Around Azeroth: Down the hatch
[1.General - The Island] [Locke]: WTF, why's there a giant hatch in the middle of nowhere?
To [Locke]: Dude don't go there, I heard it's like full of elites.
[Locke] whispers: I've got a party, we should be cool. You want in?
To [Locke]: I'm telling you it's a bad idea. It's got the numbers on its side! 4 13375? 4 13375? This is not a good thing. The last time we saw those numbers we got chased halfway across Un'Goro by that damn polar bear! I think something kited it down there!
[Locke] whispers: Look, Jack's agreed to actually heal for once. We can't wait much longer. Are you coming or not, Hurley?
To [Locke]: If the rest of the guild is in, I'll go, but if the tank dies I'm running out.
[Locke] whispers: K. Bring a Seaforium Charge, none of us has the key.
Thanks to Smokeu of <Undead and Fabulous> on Crushridge for this pop-culturelicious screenshot, and to my LOST-watching boyfriend Jon (aka Grottu of Moon Guard) for helping me with the details.

Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, "mounted mounts", or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.Filed under: Around Azeroth

In beta, when you were hovering over it, you could actually see the "real" numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42) in the tooltip. This was pretty unusual, because while there are tons and tons of cultural references in WoW, they were never that direct like this one. On the live servers, the numbers have been changed to "5 9 16 17 24 43" still making it a pretty obvious reference to LOST, but without copying the element from the show 1:1. Another possible explanation would be that ABC has a trademark on the numbers (which wouldn't be surprising really).

You can't trademark numbers. Intel tried that with the x86 processor line, which is why the 586 and beyond started the pentium brand.

Nice captions :p
As for the numbers, I am pretty sure they are from a real string of numbers a bunch of para-science types came up with to calculate the time based on certain values till the end of humanity. Aka woowoo fun :p

I'm kinda disappointed to see this posted on WoWInsider: I discovered the Hatch by accident during the beta, and it was a "HAHA!" moment that I hate to see spoiled for everyone else.
As for where it is, Professor Halliwax left strict instructions that that information *must* be kept secret, for the safety of everyone in Northrend. The consequences should its location be revealed to the Hostiles are too dangerous to risk.

This one is totally lost on me.

I would actualy like an quest hub whole refering to lost... Abc would like that comercial i bet... maybe they haven't paid enough so blizz changed the numbers, or in other way...nobody cares...
I just would like "What is Haunting Sholazar Basin" with you making sound in jungle to call smokey, once you do it you have to run away and live enough, come back to "Lohn Jocke" when you are finished...
And than other one "One Bullet is not enough?"... Find Polar Bear in the jungle and kill him. Take this one bullet i can give you no more... And then that bullet takes him like 10%hp and "noes" moment comes...you kill him and hand in quest...
And than another "Catch is in Hatch" where you have to loot enough dimanite from local humanoids and in next chain quest blow up the Hatch... Where you get another Npc with quest for you... "Danger before the eyes" where you have to warn few npcs in certain time cause there is danger coming for them...
et cetera... I would rly like that

I love it! I love Lost and can't wait to see the in-game reference. Thanks for the heads up!

This would be cool if I didn't hate Lost because it's the most stupidly confusing show on TV, maybe in the history of television!
It's like every mystery they solve only spawns more mysteries. It's a vicious cycle, one I can only see ending if one of the characters wakes up in his/her bed and says "Oh, thank god, it was all just a horrible dream." And then he/she would go to a shrink about and be put in a mental institution for even dreaming about something so convoluted and crazy.

It will not be ending that way. The creators have already said that it will have a "realistic" ending (how they can pull that off I don't know lol!), and they specifically mentioned that it won't be a "Oh good, it's only a dream" type thing.
Personally Lost is my favorite show on TV. I like a good mystery, and I think they've done a superb job with it.
