The Queue: Daily quests and Tastyfish

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft.
It's been a few days, you know how this goes by now. You ask your questions in the comments section below, I answer them in the near future. Got it? Good.
jared.daniels asked...
I just got to level 72 last night and realized that I have five different dailies that I can do in Northrend. Should I bother doing all of those every day, or just focus on the last one that I uncovered? And if I do go back, how long should I do them before I drop them for higher-level dailies?
That's wholly up to you, depending on what your play style is at 80. If you have a particular faction you want to get Exalted with, you may want to do some of those dailies every day. If you like PvP, you might want to try out the ones on the river in Grizzly Hills. Personally, the only dailies I repeat every day are the Kalu'ak ones so I can get the fishing pole more quickly, and the ones that happen to be in the zone I'm questing in already.
For example, I'm level 79 and I'm questing in Icecrown. There are a bunch of dailies there, and I'll stop and do some of them because they're good XP and my other quests are right next to them. I don't go back to the Grizzly Hills (again, example) and do the PvP ones though, because they're kind of out of my way and I don't really like to PvP.
So it pays off to do certain dailies every day if they help you further your current goal. I wouldn't spend a massive amount of your play time each day running around Northrend completing every daily you can before level 80 just for the sake of doing dailies. It's not terribly efficient. Or fun, for that matter. Get through to the good stuff, don't worry about dailies too much. Go ahead and do them once the first time around just to see the quest, but don't necessarily do it every day.
Carang of Kargath asked...
My question is about the STV fishing contest. If someone turns in the 40 fish to win, can you still fish for the rare fish to turn in?
Yep! The fishing contest has a set start time, and a set end time. You'll always be able to fish up Tastyfish and the rare fishes within that time frame. The first person with 40 Tastyfish wins the main prize, but everyone can keep turning in the rares for the special stuff after that, right up until the Tastyfish schools go away.
Tiis asked...
How many guilds have already beaten Naxx on 10 and 25?
I don't have solid numbers for either of those things because I'm not Blizzard, but I know that on my server Naxx-10 was cleared two days ago in a few hours by a mish-mash of people, whatever level 80s the raid leader could find and knew personally. We don't have enough people to hit Naxx-25 yet. Again, that's on my server.
I do know Naxx-25 is being cleared on other servers, and it only takes 25 people who are level 80 and can figure out how to not get slimed by Heigan, and let's be honest, if you can't dodge Heigan's slime you need to practice how to use your run key.
Just because Nihilum and SK were the first group to clear Naxxramas doesn't mean it takes Nihilum and SK to clear it. It just means they were the first group with enough organized 80s to do it. Utterly trivial.

The lag in Dalaran is bad, no horrible. It often leads to me being disconnected, it has a carryover effect after I leave Dalaran, and basically makes me very reluctant to go to that great city. Anywhere else in Northrend (that I've visited, at least) is fine. I've never had such problems when Shattrath was the place to be, it's just Dalaran. I expect it to get worse as more and more folks gain access to the city.
Why is it so bad in Dalaran and no where else? And, more importantly, is there anything I can do to help ease the strain? I'm already running MS Media Player, which helps boost my FPS for some reason.
Omestes Nov 19th 2008 1:33PM
Shatt used to do that to me, though it died down a bit as people got bored.

I've never had lag in Dalaran (amazingly, since Shattrath was always horrible.. I think dividing the city between Horde and Alliance helps a lot). Maybe your video card sucks?
actodd Nov 19th 2008 3:40PM
I doubt its my card, my old one fried 2 months ago and I put a new one in. I don't remember the specs, but it greatly improved my performance in OL. And everything works fine in HF, BT and DB.
But what is it about Dalaran (or Shattrath before it was abandoned) that causes lag issues in the first place?
Allison Nov 19th 2008 4:10PM
I heard that it may be the high number of NPCs that are in Shattrah and Dalaran. I'm not sure how this compares to the number in other cities or how true it really is, but when complaining about it myself, that's what I was told.

