Ask a Wrath Player: From the ashes

We're definitely here to stay, though. We're going to continue using the Q&A format for AAWP or AABT or AAGoGS or AASS or whatever bizarre acronym we end up with, so if you have any questions about Wrath or even the game in general, please ask! We have a very diverse crew here at WoW Insider, so if there's something I don't know personally, there's a big team I can ask. We don't have a lot of questions to answer from yesterday because everyone was busy partying hard to celebrate (mourn?) the end of AABT, but we'll answer what we have
Brill asked...
Is there a macro I can use to summon a random mount/noncombat pet no matter how many I have? I already know /castrandom (item names), but eventually you'll run out of room in your macro and some will be left out.
Unfortunately, I'm terrible with figuring out macros. Fortunately, we have some fantastic folk that read the site. Chris Anthony has the answer you're looking for:
/run c=GetNumCompanions("CRITTER");n=math.random(c);CallCompanion("CRITTER",n);
Replace both instances of the word "CRITTER" with "MOUNT" and it will summon a random mount instead of a random pet. Voila!
mizatt asked...
What ever happened with the ability to switch quickly between two specs? Is that implemented in the expansion? Or is that something they're going to patch into the game later?
That didn't make it in for Wrath of the Lich King's launch, but it is something that's still coming our way, and something I'm personally looking forward to. The most recent information we've heard about dual specs is that it will hopefully be made available in patch 3.1, Wrath's first full content patch. We haven't heard any super recent information about that, but it's probably our best bet right now.
And that's really all we have today! I know you have questions though, so ask them in the comments section below and we'll be here to answer. Like before, if we have a massive amount of questions in one day we may not be able to get to them all the very next day, but we'll certainly do our best to get to them all eventually.

Something that everyone wants to know is how to get the mage teleport and portal spells. I looked on wowhead and did some exploring to get the teleport one, but none my mage friends knew how (and myself either before). They should really have the mage trainer point you to get the spells since dalaran is such an important part of northrend.

Upon hitting 71, a mage can travel to Dragonblight (Star's Rest for Alliance and Agmar's Hammer for Horde) and put up the quest Attunement to Dalaran. I'm fairly sure that upon hitting 74 you can simply learn the portal spell from the trainer in Dalaran (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I've read a lot about the Death Knight class but I haven't seen yet (or I have and can't remember it) which of the different talent trees is best for what roles.
Which is best for tanking? DPS? caster? etc.
I know they're all suppose to be viable for everything but each tree should do something better than the others.
Thanks

Is there a place in northrend like the dead mire in outland? With lots of beasties that can be herbalized after death?
Airwalk Nov 14th 2008 11:15PM
I hope they just keep Re-specing the way it is.

Ok, after really enjoying the Death Knight starting experience... to the point that I couldn't care to play my main, or to hit outland really, I was severely let down.
Apparently the epic Light's Chapel battle is on a timer, and I arrived after the Lich King. I have the strategy guide and read about what happens, and I know that he shows up at the end... so I missed the 'coolest, biggest and most epic battle seen' says my friend that actually took part in it.
I love Blizzard, but I feel ripped off here, because in order to see it again, I'd have to delete my DK and start over again. And what happens if it happens again?
My question is, is there any way I can see it again? Or if I do delete and start over, any way I can ensure I see it?

You are phased out of that battle. Delete and reroll.
Kylenne Nov 15th 2008 1:27PM
The same thing happened with a guildie and I last night when we did it. All we had to do was abandon the final quest, go back to grab it again, and then hang around the quest giver for a few minutes. It reset in about 5 minutes. Definitely worth the wait too, it was incredible.
Artemizz Nov 16th 2008 4:30PM
Thanks... as much as I hate to... I'll have to delete my 60 DK and do it again. I just really want to see that fight.
Artemizz Nov 17th 2008 12:13AM
So I deleted and re-rolled... I'm there again, and when I accept the quest from the Lich King, it says 9600-187 for the forces... so it's already over. I know there's another quest from a guy on a skeletal gryphon, halfway between the lich king and the battle... did you mean to abandon that quest and wait, or abandon the one from the lich king and wait?

This may be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. I've noticed a plethora of plate armor as quest rewards, but none of it has tanking stats. Where's the love for the meat shields? Do I have to instance my way through Northrend in Retadin gear?

I have a question about buying WotLK:
Is it possible to buy the cd-key to Blizzard and download the xpac from their site?
Hauno Nov 15th 2008 9:20AM
For the new column title, how about simply "Ask an Insider" ?

Are there any plans to implement more incentives to do world pvp? I think it would fairly easy to create a "city defender scheme" where players could que up to "defend" a city and if that city should be attacked by another player then they could be ported nearby. More players could be ported depending on how many attacked it, throw in some badges or rewards of some kind and world pvp exists. Then again im no game developer. I just enjoy world pvp and wrath has reminded me why I enjoy it so much.
