69. I accidentally slept in too late so I'm just skipping my first class and now I can't even accomplish anything.
Tanglebones Nov 12th 2008 11:50AM
You all can go to Northrend, y'know? Quests and what-have-yous start at level 68. It won't be as easy for you as it will be for the people in full T6, but it shouldn't be too hard (esp if you have a decently geared 70 friend who'll group with you for a little bit). I brought every one of my current 70's to Outlands at 58 and did just fine... it's supposed to be the same deal with Northrend.

The Lich King's cunning plan continues apace: he is bent on destroying all Azeroth. So far, it seems to be working.
