For a "razing" done right you just need go back and look at the destruction of the town Arwic from Asheron's Call. Back in the day Arwic was the central hub of travel. Populated by bank alts, money sellers, portal bots, etc... Durning one event Turbine had the town destroyed by a shaodw spire. All that was left was a crater for a year or more.

For the final event. What could of been really cool is letting people operate vehicles to fight the scourge attack. You had a refurbished steam tank there at Stormwind and there was access to a griffon for bomb missions.
