Changes to AoE in patch 3.0.4
Ghostcrawler let us all know today of a few changes for classes that are being left out of the "AoE fun." He's only talking in relatively broad terms right now, and will give specifics later when things are more locked down. Some of the changes include:
- Shaman: Removing threat from the Fire Nova Totem and Magma Totem, and increasing the damage done by the Magma Totem.
- Rogue: Fan of Knives cooldown removed. Daggers more useful for Fan of Knives.
- Druid: Swipe will now be a baseline ability.

And by swipe, they mean a new cat version, not the Bear form, which was always baseline.
Aubrecia Nov 24th 2008 8:25PM
Ah, thanks for that clarification -- I was going "baseline as opposed to what, exactly?"

A straight buff for Shaman? Woot!
Cremean Nov 24th 2008 8:39PM
Yeah....give it like, a week. There will be nerfs to counteract it.
Jeff Nov 24th 2008 10:02PM
To hell with the impending nerfs. I'm going to enjoy this while it lasts!

How can anyone consider this a buff to shaman AE?
Enhance was using it already, but enhance wasn't the spec that needed AE, Elemental was.
So the spec that needs it the most has to take a bunch of talents that negate the 41pt talent for it to be useful and drop a totem in melee range that negates that 41pt talent completely.
How is this a buff?
GC asked us in a thread, "3 options, which is best, totem, new skill, or chain lightning?"
The numbers were pretty much 5%, 75%, 20% in that order. So what do they do? They go with the 5% that were morons.
Naix Nov 25th 2008 12:23PM
Like the most OP class in the game needed buffs.

Kitty Swipe FTW =D
Maever Nov 24th 2008 8:29PM
Wow, i'm satisfied with the fire nova/magma totem buffs. I can finally do some real AoE grinding.
Sit back, relax, throw a couple of CLs, let earthshield and magma totem do the work

a buff for rogues, WAAAAAAATTTTTT? SO UNHEARD OF! :P
draeth Nov 24th 2008 10:32PM
rofl!
how do rogues get away with the constant buffs?
insomnifox Nov 24th 2008 11:46PM
It's not much of a buff.
The ability costs 50 energy. Rogues max out at 130 energy through gear, talents, and glyphs. At best we get two of those off, wait a few seconds then get another (not generally a good use of energy by the way) and we're spent. At worst, we get two off and we're spent until we build up more energy. Imagine if mage's various AoE's cost half their mana for one cast.
Removing the 10 second cool down just made it reliant on the rogue's energy regeneration which might be faster or slower than ten seconds depending on spec and RNG.
Baul Nov 25th 2008 1:03AM
lol... you just phrased that as though a rogue spending 50% of his energy is equivalent to a mage spending 50% of his mana...........
Gnosh Nov 25th 2008 8:14AM
More like "Imagine if mage AOE had a cooldown"
You have no concept of dealing with mana, do you
MooNinja Nov 24th 2008 8:36PM
Wow disappointing. I hope this isn't the amazing AE ability that shaman will get. Totems are never the solution. I love having to stomp a fire totem for AE, especially as elemental, I mean fire is never used for elemental shaman anyhow ....
Badger Nov 24th 2008 8:42PM
"Totems are never the solution."
Sure they are. Just wait for the Free Beer Totem to arrive with Patch v3.0.5.
MooNinja Nov 24th 2008 8:45PM
They already nerfed it. They felt that it impinged on the uniqueness of other aspects of wow, and so we get the Totem of Eternal Suck instead.
Painted Nov 25th 2008 2:46PM
Yeah it'll get nerfed- From the Free Beer Totem to the Free Beer (Watery Beer) Totem then finally to the Free Beer (Coors Light) Totem... /sigh
ShadzKing Nov 24th 2008 8:44PM
No love for locks huh D:
Make an Affliction AoE!

Ummm SoC ?? One of the best AEs in the game, if not THE best.
