Lorewise it was the ELVES who abandoned the alliance after the humans refused to genocide all the captured orcs. The elves broke away leading to turmoil in the alliance.

Had the elves not abandoned the humans for their arrogance, the alliance would have been stronger, would have supported the elves and vice versa, and arthas would never have been able to raze your gay pretty kingdom.

suck on that elf-ears :)
