Wrath 101: Alliance flight paths in Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight
In about nine short hours, we'll all be storming the (figurative) gates of Northrend, in one of two zones: Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord (I'll be Fjording first, in case you were wondering). The zones are pretty large, but fortunately, they're replete with flight paths. And one of the questions I can promise you are going to see for the first week or so in /1 is: "Where is the FP?" But you, gentle reader, will not be asking this question, because I'm going to tell you where all the flight paths are (Horde-side friends, your version of this post is coming soon).
First off, you'll need to know how to get to Northrend in the first place. Fortunately, we've got your back. And once you do get there, you may want to shuttle from one starting zone to the other. Turtle boats to the rescue!
Now once you've picked a zone, how do you get around within it? Note that there will be zone-specific information and maps after the cut; if you don't want to see anything about Northrend before you go there, don't click.
Howling Fjord
There are four Alliance-accessible FPs in the Howling Fjord: three Alliance, and one neutral. The Alliance ones are all circled in blue on the map above, and the neutral one in yellow.
- Pricilla Winterwind in Valgarde (60,33), southernmost on the map, is the first FP you'll most likely come across, as the boat from Menethil docks in Valgarde.
- Greer Orehammer is in Westguard Keep (31,44), just down the road northwest from Valgarde.
- Northeast of Westguard you'll find James Ormsby in Fort Wildervar (60,16), northernmost on the map.
- The neutral flightmaster in Kamagua is Kip Tralwskip (25,58). Kamagua on an island of its own off to the west, but there's a lift that will take you over from the shore.
Borean Tundra
The Borean Tundra has two Alliance FPs and three neutral ones, for five in all.
- First off is Tomas Riverwell (59,68) in Valiance Keep, where the boat from Stormwind goes to.
- The other Alliance-specific flight master is the awesomely-named Kara Thricestar (57,20) at the Fizzcrank Airstrip, up the road north from Valiance.
- There are two dragon flight masters, working for the Kirin Tor. The first one, named Surristrasz (45,34) is at the Amber Ledge; Amber Ledge is the only way to get to the Transitus Shield at first.
- Once you get to the Transitus Shield, Warmage Adami (33,34) will fly you back and forth.
- Bilko Drifstpark, at the Tuskarr village of Unu'pe, will get you where you need to go, Horde or Alliance. He's not particular. Unu'pe is on the east coast of the Tundra.
And there you have it, the nine flight points available to Alliance players in the two starting zones. Sure beats two proper FPs in Hellfire (and a few quest-related ones).
However, what if you want to fly between BT and HF? Sure, turtle boats are nice, but sometimes you want to be able to AFK while you travel, right? Well, there are no direct flight paths between BT and HF, but there is the Dragonblight sitting between them, and some connecting flights through that.
Dragonblight
The Dragonblight is for levels 71-74, so it shouldn't be too hard to get into it. It has three Alliance and two neutral flight points.
- Cid Flounderfix (47,66) is a neutral flight master at the Tuskarr Mo'aki Harbor on the south coast.
- Derek Rammel (40,26) flies out of Fordragon Hold in northwest Dragonblight.
- Nethestrasz, of the Wyrmcrest Accord, resides in the Wyrmcrest Temple smack in the middle of the zone (60,51).
- Palena Silvercloud is the first hippogryph master I've noticed in Northrend thus far. She can be found at (29,55) in Stars' Rest.
- Rodney Wells (77,50) is in Wintergarde Keep in the east of the zone, towards Naxxramas.
And finally, here's a summary map of all the Alliance flight paths in lower Northrend:

- Valiance Keep (Borean Tundra)
- Stars' Rest (Dragonblight)
- Wintergarde Keep (Dragonblight)
- Westguard Keep (Howling Fjord)
- Valgarde (Howling Fjod)

Just few more minutes before I'll go to my local Gamestop and pick-up my copy.
Waiting so eagerly.

The first thing I'm doing at launch is linking both starting zones with Dalaran. I can't wait for the Horde guide.

The Ancient Lift is pretty darned cool, even if the mechanics of it don't work exactly how they look. And bonus: When you fly out of certain flight points, you end up on unusual taxis. :)

Nice!!!

Hopefully the Horde will get their rendition tomorrow or Friday :-) and once again we can fly circles around them.

Isn't there an Explorer's League FP in the south-eastern part of HF?

Quick question; after looking at the new Horde FP's just posted... why do they (Horde) have (2) more Fraction specific FP's = 10 to 8 = Alliance???

I don't think your "necessary" flight point list for flying from Borean Tundra to Howling Fjord is correct. I was able to make the trip without having Star's Rest. In fact, I'm pretty sure that you can get there with just the two main ones on each end and all of the ones on teh "turtle" path. At least, that is how I got there with my warrior in Beta.
Marmouchon Nov 16th 2008 7:43PM
I confirm the "turtlte" ones and the main ones are enougth for the trip.

bonus points to blizzard for naming two NPCs with battlestar galactica connections. : )

The easiest flight path is Valiance to Unu'pe to Kamagua to Westguard to Valgard. THat keeps you furthest south and does not requre very much running inland to get to flight points.

I don't judge your "needful" embellish contact identify for aviation from Borean Tundra to Shouting Fiord is precise. I was competent to pretend the catch without having Principal's Interruption. In fact, I'm pretty trusty that you can get there with retributory the two principal ones on apiece end and all of the ones on teh "turtle" track. At minimal, that is how I got there with my warrior in Chenopodiaceae.

I don't justice your "necessary" amend striking set for accumulation from Borean Tundra to Call Fiord is hairsplitting. I was efficient to play the hurt without having Educator's Break. In fact, I'm pretty trusty that you can get there with retributory the two thespian ones on apiece end and all of the ones on teh "turtle" course. At borderline, that is how I got there with my warrior in Chenopodiaceae.