I bought a good deal more RAM as i was running Vista and needed more then the basic requirements.
Running with 3GB now and i seem to be doing fine in any major city.
GrayElf Nov 19th 2008 7:19PM
I think you'll find that's primarily a computer specs issue - and for more than just your graphics card. Memory, memory speed, hard drive speed, graphics card memory/speed...every single character within your view range has to be identified, if they're a PC all their GEAR identified, details (mainly visual, depending on mods) grabbed from hard drive, and loaded into RAM or maybe graphics card memory...
Think of all the gear slots that are displayed for every PC, and it scales up fast. Try reducing your viewing range (under Video, can never remember exactly which setting - there's 2-3 that sound similar, just mouse-over them to check which ones are the range to see terrain, and objects/people).
When you're out and about, there's not much more involved than your graphics card (yes, I'm over-simplifying - but for any decent system, that's mostly true). In a very crowded area, many other aspects of your computers performance steps in, and ANY bottleneck can slow things to a crawl.

Ascent (biggest guild, and on Horde) on Thrall cleared Naxx10 last night, saw the realm first announcement. I'm on alliance so I don't know if they were all 80, but I'm pretty sure they were (Ascent cleaned up most of the realm first 80's for most classes/Horde races on Thrall).

I've been running the one PVP daily outside Amberpine Lodge in Grizzly to pick up some Venture Coins. The mana return trinket is pretty cool for 70 coins. And the cooking daily in Dalaran is one of the very few ways to gain Kirin Tor rep after Dragonblight and before 80, so I've made sure to do that every day, as well.
I'll probably start running the Kalu'ak dailies every day once I hit 77. What doesn't a flying mount make easier?
I hope they add fishing and gathering dailies. Those were a great add in Outland. A first aid daily would be cool, too. Remember the Triage quest to get 225? Something like that.

The thing with those guilds is that they practiced too much during the Beta. Perhaps the best thing in the future is to NEVER let anyone into the Beta and just throw everyone into the same buggy mess they released too early and find out about stuff from there on out.
/sarcasm
Jack Spicer Nov 19th 2008 1:48PM
Or just don't invite that guild.
GrayElf Nov 19th 2008 7:23PM
*Ahem* Did you read the OP?
"I know that on my server Naxx-10 was cleared two days ago in a few hours by a mish-mash of people, whatever level 80s the raid leader could find and knew personally."
Try reading before you jump to conclusions...
elly Nov 19th 2008 1:22PM
are there any more ways, other than the three daily quests, to gain rep with the Kalu'ak?
and is there a list of Northrend dailies anywhere?
Dracula Jones Nov 19th 2008 1:27PM
Once you're done with Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight, the only way to rep up with Kalu'ak is the dailies, I believe. Luckily, by that point you should be Revered, and the dailies gives somewhere around 1200-1300 total rep combined, it should be relatively quick to get to Exalted.
elly Nov 19th 2008 1:29PM
yeah, that's what i feared. i finished all of the Kala'uk quests as listed in the faction section of WoWwiki.
sadface! 10 days 'til penguin pet!
Ttya Nov 19th 2008 1:21PM
is it worth doing the IQD dailies on the way to lvl 80 if you really really want a mammoth?
Dracula Jones Nov 19th 2008 1:32PM
Probably not. You'd get more gold doing regular Northrend quests, plus all the random vendor trash, and unusable quest rewards you can sell. And if you have any gathering professions, it's BIG money out there right now. Cobalt Ore is so plentiful that I have no doubt it will settle in at ~15g per 20 stack in the future, but right now I'm selling it 5 for 40g easily, and that's the low price on the AH.
Ryan Nov 19th 2008 1:26PM
Is their a specailization for the Northrend cloths similar to the ones from Outland?
Smurk Nov 19th 2008 1:43PM
I haven't had time to level past 71, but each day I am logging on just to do the sea cow mating quest (...) so that I'm that little bit closer to the fishing pole reward. It took me a long time to level fishing to 375 but I enjoyed the BC dailies so much that now I'm pushing hard for 450. I don't like feeling that there's anywhere in the world (of Warcraft) that I CAN'T fish.
