Breakfast Topic: What did you level first?
Our topic for today comes from one of our readers, Grindal. He (she? Sorry!) wrote in suggesting we ask all of you a question. What did you level first? Did you level your main right away? Did you try out an alt in Northrend? Did you roll a Death Knight? Heck, is your new Death Knight your new main?Personally, I went straight to my main. No questions about it. I hit the Howling Fjord and started questing like crazy. Eventually I rolled my Death Knight with the name I had been reserving for months now, but I didn't really play it at all. I just wanted to start accumulating rest. That's about all I did on all of my alts, actually. I made sure my 70s were in inns. That's it. Beyond that, it's been all Shadow Priest all the time. I was lucky in that I got into Northrend a little bit ahead of the crowds, so I'm usually a zone ahead of most people. I just finished the Dragonblight last night just as the masses rolled in, and now I have the Grizzly Hills more or less to myself. Once people start flooding that zone, I'll be over in Zul'Drak.
How are things going for all of you?

How does your PC not play Wrath if it can play BC?
Krick Nov 16th 2008 1:55PM
I have an overclocked Pentium M @ 2.2 GHz running in a desktop motherboard with a GeForce 7600GS. My PC could run TBC fine at 1280x1024 most of the settings maxed. Then, when the patch came out with the changes to the sound system, the the frame rates started to dip and I had to click some things back a notch to keep it playable. Then with the latest patches leading up to WotLK, everything went south fast. Now in order to get reasonable framerates, I turn all the settings down to the minimum except draw distance, which I keep in the middle. So, needless to say, I'm currently building a completely new PC just to play WotLK.

only just got wrath yesterday and have been levelling my main. done about a level and a half and im enjoying the scenery of Howling Fjord, its absolutely beautiful!

I leveled my main to a 71 but with all the ninjas around I parked her there in the inn. I got a little curious so I rolled a DK which questing wasn't nearly as bad as folks in Northrend with the ninjaing so I have continued playing her. She just got finished with all the starter quests and has made her wall to Hellfire, which currently is crawling with DK's, LOLOL.

Ninjas? Really?
Everyone and his grandmother is in Northrend (or outland if you are DK) looking for the same mobs for the same quests. How exactly do you want everyone to act?
Take a number and wait for your turn to kill a mob? Meanwhile number 12567 (and I'm number 12568) is reading up on the quest and trying to decide the right way to RP the encounter.
Sorry, I'm siding with the Ninjas on this one. Go for what you need. If someone else is standing around and misses it. It'll re-spawn soon enough.
Tyler Nov 16th 2008 9:04AM
It would be nice if they would take a number. The line isn't that long, why should someone else who was there first have to wait longer than someone who just arrived, because they're jerks?
moonwolf2879 Nov 16th 2008 9:12AM
I agree there, I would be there standing and waiting for a respawn and I'm casting wrath and some jerk comes up behind me and steals my kill. Yes that is a ninja who should have waited his turn.

Ninjas. Really.
There's nothing in the game that prevents it, nor should there be, FTR. Perfect example is the cannon ball gathering quest in the Fjord. There's maybe five of us spread out nicely fighting off the proto-drakes and what-not to clear out mobs around some of the cannon balls. All nice and civil, each pretty much standing on their chosen cannon ball. And some slimbag gnome mage runs in and grabs up the cannon balls while we're in combat.
So, several people called him out on it and there was much teasing and laughing at his expense. A few minutes later he's in general, qq'ing about being kicked from his quest group. Much more laughing and teasing ensues. Wish I'd asked for an invite. Sounds like a good group.
Hasn't really been much of a problem though. Bliz's respawn system seems to be working fairly well. I've never had to wait more than 30 seconds to a minute for pops, even with several dozen players in the area. In fact, at times they popped too fast! (Which was kinda fun, actually.) Okay, the turkeys don't spawn fast enough, but they're so much fun to kill... well...
There's plenty of idiots that will just "grab what ya need." No real consequences is awfully appealing sometimes. But there's a ton of nice and helpful players, as well. People that want to experience what Bliz has created, not just play a video game.
The rest... well... grab what ya want. And eventually you'll find yourself either a) playing with a bunch of other idiots, or b) finding your own balls and playing with yourself.

I've had a pretty nice experience on Eitrigg so far. People group up for kills when quest mobs don't spawn in high numbers and to complete other objectives when it makes sense. The only place I've come to hate in only an hour is Gjalerbron in Howling Fjord, where it's been a big, messy free for all.
Leveling my Night Elf hunter, because that's the only 70 I had. Easy choice there. :)
Llowe Nov 16th 2008 9:44AM
even split, death knight / main (in Howling Fjord)
Viper007Bond Nov 16th 2008 8:29AM
I love my Warlock main to death, so he's getting leveled. I doubt I'll ever level an alt all the way up. I just like my Warlock too much.
Fly Nov 16th 2008 8:32AM
I didn't buy wrath just yet. I usually play this game mainly with a bunch of RL friends, who all play more and level faster than me. Only one of those friends levels at the same rate as I, so we're just rerolling newbies for now. Gonna head off to Northrend with some of our lvl 70s in a month or so. We traded the frustration of having know-it-all "pros", from previous end-game, commanding us in Northrend for know-it-all freshmen in the lower lvl 20s telling us off for suggesting bringin a healer.
Sometimes I get confused about why pugging is such a large part of the game.. =)
MusedMoose Nov 16th 2008 8:35AM
Honestly, I'm such a casual player that WotLK and the recent patches haven't affected the way I play, except for getting Inscription for my rogue instead of Alchemy. Hell, it'll probably be time for the next expansion before I even see Northrend. *grin* However, I am leveling my rogue now in preparation for getting the Winter Veil achievements, 'cause "Merrymaker" is a great title for a rogue.
Moomoomoo Nov 16th 2008 8:37AM
I'm leveling my main, a mage, up first. Of course, I doubt I will get to 80 anytime soon
dotorion Nov 16th 2008 8:38AM
Been doing a bit of both.
My main isn't 71 yet, but I've been to Utgarde Keep and The Nexus.
My DK alt is 61 and queueing up for quest objectives in HFP.
I'm not gonna hit 80 fast with either of them, but I'll still have fun.
ROB13 Nov 16th 2008 8:57AM
There isn't a both?! Because for me, once I got Wrath, I went to my Death Knight and started leveling all night, then when I got out of the starting zone, I took my main and hoped on the zepplin to Howling Fjord. For one, it's beautiful, Blizz really did over hall the graphics and sound department. But one thing I don't like, after one run in Utgarde Keep, 15 quests and killing mobs just for the fun of it, I only got halfway through 70. So after some useless quest doing n' such, I usually get on at low hours to level my DK because at peak hours, I can't find one mob for myself
apoxic Nov 16th 2008 9:00AM
Just leveled my newly born shaman to max level!
.. Level 20 that is.
