Breakfast Topic: What Northrend zone did you begin in and why?

After the Midnight Launch, I rushed home with my precious Collector's Edition, installed, patched and made a Death Knight. I'm not ready to play my DK yet, but I wanted to reserve the name and get her resting. Then I put my druid on a zeppelin and went to Northrend.
I didn't research the best starting zone for my class. I didn't even think about where the zeppelin might be taking me. I just randomly chose the Undercity portal from Shattrath and went from there. So here I am in the Howling Fjord. From a Tauren perspective, I'm not sure how I feel about doing chores for the Forsaken. Ah well, we're all in this together, right?
Where did you begin your Northrend questing? Did you research your decision, choose randomly or follow the pack?

So far I've only taken my Pally to Northrend, and I went to the Tundra with him. I would've gone to Vengeance landing, but I wanna go there on my Undead Rogue, suitably. I'll end up getting the best of both zones, so no reason to complain =)

I started in Howling Fjord-2 Reasons.
1-it has a Fjord
2-The music...wow just wow.. :)
Ilem Nov 14th 2008 9:35AM
The music that's playing throughout most of HF is really beautiful. Looped, it reminds me of Brian Eno's variations on Pachelbel's "Canon in D Major". As an Eno fan, that's just right! :)
The (longer than expected) boat ride through the fjord before docking at Valgarde was beautiful, and the zone's so much more fun to start in than Hellfire Peninsula was, because there are so many different settlements with different objectives to flavor the quest lines. Just love it.

Yes, the music in HF (the starting encampment at least) is breathtaking!

I would have done the same thing for the same reasons... but I couldn't log in all night :(.

After getting all my professions set up in both starting zones. I started questing in Borean Tundra. As a skinner it was a veritable gold mine with the buggies outside of the hold. Im already maxed out on skinning.

I chose Howling Fjord because i knew it would be less populated than Borean Tundra. Now that i've finished Howling Fjord, i've moved over to the Tundra to find so much population its difficult to finish many quests.

most Horde is in Fjord,
most Alliance is in Tundra
I'm Horde, so I went Fjord, not realizing that on Emeriss EU Horde : Alliance ratio is over 4 : 1 .
Guildies and friends who started in Tundra are on average 1 lvl higher :/ still I enjoyed Fjord so much I don't regret starting there.

I went to the Borean Tundra from Stormwind without any expectations at all, it was just the fastest way to go to Northrend at the moment.
Im thinking about reaching lvl 71 then moving to the Howling Fjord to start anew on that zone. That way I can start on lvl 70 missions thus making it faster for me to level up while questing.

I hoped on the Zepplin to Howling Fjord, and then preceded to log off, and make a Death Knight...But I plan to switch between Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra so I can get all the walrus guy rep I can get. And in the middle of that, trying to figure out how to make some gold...so yeah, it's a tough life
Percinho Nov 14th 2008 10:20AM
Same here, it's all about the Walrus rep for me becuase I want that fishing pole!
Blondy Nov 14th 2008 8:09AM
I've got northrend about 70 percent discovered at level 71. I have done the starting quests in both zones as well to see which I liked better. Honestly, I like the fjord better

I went for Howling Fjord.
I heard that there were dr00ds in Borean Tundra that attacked you if you'd killed an animal recently. Being a skinner (and 450 since yesterday) I didn't wanna mess with the DETHA
aphextwin07 Nov 14th 2008 8:14AM
i hit the fjord but horde were everywhere in the zone. couldn't even get many quests accomplished.

Most people alliance side that I know of went to borean tundra, so i'm kind of glad that I went to Howling Fjord.
I leveled through there on the beta and really enjoyed the zone.

Still don't have WotLK yet but I think I might go to the Howling Fjord. Is that the zone that starts Alliance version of that Forsaken quest, that ends you off with a cutscene?
Unami Nov 14th 2008 8:14AM
Howling Fjord, because we'd started there once before in beta, and it's absolutely beautiful.
Gothia Nov 14th 2008 8:15AM
I picked Howling Fjord because I figured that there would be less activity from UC than ORG on my already full server. Of course it was pretty much cut throat at Howling Fjord and I never realized how full my server was when I tried to log in later today to an over 500 person queue. Not a bad job by Blizzard implementing the expansion on Silvermoon. Some lag, but no server drops when I was on and it was an unexpected breath of fresh air since the mail fiasco earlier this week.

Howling Fjord.
It has Vikings.
