Breakfast Topic: Is the ring worth it?
The spiffy Dalaran rings:Band of the Kirin TorAre they worth it?
Signet of the Kirin Tor
When I hit 80 it was the first thing I picked up. The powerful ability to teleport myself to a major city is, in my opinion, invaluable as I conquer the end game of Wrath of the Lich King. But after I right clicked to buy the 8,000g ring, I paused.
I felt a small twinge on the back of my head.
Was that the tingling of buyer's remorse? Did I just buy the Sega Dreamcast of rings?
Will my ring fade away to soon be vendored? No ring to control them all, and no ring to in the darkness bind them?
My hope is that it won't be. I'm keeping the ring in my bag, along with the necklace from Illidan's quest chain that I've had for the past 10 months. A port to Shadowmoon Valley will still be useful if I have to get to a capital city quickly. And then with the hearth stone set to where I want it, I have a total of three quick and easy portable locations for my lazy Warrior butt.
You voiced your opinions last week on the multi-person mammoth mount, so tell me – what do you think of this? Is a Dalaran ring worth the money?

They should make it an heirloom. Then I'd buy it but as a mage in a raid guild, I can't see wasting 8k on it.

so the rings are unique , right so a hybrid class (shamans, paladins, druids) can equip both of them and if so, do they share the same cooldown?

Mage+Inscription (Recall Scroll III)+Hearthstone= me spending my money on other important things...
...like motorcycles.

This is on my list of things to buy, but its not the top one. I personally don't mind having my hearth set to Dalaran and flying out from there to where ever I need to go. Dalaran is pretty much centrally located, so its not like I'm going to need to go quest on the very far side of the world from the city.
In fact, the 2 higher end zones are within spitting distance of the city, much unlike TBC (such a pain to traverse between SMV and Netherstorm)
Final answer - I'll buy it, but not until I squander my gold on my real tanking gear.

One ring to *rule* them all, not "control" them all...geesh. And you have the gall to call yourselves nerds.

When I heard about this ring, i was really excited about its prospects. But at 8000 gold, no way. The stats on it are promising, but by the time I hit 80 I hope to be either pvping my brains out or doing high-end raiding. I'd certainly consider buying this for 2000 gold but definitely not 8000. The port just isn't worth it to me and I don't mind flying too much -- it gives me a chance to loot herbs. I'll spend my money on something else that offers more value or more "wow" factor.

I'd want the ring, but I wouldn't be able to afford it. With so many alts, I never have any money for something I would consider as fluff. Pretty fluffy, useful, but still fluff.

I'm still waiting for Blizz to let us get these 'use' items out of our inventories (BRD Remote, Mara Scepter, BT Tele, Dalaran Ring, Ruby Slippers), and into it's own tab on our Character Sheet. I see some of those items should be usable without equipping them too.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you still have to equip Finkle's Skinner to get the benefit (should be passive in your inventory and treated like a Skinning Knife)...

I'd say it's definitely worth it, at least if you're not a mage, or have immediate access to a mage.

You guys are forgetting the most important reason of all: http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=2084

Yep. 10 useless achievement points.

Dalaran is right in the middle of Northrend. Once all the quests are done, there's no real reason to set your hearthstone anywhere else. When the dual-spec thing is put in, there will literally be no reason to go back to Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor besides CoT: Strathholme. I'm an engineer who can travel to Blade's Edge or Tanaris at will, and other folks can just take the portal from Dalaran to Shattrath, and then talk to the lady in World's End Tavern.
The dps ring is also horribly itemized for a protection warrior, even in a dps role. No thanks.
Carrie Nov 19th 2008 11:15AM
There is a portal to CoT directly from Dalaran, it's just in a different building than all the other portals.
Randy Nov 19th 2008 10:38AM
My warrior might think it useful as my mage says:
"Ring? We don't need no stinkin ring!"
AlexW573 Nov 19th 2008 10:38AM
Yes. It's like buying my Hearthstone back, since if I don't get this ring my hearth will always be Dalaran.
Glazwald Nov 19th 2008 10:55AM
I wouldn't get it if it was 800g. Just don't need it.
Osi Nov 19th 2008 11:06AM
well look at it this way. IF you are a DK, and a Scribe, you have 4 hearthstones. 1 regular hearthstone, 1 "death gate" to Ebon Hold, 1 "hearthstone" to Dalaran, and "recall" scrolls for the city you crafted it for ...
dawnseven Nov 19th 2008 12:53PM
You don't actually craft recall scrolls for a city. They take you to your hearthstone city, wherever that is. If my hearth is set for Org and I make recall scrolls there, and then change my hearth to TB, the tooltip on the scroll says it will take me to TB.
