They need to dynamically change the game in the old world. Destroy towns, change the world, mess it up. Make players who might level an alt go "Woah, this whole area has changed."The problem is Blizzard ignores all the old parts of the theme park and just keeps adding new parts. At some point you have to alter the old parts and update them, otherwise, you have a stagnant world with no advancing story.

I absolutely agree. The hardest thing to take about the World of Warcraft is how absolutely static it is (except for the high level content which gets added to). I've been reading through these posts and agree for the most part that the idea of the world event was good but the execution was off. Someone early posted what they thought a better timeline would have been that stretched it out over several weeks. I think it should have gone farther and played out over several months. I would like to see change happening continuously. Most of the changes would be extremely subtle but each one builds on the ones before so that after months have gone by you say "wow, this is really different," but didn't even notice along the way. For a little while I thought that might have been happening.Back when they did the patch that gave level 30s their mounts, I took my Draenei priest (lvl 36) back to Exodar to get it, and I noticed when the boat came back into the Wetlands on my return that it was raining harder than I've ever seen it rain before, with thunder and lightning and rain so hard it almost obscured vision.These are the sorts of changes that you might notice and think, "wow, it's sure raining hard," but not really think of anything deep or world changing. But if this was part of a gradual change where week by week the weather got a little worse, where at some point you were thinking to yourself, "I don't remember it always being so rainy," that would be really interesting.Then punctuate these gradual changes with a very occassional dramatic even that throws change in your face. Like the Dark Irons blowing the dam, Loch Modan draining out into the Wetlands making a permanent lake there and leaving a swampy marsh behind. Or the plague gaining a permanent foothold in some of the permanent settlements with "Travelor's Advisories" recommending against travel to certain locations, disruptions to the normal flightpaths because a key node is gone due to plague, villages deserted and now populated with plague stricken zombies.All of these should be a continuing affair, not linked directly to a major expansion but they could easily be tied in, and used to forshadow coming events that may be months or even years down the line.
