Varian's been getting a lot of heat for trying to take on Thrall and Sylvanas in the Battle of Undercity and that pisses people off since well Thrall anyways is still the "good guy" hero of the Horde and the savior that brought "peace" between the Horde and the Alliance. But let's look at what he is facing against. The Horde to me is kind of like a middle east country. The government I'm sure doesn't support things like terrorism but things like terrorism occurs all the time. Just like the middle east counties, there could be some extremists factions who do unethical things that the government doesn't know about and there are some extremists factions with in the Horde that do unethical things that Thrall doesn't know about. I mean, there are instances of slavery, experimentation, torture, mass murder on members of the Alliance; all of which the extremist Horde gets away with it. The RAS, the Grimtotem tribe, the Warsong Offensive are all part of the Horde that have done unspeakable crimes and two of which are still active. All I know is that Varian is the type of leader who would dismiss the bureaucracy of everything and run charging into Ogrimmar to rescue an enslaved Alliance member if he was enslaved and forced into gladiator matches like he was. He might not be the leader that everyone wants but I think lorewise he is the leader that the Alliance needs.
