Ask a Wrath Player: From the ashes

We're definitely here to stay, though. We're going to continue using the Q&A format for AAWP or AABT or AAGoGS or AASS or whatever bizarre acronym we end up with, so if you have any questions about Wrath or even the game in general, please ask! We have a very diverse crew here at WoW Insider, so if there's something I don't know personally, there's a big team I can ask. We don't have a lot of questions to answer from yesterday because everyone was busy partying hard to celebrate (mourn?) the end of AABT, but we'll answer what we have
Brill asked...
Is there a macro I can use to summon a random mount/noncombat pet no matter how many I have? I already know /castrandom (item names), but eventually you'll run out of room in your macro and some will be left out.
Unfortunately, I'm terrible with figuring out macros. Fortunately, we have some fantastic folk that read the site. Chris Anthony has the answer you're looking for:
/run c=GetNumCompanions("CRITTER");n=math.random(c);CallCompanion("CRITTER",n);
Replace both instances of the word "CRITTER" with "MOUNT" and it will summon a random mount instead of a random pet. Voila!
mizatt asked...
What ever happened with the ability to switch quickly between two specs? Is that implemented in the expansion? Or is that something they're going to patch into the game later?
That didn't make it in for Wrath of the Lich King's launch, but it is something that's still coming our way, and something I'm personally looking forward to. The most recent information we've heard about dual specs is that it will hopefully be made available in patch 3.1, Wrath's first full content patch. We haven't heard any super recent information about that, but it's probably our best bet right now.
And that's really all we have today! I know you have questions though, so ask them in the comments section below and we'll be here to answer. Like before, if we have a massive amount of questions in one day we may not be able to get to them all the very next day, but we'll certainly do our best to get to them all eventually.

Save some chars by converting that to:
/dismount [mounted]
/run local t if IsFlyableArea() then t={a,b,c,d} else t={e,f,g,h} end CallCompanion("MOUNT",t[random(#t)])
Chris Anthony Nov 14th 2008 10:24PM
The trouble with that, Gnosh, is that the first line doesn't end the macro properly. With your version, if you're mounted, you'll dismount and immediately start mounting up again.

My vote is for Ask Somebody Something, if only for the acronym!
Refresh Nov 14th 2008 1:21PM
I second that vote.

are there new riding crops at lvl 80?
Ted Nov 14th 2008 1:27PM
Nope, they are phased out of the game, never to return.
Cysgodi Nov 14th 2008 1:34PM
No, they've done away with items that increase mount speed entirely from 71 to 80. The Devs have stated that they don't want people to have to waste a trinket slot for items like that.
Originally, they just changed the trinkets so that you could apply them to your mount and your mount would permanently gain +x% speed, but it actually used up the Riding Crop/Carrot on a Stick/Skybreaker Whip (meaning once you applied it to a mount it was gone). That meant that you would have to buy a separate Riding Crop for every mount that you wanted to add the speed boost to. Due to the amount of money that that would cost, they just scrapped speed boost items entirely.
Last I heard, they were brainstorming to find a different way to apply the speed boost that wouldn't be costly and wouldn't take up a trinket slot.

TBC saw a rise in the necessity of Hit Rating. Is Hit as important in Wrath? I ask because Hit isn't nearly as fun as Attack/Spell Power or Crit rating.
Cysgodi Nov 14th 2008 1:38PM
Hit will always be an important stat since it negates the chance that you'll miss your target. Capping your Hit rating is one of the biggest DPS boosts you can give yourself.
Hit Caps at 80:
Spellcasting - 634
Melee (Two-Handers) - 296
Melee (Dual-Wielding) - 918
Obviously these can be modified based on talents.

I hate cluttering my addon folder. I try to go minimalist in that area, so I prefer macros. Right now I'm using a /castrandom mountname, mountname, mountname where mount name is the name of the spell for the mount. Very space consuming.
I'd love to be able to select a random epic mount and just leave my 12 slow mounts to collect dust via a macro.

So anybody else disappointed with the way Blizzard launched Wrath? With Burning Crusade, there was an attack on the portal in the Blasted lands...Doom Lord Kazzak randomly spawning in eastern plaguelands and beyond. There was a reason to go to the portal on launch day and join your friends assulting the portal.
Nothing for Wrath. There was the really cool zombie invasion that fizzled out because of people whining. There was the potential for coolness with Thrall loosing to Grom Hellscream, and the frostwyrm and Abomination attacks, but that went no where.
Kinda feels like it was rushed with none of the usual story we are used to from Blizzard.
Why should I go to Northrend and pick up 10 more levels? Where is the epic draw? Where are the cities laid to waste by Arhtas...my reason to storm to the great white north?

AAGoGS? Ask a Girl-on-Girl Sex?
Evi Nov 14th 2008 1:34PM
Do you have any recent word on the new dances we were supposed to get? I heard it was postponed, but I'd like to know if you have any new information. Thanks!
Flashalas Nov 14th 2008 1:34PM
Being hit capped will always be important in terms of DPS. I can't see the math formulas changing, only scaling upward.
Ashkente Nov 14th 2008 1:38PM
I'd like to know more about how the repuation in Northrend works. Should I be instance-crawling to honored and then do quests or something in that order? What is the deal with the rep-gaining tabards?
Shrike Nov 14th 2008 3:52PM
You don't gain rep from instance running. Most rep is gained purely from questing and dailies, and any additional rep from instances can be gained for one of the four factions available for Championing, while wearing their tabard in a level 80 dungeon.
Xioyn Nov 14th 2008 1:43PM
Out of the New Proffessions what do you suggest for a Feral Druid?
Cysgodi Nov 14th 2008 1:51PM
It depends on what your goal is. If you want to make money, take Skinning and either Herbalism or Mining and sell the materials that you collect on the Auction House. If you want to make armor for yourself, Skinning and Leatherworking would be a good choice. If you want to be able to make your own Glyphs, then Inscription and Herbalism is probably your best bet.

Can you put up a gallery, or post a link to a gallery, with the new hairstyles available to all the races?
