Breakfast Topic: Is the ring worth it?
The spiffy Dalaran rings:Band of the Kirin TorAre they worth it?
Signet of the Kirin Tor
When I hit 80 it was the first thing I picked up. The powerful ability to teleport myself to a major city is, in my opinion, invaluable as I conquer the end game of Wrath of the Lich King. But after I right clicked to buy the 8,000g ring, I paused.
I felt a small twinge on the back of my head.
Was that the tingling of buyer's remorse? Did I just buy the Sega Dreamcast of rings?
Will my ring fade away to soon be vendored? No ring to control them all, and no ring to in the darkness bind them?
My hope is that it won't be. I'm keeping the ring in my bag, along with the necklace from Illidan's quest chain that I've had for the past 10 months. A port to Shadowmoon Valley will still be useful if I have to get to a capital city quickly. And then with the hearth stone set to where I want it, I have a total of three quick and easy portable locations for my lazy Warrior butt.
You voiced your opinions last week on the multi-person mammoth mount, so tell me – what do you think of this? Is a Dalaran ring worth the money?

"Did I just buy the Sega Dreamcast of rings?"
What the hell is that suppose to mean? The Sega Dreamcast was awesome. You sir, suck.
Twystid Nov 19th 2008 8:39AM
Cool your jets. He never said the ring wasn't awesome. Look at the stats!
He's just wondering if it'll become useless very quickly. Just like you refer to when you say it was awesome. It may have been great during its lifetime, but we're long past that point now.
Tigress74 Nov 19th 2008 8:31AM
I can see how it may be worth it to some. But to me its not really worth it. Not a big issue having my hearth set to Dalaran.
Trem Nov 19th 2008 8:34AM
Its an ilevel 200 ring, so if you plan to raid anything beyond Naxx, it will be replaced in a short while. I guess if you have money burning a hole in your pocket it is worth it, but I can't justify spending 8k on a convenience.
But I am a scribe so I have more than my hearthstone to rely on anyway.
Culhag Nov 19th 2008 8:40AM
I will not buy it.
Not worth the cost IMO.

"Did I just buy the Sega Dreamcast of rings?"
Sir, you made me laugh so hard that I almost entered in a phased reality... Damn, Thank you :)

so not worth it, the amount of instances that you can ghetto hearth out of in this game is endless, if all else fails just go and do something else while you wait for your hearth cooldown.
h8rain Nov 19th 2008 9:40AM
^-This
I keep forgetting to try this, but I got the remote from brewfest, and that is like kinda like a free ghetto hearth. If I have to go to old world for some reason (AH, training, etc), I always go to SW, so I can use Stockades for free hearth.

ya i was uncertainly about this....
now i guess i wont buy it
....i never liked crazy taxi anyways
BillDoor Nov 19th 2008 8:49AM
Worth it to me. It's an immediate DPS upgrade, but as you said, more importantly, it's a 3rd hearthstone. I'll set me Hearthstone to wherever I'm questing or doing dailies or whatever, and just ring back to Dalaran when I'm done.
Andrew Nov 19th 2008 12:23PM
I love my Dreamcast! :(
Anyhow... Its good to be a mage. :)
(I tried leveling my warrior alt and quit becuase i got lazy lol)

That's pretty much how I feel about buying WotLK in general. Not worth it, not going to waste my money on it. BC was a huge let down, so why bother? I'll be playing a little each week to have something to do until I get a better computer and can play one of the new MMOs out there, then it's bye bye Blizz. WotLK is their shark jump in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe WoW will continue to rein as king of the MMO, only time will tell. It sure has outlived it's fun for me and several of my RL friends. We're pretty well burned out on it I guess. But, really, if you're new to WoW you have to pay about $90 to get WoW, BC, and WotLK then pay $15/mo to even play it. I sure wouldn't have gotten addicted to it if I had to invest that kind of coin in the beginning. Good luck staying on top Blizz, you're gonna need it.
Bullethead Nov 19th 2008 9:50AM
I didn't say anything about poor people. You do realize there are people in the world who are lucky if they get to eat today and it has nothing to do with mistakes they've made right? Anyway, I said it is a waste of money. Would you have honestly invested $90 plus the monthly fee to start playing? My guess is no. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying or a fool.
Explode Nov 19th 2008 10:27AM
I don't know what you think is so good about the other MMO's but I don't think BC was a let down and I wouldn't say that Wrath is a let down (yet) So far what I have seen is a large change in the way quests are done lots of new ideas. Yes you will always have the go there kill that go there collect this but that will happen for any quest. The scenery looks amazing and the instances are different and look far better. I do think paying $90 + monlthy (15) to start from scratch wont be as attactive but people can pay $40 to get the Battle chest save $10 and try the game out. It is still worth playing the old content and if they get sick of that then they won't buy wrath. Every expansion it seems the graphics are upgraded things are bigger and fights are more epic. Money spent on WoW is money saved from doing something else for the month :)

The question was "do you think the Dalaran ring is worth buying?" not "Do you think WotLK is worth it" or "QQ about life in general".
It sounds like you're especially bitter about WoW because you're bored with it. It's no big deal, move on to some other entertainment, why get your undies in a bundle over it (& why read WoWinsider, for that matter)?
Bullethead Nov 19th 2008 1:39PM
I didn't QQ about anything. I just said that WotLK wasn't worth the RL money, therefore I must think the 8kg for the ring isn't worth it by default. I don't have my undies in a bunch it sounds like you are the ones with their undies in a bunch. Why can't someone just make an observation without it turning it a big flame fest? It's a game folks, let's get a little perspective and not take it too seriously. Oh, and I'm not bitter. I'm just not interested in the expansion. This site has become wrathinsider and has all but abandoned the "classic" WoW at this point. It might be nice for newcomers and those of us who aren't buying it to have some content about the stuff we're playing. That's why I keep reading. I'm hoping something relative to the part of the game I'm playing will be posted.

You can deny it all you want, justify it all you want, explain it all you want... but your comments are purely and simply QQ and totally irrelevant to the article.
Sure, you have a right to comment on it as you see fit, and you chose to go off-topic. That's fine. But don't turn around and be complain when others also excerise that right by remarking on your comments. That's pure hypocrisy.

its absolutely worth it. Gold is not very hard to come by, and yes, the SMV neck is damn useful, I use it whenever my hearths down to get to an AH if I want something on the spot (which I often do with the way the Gem markets heading). It's just a little more than an epic flyer, which was definitely worth it. The transportation plus a good ring for some amount of time is something we cannot pass up. I am even contemplating getting two so I have one for my healing set when dual specs come in and I can resto my druid for arena. An absolute must buy

I would probably get as much use out of this as I do out of my Ps3, when I have wow and a 360.
I will not be buying it.

No wai for me. After they let us send mail instant between our own chars, the use for another HS for me has dropped quite alot.
For travelling around, those times I'm in a hurry i will HS to Dalaran and portal where i want from there. If im not in any hurry i just use the FP and portal and save the CD until im going "home" again. Might have lost a couple of minutes, but 230 days of gametime have shown me that a couple of mins here and there really dont matter in the long run.
Not paying 8k for a random epic until i have seen the loot tables for the raids, sincerely doubt i will ever have the need for it.
There is other things that feels more important to me then a vendor ring, not matter the color and epeen/lvl of it :-)
