Two attendees already in line at NYC Best Buy event

I think it's beyond cool that they took the time to set up this feed. Liveblogs are some of the funnest things to read on days like today, and Twitter is the perfect venue for it if you don't have your own dedicated site set up for something like that. And those early attendees? Okay, they're a little crazy, but I'll go ahead and give them props for it. Events like this don't happen every day, so you might as well make a story out of it. When The Burning Crusade launched, I walked three hours in a Wisconsin winter while it was snowing to pick up my copy. Was it insane? Yes. Was it fun? Yes! If you don't have a story to tell after an event like this, you missing half of the fun. Go out and make the best of today!
If you plan on following this feed and you're new to Twitter, don't forget to follow WoW Insider's very own twitter account where you'll see alerts and anecdotes from our team. You might also be interested in some silly fun and want to follow a few Warcraft characters as they tweet.

I'll be headed that way after work. I'll try to get some photos of the insanity.
Roland Nov 12th 2008 3:28PM
Does anyone know if there are any (less insane) locations in NYC where one can pick up a copy at midnight? Say, in the village?
SaintStryfe Nov 12th 2008 3:36PM
there are a bunch. Go to gamestop's homepage, they'll have copies. But only for pre-orders, perhaps. Give one a call.

Well im in SoHo @ work atm, and havent heard a peep, of any WoW copies at Midnight except for chain stores or Mom & Pop places that have been selling it early. Besides that, wtf? Its not even 4pm and they're on the "line". Its not THAT serious...

I checked this out just a few minutes ago, and that 7-11 doesn't have them out anymore
Kyle Nov 12th 2008 3:31PM
Standing in line for 12 hours, when if you show up right at midnight you probably won't have to wait more than an hour. But I guess that 1 hour those guys can run home and start installing...

Your right but to what extent is the bonus/benifit?
I guess if your a hardcore PvP toon, you want to get the advantage of advancing toward what ever gear Northrend can offer, but its not that big of an advantage time wise.
Also its supposed to rain some tonight.

the fun? I'm sitting here at my workplace at Brooklyn College in a draenei t-shirt and my WoW ball cap, staring longingly at the clock for 8:00, and I'm getting passers by my desk at the archive yelling "For the Alliance" (one "f*ing blueberries!"), so yeah, it's just fun.

I went to a midnight "event" that was boring...and long...lots of people who were...ummm...I'll just leave it at lots of people. The worst was the 13 year old girl practically selling herself to anyone in line who would give her attention. I thought to myself "this is not for me". Not exactly the environment that I consider "fun".
I'd rather hang at home with my family and/or friends or even do some last minute stuff in game to prep and then head out...I'll yell "for the alliance" in guild chat.

I just had surgery not long ago. :[. So not getting a copy for a bit. :[.
Evi Nov 12th 2008 4:10PM
I hope you feel better soon.

No big events here in Renton, WA, but I am still going to get in line a bit early at my local shop and chill with other fans since I have the next couple of days off work.
Adam Nov 12th 2008 3:38PM
I just got my copies from Amazon. It's great not having to stand in line.
elly Nov 12th 2008 3:39PM
where in wisconsin!? :D
Alex Ziebart Nov 12th 2008 3:41PM
I'm in Cudahy right now. Miserable little place. Smells like bacon 24/7.
It's not as awesome as you might think.
elly Nov 12th 2008 3:45PM
ahh. close to milwaukee, then? :) i'm in madison. :D great place, lemme tell ya!
Alex Ziebart Nov 12th 2008 3:50PM
Yep, right next to Milwaukee. Until last year I lived in Milwaukee itself. I've been to Madison a few times, but only passing through. I used to ride the bus to visit some poeple in Minnesota now and then, Madison was one of our stops.

pre-ordered at best buy myself. i'll probably show up around 11:30 to get in line, and i figure it won't be too bad. From there, pop the DVD into the laptop in the car, hit the road, and have it installed by the time i get back to my wireless network.
The only thing that sucks is being on an east cost server - Wrath will open up on the server an hour before i can get over there!

My wife and I were at the BC release and signing at Fry's in Sunnyvale, CA last year. We got there at around 10AM and there were already people that had waited since the night before. These guys in NY don't compare. ;)
The live blogging is cool though. And yes it was organized madness last year. :D
