Wrath 101: How to get to Dalaran
Mages can teleport there at level 71, and give portals there at 74. So that's one option. Similarly, you can get a Warlock to summon you, if they can find players around to help. Players also get quests to go there legitimately and get attuned to use the crystal that teleports you up and down at level 74, but who wants to wait that long?
Enter the Battleground summon. This is how I and almost everyone I know got to Dalaran the first time, and it goes like this:
- Find someone in Dalaran ("/who Dalaran" is helpful for this) and ask politely if they are willing to group with you and queue the group for a battleground.
- When you get into the battleground, /afk out (or play it through).
- Poof! You're in Dalaran.
This works at any level, for any character (although you do need to ensure the person queueing you is in the same battleground level bracket as you; thanks to Faeries Wear Boots for pointing this out). Once there you can set your hearthstone at any of several inns for quick return, and there is a flight point at Krasus' Landing - if you grab a flight point or two in Dragonblight for connections (Mo'aki Harbor being the easiest), you should then be able to fly to Dalaran from most flight points in Northrend.
Arthas awaits and so do your questions. Find the answers you've been looking for that will help you with your journey into Northrend and to level 80 with Wrath 101.Filed under: Tips, Wrath of the Lich King

Well, saying it works for all levels isn't entirely true. The person signing up for the BG needs to be in the same bracket as the group members for the group members to get signed up also.

Good point; edited.

First off you're wrong. As proof I personally have entered a BG as a group as 70 with people at 71, and as low as 31. I was in Dalaran the Second day Wrath was out, and began selling BG ports to Dalaran for as High as 100g (Made about 3000g altogether) so i know you can enter someone who is a different in a BG and they will be entered into a BG. Just not the same BG you can enter.

Oh fer chrissakes, how many times do we have to go through this socialist BS in regards to WoW? There's nothing wrong with someone offering a service for a price. If people weren't willing to pay it, then that would be the end of it. Obviously those who chose to spend the 100g had lots to spare and considered it worthwhile. Don't want to pay it? Fine. Wait until later or find someone offering it for free. Or if it really offends you so much, then once you get there make it a point to offer lots of free ports.

Why hasn't this been re-edited to correct your correction? You were quick enough to edit in wrong information, why not fix it?
The first post is wrong. Being in the same BG level queue is not required.
Invisible Elf Nov 21st 2008 11:09AM
You should have included which quest you need to do to be able to teleport there

The flight point at Mo'aki harbor connects to the Dalaran flight point, and Mo'aki harbor is reachable by Tuskarr boat from Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra. So with the boats plus the battleground trick, you can fly from Borean to Dalaran to Howling before you do any exploration in Dragonblight.

They should just remove the requirement with all these tricks around it...pointless.
I went and grabbed the FP at Wyrmrest and Agram's Hammer or whatever to connect it to my starting zone of BT.

I agree, it would have been just as well to allow people to run straight to Dalaran and port up, or to include a summoning stone with a 70-80 range inside the city.
Though it is nice that Dalaran is kept relatively quiet without too many lower-level players. Not to sound elitist... it's just pleasant to get around without having to deal with blocked NPCs and lag.
Hank Nov 21st 2008 11:20AM
You don't have to AFK out of the BG, you could actually participate in it, you know, rather than screw over your faction.
Nick S Nov 21st 2008 11:30AM
When I used this trick I had the exact same thought; I hate playing short-sided. But, once I got into AV, I realized that every other person was doing the same thing I was; there was no team to play with. The chat log just spammed joined/left continuously.
Pirate elf Nov 21st 2008 11:43AM
But if you /afk (rather than wait for the system to recognise you as inactive, which seems very ineffective) someone queuing is let in pretty much instantly, right?
here is a thought Nov 21st 2008 11:21AM
correct me if i am wrong, but step 2 works just as well if you actually decide to play out the BG instead of pulling the afk and possibly wrecking the match for those that want to play.
I think one BG match is a fair price to pay for the end result here.
Gnosh Nov 21st 2008 11:42AM
Meh, if you leave a BG, your spot is taken fairly quickly (depending on how many people are queueing). I've personally seen "left... joined" two seconds apart.
AlexW573 Nov 21st 2008 11:21AM
Ehh... I've always felt this way to get to Dalaran is very close to outright cheating. It's an exploit, don't use it.
For those interested, here are the ways to Dalaran not through exploitation:
Get to level 74 and do a quest series that starts in an inn in Amberpine Lodge, Grizzly Hills (at least for Alliance, I don't know about Horde). The quest takes two seconds, you just need to talk to the NPC again that you got the quest from.
Find a level 74+ Mage who is willing to port you to Dalaran.
Find a Warlock in Dalaran willing to summon you.

>.> Oops sorry missed the parts of this post with these explanations some how, please -1 my above post.
Riley Nov 21st 2008 6:48PM
it's not an exploit, it's just taking advantage of a feature that blizzard programmed into the game in a different way
Osi Nov 21st 2008 7:58PM
Well, to bring you back to reality. It is not an exploit.
