BigRedKitty: Heart of the Phoenix and Lick Your Wounds
Daniel Howell contributes BigRedKitty, a column with strategies, tips and tricks for and about the Hunter class, sprinkled with a healthy dose of completely improper, sometimes libelous, personal commentary.
/oh behave!
Ferocity pets are built for DPS, but they have two of the most powerful pet-healing spells we have: Heart of the Phoenix and Lick Your Wounds. Two big problems with our pets right now is that we have way too many pet-spells to try to cram on our pet's tiny action bar, and some of these autocasting spells will either autocast when we don't want them to, or just fail all together. To solve these issues, we can make macros to control everything. This movie will show you how to make these macros, as well as let you see these two specific pet-spells in action.
You are invited to download the YouTube version (27MB) of this movie here, and the full-sized version (42MB) here.
As always, a great big Thank You to the WoW Insider editors for allowing us to publish this movie both here and on our little blog at the same time!

Has anyone noticed that Brk has been acting rather...cocky since he got his Spirit Beast?
Zor Nov 27th 2008 3:59PM
one man's cock (y)
is another mans rooster
age old debate....confidence / arrogance
easy distinction - the confident man appreciates when properly corrected and is eager to learn new things
the targets following rebuttals are usually the telling signs
GO BRK !
nice work - love it

Zor, you sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. BRK outstanding work.

Hi BRK
A nice, basic movie. Doing macros for pet spells ought to be absolute 101 for hunters mplaying WoW, but it is important that these things get covered so huntards especially can get better.
Cheers!

so the macro would look like this?
/cast heart of the phoenix
and
/cast lick your wounds
?
Olicon Nov 27th 2008 10:36PM
Talk about getting the pet's ass kicked. Those things actually did kick the kitty in the rear end. Good stuff.

I was watching this and my wife said that BRK sounds like the Sting Ray teacher from Finding Nemo.

My hunter is only 37 but how about this macro:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=pet, dead] Heart of the Phoenix, Lick Your Wounds
Or does your pet not exist any more if it dies? Then you could replace the conditions with [nopet].

I don't understand why you need a macro for these two spells.
From my experiments I have found that all spells that are NOT IN YOUR PET'S CAST BAR are set to automatic casting each time you logout/login or summon your pet. Read that again to make sure you've understood what I wrote, otherwise the next bit doesn't make sense :)
So I have left all spells OUT of my pet cast bar that I DO want to automatically cast - Growl, Bite, Lava Breath, whatever.
Spells that I want PERMANENTLY OFF, or that I want to trigger manually I DO put in my pet's spell bar, namely: Heart of the Phoenix, Lick Your Wounds, Cower, Growl.
My reasoning for these 4 is:
HotP + LYW - so I can cast them when I need them.
Growl - So I can have it on automatic (soloing) or off (grouped)
Cower - So I can permanently keep auto-cast off. (Remember it auto turns back on if it is not in the pet cast bar.)
This works great for me and means I don't use any of my own valuable slots for an unnecessary macro.

What about pet bar priority. What you suggest is sensible wrt auto cast etc, but remember that the pet bar spells are cast in an order of priority thus affecting your overall dps (esp. as BM).
Macros seem to be the only way around this atm :

Stinky chickenhawk lovin dwarf.

Ok, I have a question slightly non-hunter related, what mods our Big Red Kitty host use, I think I can see XPerl and Titan Bars, but what else is there?
Justin Nov 30th 2008 2:46AM
ummm why is your kittty moonfiring?
squiretoad Jan 10th 2009 8:57PM
That video's verra nice .. except the guy is talking 150 WPM, and the video is totally fuzzy so you can't see squat, much less the teensy tinsy little letters he's typing. So you don't know what to type into YOUR macro.
How about a text solution, eh? Something cut-and-paste capable? Because videos are useless for this.
