Many free transfers for Europe
An extravaganza of free character moves has just been made available for various European realms:
- Al'Akir -> Bladefist
- Burning Legion -> Chromaggus
- Frostmane -> Laughing Skull
- Grim Batol -> Genjuros
- Kazzak -> Karazhan
- Magtheridon -> Emeriss
- Neptulon -> Shattered Halls
- Outland -> Auchindoun
- Ravencrest -> Spinebreaker
- Stormreaver -> Burning Blade
- Stormscale -> Boulderfirst
- Sylvanas -> Jaedenar
- Twilight's Hammer -> Vek'nilash
- Argent Dawn -> Darkmoon Faire
They will be open from today, the 13th, until Wednesday, November 18th.
This is really not your typical character transfer here. Usually there's a group of source realms with one destination realms, sometimes two. I'm not sure I've ever seen something like this: 14 source realms with 14 different destination realms. This may have to do with the more fractured situation in Europe – with four realm types (PvE, PvP, RP, RP-PvP), five languages, and I'm not sure how many time zones, I can see how it might take some juggling to keep moves within one category. As always, if you do want to switch, you're advised to do it early, because transfers can be closed if the realms meet their desired populations early.
Edit: I see that all of these realms are English and CEST (thanks, Sethox). No clue why they're so fragmented, then.

It's needed I'm sure. I got home and had a queue on a realm that has never even been a high population realm.

Good thing you have some then isnt it :)
With the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, we’ve seen a very active and growing population for many realms. As we continue to see players actively participating in the new expansion, we are keeping a watchful eye on any resulting queues from high realm populations. In order to better facilitate communication in regard to possible opportunities for realm transfers for these realms , we have created this post to contain information on any available realm transfers. We will update this post as any new transfers become available.
In the event that these realms meet our transfer goals before the scheduled end date, the transfers to that realm will be disabled. We highly recommend that if you are planning to transfer that you do so at your earliest convenience. No characters will be eligible for these free moves once the transfers have been closed.
Once the transfers open you can begin your transfer by visiting the Character Move page located here: https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/character-move.html

Wow... I can't believe I'm in a 13 min queue in Ner'Zhul.
I mean it was a populated server but I never got a queue before.
I wonder if everyone I know is gonna jump ship once they get a chance.

I'm on US Mok'Nathal, and I thought we were pretty much dead, but now that Wrath has hit I no longer feel that way XD
Sethox Nov 13th 2008 8:54PM
The reasoning why they are so fragmented is because they don't want to make a new realm for transfers (like what us did) instead they are just transferring to low pop realms (We have a lot of them over on EU) so they don't want to flood a low pop realm with transfers and the increase in people with people coming back for wrath.

Those realms have experienced extreme queues today that hit 4 digits and grew to three hours in some cases. Also, at least some of them have only recently completed a round of more traditional free transfers with more than one destination realm. I think this is a stop-gap measure to provide some fast relief to those problems. All of these realms are PvP realms, which happen to be much more inequal in terms of population than PvE ones in Europe, and only one pairing is of PvP-RP servers. I think they just picked the realms with the longest queues and found one suitable partner for each without to many qualms. If it will help is another matter - the destination servers tend to be close to atrophy and provide a poor game experience in many respects, so people are extremely reluctant to migrate there. I believe that US realms are generally considerably bigger than their European equivalents, which might alleviate this somewhat, even smaller servers providing viable communites.

Some of the transfers available are quite odd, in particular the Magtheridon --> Emeriss option. Both Magtheridon and Emeriss are notoriously unbalance with the Horde outnumbering Alliance on those realms by a ratio of 3:1 or more. Why Blizzard chose to open transfers from one server with a overwhelming Horde majority to another with the same issues and not to open up transfers from an Alliance heavy server to a Horde heavy one is uncertain.
For the record both Magtheridon and Emeriss were listed on Warcraftrealms.net last week as having Horde % of total server population in excess of 90% - I would say for both that this seems inaccurate with the figure being closer to 75-85% Horde on each.

more ppl to LS!!

I don't know about the other realms but i do know that on Maggy the alliance aren't happy with the amount of horde and it's the same on ym realm Emeriss, so some of these mayb be aimed at factional balance. It is ridiculous on Emeriss atm with the amount of horde compared to alliance.
