Phat Loot Phriday: Sawed-off Hand Cannon

A brand new continent, full of new loot to get. We'll start off with this rep piece -- if you're Alliance and need a ranged weapon and a rep to grind, Vanguard is a good place to start.
Name: Sawed-off Hand Cannon (Wowhead, Thottbot, Allakazham)
Type: Rare Gun
Damage/Speed: 208-386 / 3.10 (95.8 DPS)
Abilities:
Name: Sawed-off Hand Cannon (Wowhead, Thottbot, Allakazham)
Type: Rare Gun
Damage/Speed: 208-386 / 3.10 (95.8 DPS)
Abilities:
- +17 Agility, +27 Stamina. Not too shabby at all.
- And it even gives you +18 hit rating, which is extra nice (by 78 you've hopefully already reached your hit cap, whatever that is, but putting it on the gun and off of your other gear will allow for a little more flexibility. It's an all-round good gun on your way up to 80 -- there will certainly be better but for the rep, which you'll probably get sleepwalking through Howling Fjord, it's a new reward.
How to get it: This is rep reward, which means you've got to hit revered with the Alliance Vanguard, and then it's purchaseable from the quartermasters of the faction, one in Howling Fjord's Valguarde, and another in Borean Tundra's Valiance Keep. To rep up with the Vanguard, you can do quests for them (which is why we're telling you about this now), and later in the game, you should be able to either champion their tabard, or pick up rep from instance runs (possibly Utgarde Keep Heroics, but we're not quite sure about that). At any rate, do all the quests you can find in the starting area, and Revered won't be too far off. Once you've got the rep you can get the gun for 46g 61s 1c, pocket change at the level.
And yes, Horde, this weapon is Alliance only, but the Horde Expedition have a bow as a rep reward that is almost identical. So if you need a ranged weapon with a nice bit of Agility and Stamina on it, there's one rep to work towards.
Getting rid of it: You likely will within the first few raids at 80, but until then it'll give you a nice foundation to begin building up your endgame gear (plus, look how huge it is). Vendors will buy it back for 9g 32s 20c, or it'll disenchant into a dream shard.
Finally today, a request. There's a whole new continent of new stuff out there -- what kinds of things do you want to see in this space in the next few weeks? Northrend newbie items, rep items that you can start working on now (like this one), Northrend endgame items, quest rewards in between 70 and 80? We're happy to spotlight a piece of loot every week, but if you have suggestions on what we should look for (or find some cool lot that deserves a spotlight), let us know in the comments below. Thanks!

I would like to see some easy to get blues for leveling either quest or rep and to some extent instance drops as well.

Yeah - good leveling gear would be great, and what its an upgrade to, that sort of thing. I hate figuring that sort of stuff out :)

Thirded. If that's a word.

I would like to see some items I can start working towards now, whether they be at the end of a long quest chain, rep items, or profession made.
Also, I love this column, it's always good fun.

newbie and death knight items.

I'd personally like to see boe, rep, and 10 man raid items. This particular article is a good one.

I'd like a series on good lvl 80 dungeon blues that are uniquely interesting. I remember things from BC like the Nexus Horn from Arc that were really neat.
Oh, and the lvl 73 engineering made BOE gun is a lot better than that alliance rep one, and the mats are pretty much dirt cheap.

Don't you mean BOP? They changed it. Now it's for hunter and warrior engineers mainly. :P

Whatever's really powerful, really goofy, really rare, or, ideally, all three.
Okay, this one is really goofy, but in the "why-am-I-using-a-Kmart-Nerf-gun-again" sense more than "laughing my butt off". Not really a complaint; column's always worth a look.
Intended to suggest http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6366 before Wrath but silly now with fun new stuff. Didn't know it existed and was shocked when my bank alt yanked it out of SW.

Reached the hit cap at 78?! You realise it's 266 hit rating to become capped at that level right?

i'd like to see some good items for leveling death knights through outland

I'd like to see some nice class specific quest items. This is great for hunters, what other things are there for hunters to aim for while leveling towards 80 to make the journey a bit easier?

Cover rep gear/rewards please.

I think it would be cool if you had different sections dedicated to separate aspects of the game, regarding phat loot. "This Week in Rep," or "This Week in PvE," etc.

ARGHH long queues. 320 minute wait. This sucks I haven't even seen WotLK yet. I just back from being out of town on a business trip.

I'd love to see some nice bows as quest/rep rewards/whatever for the Alliance. Not crossbows. Not guns. Bows.

You know, I've got a Nelf BM hunter alt, and I felt much the same way; I would never use guns, they offend my elven sensibilities, the noise would get on my nerves, etc. Then Precisely Calibrated Boomstick happened to drop off trash in ZF. Being the Evil Dead nerd that I am, I just had to try it despite my loathing for guns. I got an engineering guildie to make a nice scope and that was all she wrote. There's just something hilariously satisfying about watching my slender elf chick blow the crap out of things with a shotgun, and the sound effects tickle me. When the zombie invasion rolled around? Oh my god was it worth it. My BF could hardly pull me away from busting caps in zombies in Goldshire to go level. "Uh, Jill Valentine, that's enough," he'd say.
I finally retired it with a quest reward crossbow in Outland, and I missed it within minutes. Then a guildie got another epic world drop gun, and now it's awaiting me at 70 in my bank. XD

Ah, the good ol' Core Marksman Rifle model. I always wanted to make that gun on my engineer dorf hunter, but of course never got the chance to loot the schematic for it...
Coolest-looking gun in the game pretty much. Too bad it's so slow that it's practically no good for beastmaster hunters. :(
