Break the Blockade by grouping

Honestly, I feel pretty safe in saying that this isn't one of the most well-designed quests. It's a basic bombing quest, except they seem to have forgotten all the lessons they might have learned from previous bombing quests in Ogri'la and Quel'danas.
First, Instead of a personal flying mount, you have to bomb the ships from a zeppelin that makes its rounds every few minutes, so you have to wait for it dock before beginning the quest. Secondly, the pirates and ships you have to bomb are scattered very far apart, often hidden by icebergs until the last moment, and don't seem to respawn very fast. All of this adds up to making the quest somewhat of an exercise in frustration solo.
However, there is hope.
This is a quest where you want to try to convince a friend or the random stranger who wants to do the daily at the same time as you to group up. Once you do, you can post people at different sides of the boat, ready to toss their bombs. Everyone will get credit, you can cover more ground and bomb more pirates, and you should be able to make the quest with one pass, something that feels nigh impossible if you're soloing it.
The quest itself gives Valiance Expedition reputation as a reward, which feeds into Alliance Expedition reputation. It's probably a quest you can technically skip, but if you're a rep junkie, this is probably one of the best ways to get the rep, as long as you look for another rep junkie to help you get through the ordeal.

Agreed. If you see someone on the Zepplin, just invite em.
1st!

Yeah. I did the quest after waiting 5 mins for the boat to arrive; there was one other person on the boat. She refused to group stating she enjoys the long ride in the morning. Needless to say, I missed the completion by one mob and had to ride it out another 5 mins. Useless.

It's actually Explorer League rep isn't it?
conker87 Nov 23rd 2008 8:25PM
Has anyone noticed that you flag PvP when standing on the dock?

My husband and I were doign this quest and about halfway through the quest we realized how stupid it was not to group up with the other people on the boat (as luck would have it there were 5 of us in all, so no one was left out.) grouped up we finished this quest easily.

any quest that is a kill quest or shared objectives, (pretty much anything other than quest drops you need to collect for mobs) I always toss an invite to anyone that is in the area obviously doing the same quest. Helps both of us.

"..something that feels nigh impossible if you're soloing it"
If you can't complete this quest in one pass solo, you're a horrible player, period.
But you're right, if there's someone else in the zeppelin, you have to group up, if you don't, you're pretty much guaranteed to both need a second pass.

We're very sorry that your [REDACTED] is so small, The Claw. We hope that eventually you'll get over your need to compensate by belittling others.

Does have a point though. If you're the only person on the zeppelin, you finish the quest with an entire ship to spare. There's no shortage of targets for a single person.

I'm very sorry that you're so bad at video games, Chris. I asked around the WoW players I work with, and every single one successfully completed that bombing run in one pass, solo, the first time they attempted it. To see people saying that they believe it is impossible boggles the mind.
We're not talking about killing M'uru or getting a 2200 arena rating here. We're talking about a daily quest which is tuned to be extremely easy unless you have other players competing with you for targets.

I think we read "solo" differently. I was assuming that Daniel meant that he was trying to do the quest without grouping with other people who were on the boat (and it was, in fairness, the general state of affairs for the first week of the expansion that there were other people on the boat). You're reading it as "nobody else around, just me, a zeppelin, and some bombs". In the first case, it is quite difficult to get the requisite kills and cannon destructions in. In the second, I can still see how someone might have trouble with the camera maneuvering needed to get the bombing done in one pass.
However, that doesn't excuse your "horrible at video games" comment. I can understand that you want to be the alpha geek, and I can even understand why. But that doesn't make it socially-acceptable behavior.

So, let me get this straight: If you have to group with competition on the boat you suck because it's perfectly doable when there's no competition on the boat? Makes sense.

I haven't finished this quest solo in one tour of the bay; it's just not possible I think.
Another problem is how easy it is to fall off the boat while you are attempting to get a good view. I've seen people fall of plenty of times so far and it's a long swim and ride back to Westguard.
kyosei Nov 23rd 2008 10:29PM
It is possible to solo it in one trip, but it has to be done while you're alone on the zeppelin and you have done the quest a few times before already to know when and where the pirates show up. I did it on my druid with one pirate ship to spare.

Early in the morning it can be soloed easily - just staying on one side of the boat (I prefer the left, not sure how right side goes). Easier with the entire boat working together of course, but having it to yourself works fine.

Not as bad as it was in beta. If you were a Mac user, for some forsaken reason, if you boarded the blimp, it would auto-DC you and then ping you out when ever you tried ot log back on, except if it was at the Dock. I got incredibly lucky when I did it, and managed to log on on when thing was in port, jump off the bottom of it, and not die, and remarkably, get the "Going Down?" Achivement. Odd.
Ahh Beta.

It's quite easy to do it in one go, a little more tricky if you are competing with someone.
Just hotkey your bomb and stay on the tip of the zep. Be sure to hit both cannons and crew...
Best way is to group though..
Celton Nov 24th 2008 9:11AM
I completed it solo every time except the first time I did it. It's not really that difficult.
Shaun Nov 23rd 2008 9:00PM
I solo'd this quest in one run my first try. If there's more than 5 people on the boat, go do something else, because one of the groups will steal all the cannons.
Tip: Stand at the front of the boat and face backwards, towards the center of the boat. Then pan your camera around to a good angle. You can drop bombs in any direction, forward or back. Whereas if you're facing forward and try to throw one down slightly behind your Zepp, it's a no go. I have seen nobody but me do this trick. Enjoy.

Sucks when you're the 6th person on the boat. Then it's you versus 5 people. Worst part is the 6th person can easily get just enough of the pirates/cannons so that the big group doesn't finish.
So everyone has to ride again!
