Breakfast Topics: Is the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth worth it?

The mount is starting to show up on live realms today. Some folks that have very deep pockets are picking them up for the maximum cost. Reactions are mixed. Most people will target the mount, look through the vendors, and some will ask to get on it for a quick ride. Others will /point /laugh.
The vendors on the mount are both a reagent vendor and a food / general goods vendor. The reagent vendor allows you to repair on the fly, the food / general vendor lets you pickup food and water when ever you need it, and both allow you to sell stuff on a whim. The general vendor also has unlimited arrows and bullets.
It's very nice for leveling in some ways, and will be quite nice for raiding in that you'll always have someplace close with reagents and other essentials.
But is it worth it?
At 20,000g the price tag is pretty darn steep. But personally, I think the mount is worth every copper. I'll be dualboxing alts again soon enough. Being able to have this to carry my alts around and provide quick reagents and vendors will really help cut down on my travel time.
So what do you think? Gonna buy one of these mammoth mounts?

If I had the gold, I'd definitely buy one, but I don't see that happening soon.
The ability to repair & sell off junk anywhere is fantastic!

Absolutely I will buy one, probably at full price too. I had 17k gold before wrath launched, but I got greedy and bought a lot of mounts for the albino drake achievement.
c'est la vie, I'll have one soon enough and be the first in my guild to own one :)

let us not forget that you can not summon a mount in most raids/instances.
Izbay Nov 15th 2008 11:42AM
Hell no not buying it because it takes an extra second to mount with the jumping onto the back animation, but the real kicker is the second wait to dismount if you're being beat on.

Same here.

I'll get it at exalted, I had 10k at the end of BC and I imagine that getting the rest will take no time.

It's amazingly cool. I will get one, and then offer lowbies candy if the hop on...
Josh Nov 15th 2008 7:18AM
this cannot be used outside of northrend fyi. wont be much rides except in delanar and i doubt there will be many lowbies with out mounts there.
Radiophonic Nov 15th 2008 7:21AM
@Josh
BRK's vid shows him in Ironforge with his. Explain? Besides, for 20k you bet your ass Bliz will allow it anywhere.
Azhariel Nov 15th 2008 7:26AM
Furthermore, it doesn't fly.. So far so good.
Adam Holisky Nov 15th 2008 7:36AM
Hi Josh,
I just tested this. It can be used anywhere. Was able to mount up and ride around IF on it.
Best,
Adam.

Actually brings up a good point. You bring a lowbie in to northrend for sight seeing and have them hop on the back. I gotta wonder if they get attacked or if the aggro range is just based on you.

Azhariel,
What do you mean "it doesn't fly"? Blizz added siege engines with this xpac. All ya gotta do is buy one of these for 20k, a trebuchet for, say, another 10k, and voila! Flying mammoth!
Healabit Dec 12th 2008 8:56AM
When a lowbie is riding along, things aggro based on their lvl, not the mammoth owners. Your passenger can easily be knocked off and squished before you even notice. So giving them a ride while multi-boxing your alt and riding through areas where they have quests or get good xp is fine, but taking them for a ride thru Northrend is not gonna happen easily :P
Shaun Nov 15th 2008 7:11AM
A few people in my guild on Executus already have one :P
Mike Nov 15th 2008 7:17AM
I suppose if you have all the gear, gems, and enchants that money can buy, and still have an extra 15-20k gold lying around you might as well buy it. If I were in that situation, and already had everything that was actually worth having I'd probably just quit the game.
Lockish Nov 15th 2008 7:18AM
Hell yeah!
I will farm the sh!t and do all my dailys to get it.
Flutterby Nov 15th 2008 7:21AM
My leveling partner has one and I've been enjoying being able to pop on and off very quickly on quests that we both get credit for kills/other things. Plus.. I'm a lootbug and pick up everything and being able to vendor all the stuff without having to run back to a town.
Personally if I had a ton of gold to blow I'd totally get one. But sadly I don't even have half of the required gold. I know this would be golden for leveling alts if you have multiple accounts as well. :)

Yes!!! You have no idea how many time the other hunter in a group forgot their arrows, or how many times someone's weap has broken in the middle of a raid or instance. And now you won't even need a lock to summon you back to a raid if you need to hearth to repair...i just hope someone else in my raids has this, so i won't have to =)

I bought it at 71, and my experiences with it are mixed. It's a great eye-turner that's for sure. And the vendors are wonderful. I am already so used to having repairs and reagents everywhere, I find myself looking for them on my alts now.
Now to the bad thing: This mount uses the new vehicle system. I don't know the teqnique behind it, but it means the server now has to send and recieve a packet before you can actually mount up. It means there is a slight break every time you mount and dismount. This is very annoying, as you can't just mount up and start running. You now have to wait for cast to complete, then wait .5 sec. This is extremly annoying, and I very much hope it will be fixed.
But yeah, it's a huge ass mammoth with vendors. I still love it.
